http://dvd.ign.com/articles/634/634262p1.html Comic-Con 2005: IGN DVD Exclusive - Futurama Direct-to-Video Greenlit
Bender, Fry & Co. set to return.
July 15, 2005 - In the first of IGN's exclusive Video Blogs direct from San Diego's Comic-Con International, voice actor Billy West (Fry, Zoidberg, the Professor, and many more voices for many more shows) revealed to us that a brand-new direct-to-video Futurama movie has been greenlit. Not only that, but there is also an option for a second movie as well.
With the model established by Family Guy's return – where a direct-to-video movie eventually spawned the show's return to Fox primetime as well – could the much-missed Futurama also be on the way back to a set near you?
That is some of the best news I've heard in a while. I loved that show.
I'm just sad that Johnny Carson didn't live long enough to see this.

This is great news. Futurama is one of my all time favorites (as some of you seem to already know ). Well, I'm off to search for treads about Clerks 2 and Star wars in 3-D so I don't have half the board yelling at me for starting new ones...
I'm just sad that Peter Jennings didn't live long enough to see this.

I'll go as soon as I find the Clerks one. And how do you expect me to keep doing flips if i'm stuffing my face with donuts?
I don't think there is a clerks 2 thread.

I'm sorry but the correct response is: "Mmmmm. . .donut." Thank you for playing our game and please try again.

And yet I somehow found one. Behold my mighty power!
yeah, and I posted in that thread.
I'll go stand in the corner now.
Aint It Cool News is reporting that Futurama is returning to television:
Billy West says Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's FUTURAMA will be returning to television in the form of 26 new episodes.
If memory serves, recently announce plans called for the production of 4 straight-to-DVD, feature length installments. Not sure where those plans went, or why the gravitation back to TV is happening instead, but I'll eagerly embrace, fondle, and moistly caress any FUTURAMA I can get.
Wonder where these episodes will be shown? Hopefully on Cartoon Network...where they stand a chance of being aired regualrly and actually seen by viewers. Of course, failing to air a series regularly and reliably could never impact that show finding an audience...could it, Fox?
i was hoping they would ever since they started remaking family guy. hells yes!
'bout time.I missed Futurama. The reason it was yanked was because it was becoming superior to the Simpsons with each new episode & Fox didn't want anything hurting it's cash cow.
I thought the last season of Futurama was weak. Too many "very special" episodes like the ones about Frye's brother and
dog.
However, I suspect the fatalistic tone of that last season was based in part on FOX constantly pre-empting the show for football. So hopefully that won't be a problem now.
either way, even that ep was better than the show on now...what is the name of the one...only actual show not a cartoon on sundays, with the family?
The War at Home?
I kinda like that one.
it's not as good as family guy or the simpsons, or futurama even. it wears on me mostly. the youngest son and the mother the most. though the father waivin his hands around all the time is wierd
Hey, that mom has a quality rack.
I can't watch live-action sitcoms anymore.
I hope new Futurama is good like old Futurama, cuz new Family Guy sucks...
Joe Mama agrees with you

Some people are only happy when they have something in the past to cling to.
I hope they actually build on the Fry/Leela relationship. The last season['s?] felt like banging your head against a wall. Fry made some progress, but the next episode it was back at the beginning
I demand more Robot Devil and Zoidberg aswell!

