Frank Zappa vs. Bob Novak on CNN's Crossfire, Circa 1986

Wow.

Were the 1980's so uptight and was it that bad that they were debating the 'obscenity' in Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur"??

That one guy getting in Zappa's face looks like G-man!

I must have missed all these uuptight assholes on TV when I was growing up...

WOW! What a great thread!

Sincerely,

Does anyone remember the member of congress who's wife was in charge of the PMRC?

Anyone?

I guess this family has been in favor of unwarranted regulation of human behavior for decades....
Frank Zappa died way too soon. I think we need him now more than ever.

Yes yes G-Man. One pandering politician seeking higher office's wife and 3 uptight Republicans piling on Frank Zappa in the clip.

It all washes out nicely.

Tom Braden was a democrat.
Sorry.

The stick-up-the-ass look sort of keeps one guessing...

No, the fact of the matter is that, once again, you were so consumed by your "republicans are the devil" obsession that you looked at a twenty-plus year old news clip, decided "I don't like that guy" and just assumed, based on your own biases, that someone had to be a republican because you didn't like them.

As you admitted, you aren't old enough to remember the PMRC hearings and the opposition to them by people like Frank Zappa, Dee Snider and (of all people) John Denver.

I am.

And, whether this fits into your skewed world view or not, the truth of the matter is that the people leading the charge against the musicians in congress were, as often as not, Democrats, including (as noted above) your beloved Al Gore, who, like his wife, actually spoke in favor of music censorship.
frank zappa is playing up here sunday night i can't wait to see him! woooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo!!!