Yeah, I've actually reached the point I sort of like American Dad better than FG or the Simpsons this year.
This is excellent news, I shall immediately sacrifice a 100 virgi......a 100 bulls on the nearest pagan alter!
I actually don't see this as good news. Family Guy has been really dissapointed since its return. I prefer to go on with my idealized image of Futurama.
I didn't like Futurama during the first few episodes. Seemed like it was trying too hard, and Bender just seemed over-the-top in his crassness. But it quickly grew on me (like a rash), and by the time it was "put on hiatus" (read: cancelled) I was looking forward to seeing it more than the Simpsons.
I had a near identical experience with the show. I wrote it off after the first few episodes because it really hadn't found its stride yet, and was amazed at how much more I liked it when I started catching the Adult Swim reruns years later.
Don't get too excited. Billy West says later in the talk thread that Aintitcool references that he may have gotten his information wrong.
web page Guys,
I'm sorry I gave inaccurate info on the cartoon.I was told on one end that the
TV show was a go but DXC enlightened me (with a hammer) that this was
not the case.I think there is a Futurama project as in DVD's but I appearently
had bad info. But I do live to give good Futurama news to people. So I must've
died or something.
All eyes on the skies,
Billy
I'll even go as far as to say fucktard.
wow, that is strong.
but i second fucktard, they got my hopes up.
the fucktards
He shall burn on the stake for this!

'Futurama' getting new voices for Fry, Leela, Bender, and others- Twentieth Century Fox, which is still producing the series even though new episodes will air on Comedy Central, is recasting the major voice roles for the show. That means no more Billy West (Fry, Professor, and Ziodberg), Katey Sagal (Leela), John DiMaggio (Bender), Maurice LaMarche (Kif Kroker, among others), or Tress MacNeil (Mom, and several others).
Fox released a statement saying "We love the Futurama voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands. While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David's brilliantly subversive characters."
I predict that the bulk of these guys will give up their salary demands and return to the show.
I predict it's not Futurama without them...
I predict that Trek will continue to be gay.
i was never a huge fan of futurama, but its somewhat silly to think it will be the same show without the original cast. obviously not as jarring that its "only" the voice of the cast, but still. with this in mind, assuming fox isn't bluffing, it might be a wiser idea to create new characters for the show, and shift the original cast to the background (i.e; focus on the flanders / mo's tavern folk, instead of the simpsons family).
then again, voice over work is pretty goddamn easy. if the salaries are close enough, thats a few quick checks for the original crew.
Futurama is one of the few things ever I like watching in dubbed form. I just want all Futurama fans here to know that as devastating as this news might seem to you it does not affect me at all and you can all fuck off.
Take care,
Mxy
Just you wait. Soon enough, the Myxcan voice actors will start demanding higher salaries too. And then you'll be screwed.
They're not likely to try that. When the original Simpsons cast renegotiated their contracts, their Mexican counterparts decided to try the same thing. Fox just laughed and fired them all.
Wow. If they don't get the original VAs back they might as well just call this show Futurblunder.
It's a scare tactic by FOX to get the VAs and their agents to lower their asking prices.
Fan backlash doesn't always work out but in this case, it slammed a home run for the return of Futurama. A few weeks after the production company 20th Century Fox TV angered fans with news that they could be replacing the original voice actors over a salary dispute, HR is reporting the series will return with stars Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, John DiMaggio and Billy West. All five "Futurama" actors on Friday reached an agreement with the producing studio to reprise their parts on the show, set to come back with new episodes on Comedy Central in mid-2010.
Financial terms of the agreements were not released but it is understood that both sides have made compromises to bridge the initial salary gap, in which the actors were said to have asked for several times what the studio was offering.
The dispute between the Futurama voice cast and 20th TV escalated earlier this month when the studio hired casting directors to recast the roles. The show's fans reacted by vetoing any cast changes and petitioning for the original actors to come back.
At the show's panel at Comic-Con last week, co-creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen spoke in support of the actors and expressed optimism that the salary dispute would be resolved so they can return. In a sign that things were headed toward resolution, Groening was joined by a couple of members of the series' original voice cast in signing autographs at the Comic-Con exhibit hall.
The first two new episodes got leaked, apparently. I'm about to watch the first.
Anyone else watching this? It's so good. It's like The Simpsons still existed.
the simpsons? what, those old cartoons that Tracy Ullman used to show?
New season of Futurama has been awesome. I'm loving it.
I'm missing it....crap.Well,that's what DVD collections are for after all.
