I hardly stop by the Politics forum here 'cause it's overwhelmingly annoying.

At least when I was a mod I *tried* to keep a fairly equal reflection of all opinions properly highlighted. I'd sticky popular threads if I agreed with them or not.

Now there are a shitload of stickied (and not always all that active) threads and about all of them are anti-Obama is some way. The only one that isn't is a thread that has a funny joke-article in it.

If you don't openly loathe the president, there is a lot of shit to wade through in that forum and it just isn't that friendly; it's a circle-jerk of bile.

Come on, Rob. Seriously. Why the fuck did you take away my Politifuk Modship?
Posted By: Uschi Re: *dramatic sigh* - 2009-06-21 1:22 PM
The stickied threads - oldest of which was not posted in for a solid week before I got bored and posted in it. The other is a soft week of no posts. For how voraciously the big political posters post there, that's a lot. You have to go 3-4 pages back to find un-stickied posts that old.

If I have to side with WonderBoy or MEM just to have a discussion in there, that's fucked up.

Why can't you old bastards calm the fuck down and stop being such petty cunts? Seriously! You're getting your panties twisted over the most immaterial things! Breathe, goddamnit! He's the president and will be for another 3+ years! The USA did NOT explode into chaos and murdering, fetus-raping Hell when he was elected! I wasn't all that happy with Bush, but I still left off the CONSTANT BADGERING. That's what you DO in a community of people with different thoughts and opinions. You respect other people and build a bridge and get over it. He's ONE MAN. There are checks and balances and procedures and bureaucracy and other shit and NO, HE WON'T DO EVERYTHING HE WANTS OR EVEN PROMISED ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL! Really, is this *new* to you? That's what POLITICIANS DO. You are older than I am, surely you've noticed that trend before.

Broken? That's one word for it. I'm just fed up with this bullshit. I sometimes want to just have a discussion about political or social stuff and not have to contend with a horde of assholes jumping on the most inane things. The politics and current events forum is more like a cave for y'all to throw rocks around in. You realize you aren't going to change anyone's mind, right? This is the internet. You are not going to change the world, or the USA, based on circle-jerking in a message-board forum.

I'm just saying, it would be nice if the atmosphere in there wasn't so stifling.

I'm not saying Hive-Mind, I'm saying you loud-mouths could make a little concession for people with different opinions. You're just shouting the same shit over and over, let someone else shout some opinionated bullshit occasionally. (I say "let" not as if anyone is being blocked from actually posting, but how attractive is it to post when 90% of the replies are petty and nit-picking and confrontational? I don't harass you dimwits *every* time I think you're making an ass of yourself in that forum; I don't have that much time! heh)

Yeah, well... you ARE siding with Penissa. She has the same political opinions. She gets in a twist over benign bollocks that doesn't matter. You couldn't claim that I side with those rambo fags because I don't post enough of my political opinion for you to know my stance.

Token dissent is retarded.

How often do you see my copy and paste anything? How often do you see me agreeing with something someone else has copy and pasted? There is no one here I agree with completely when it comes to politics. You're just lumping people into the two groups because its easy for you to do.

I will let what I say stand, but you of all people should know Pariah -- I respond to the vast majority of your posts by completely ignoring them. I don't want to get into an argument over the semantics of someone's opinion, so I don't post back to you. It is a passive way to respond on the internet, and honestly the most effective.

I'm addressing it here for three reasons. Four.

1. I'm not sleepy yet.

2. It really does get annoying to have to argue constantly in that forum. *Thus I am addressing it here, in the random chat forum. Where discussions can be held honestly and objectively... at times.

3. I'd like to offer a chance for you guys to wake up and smell how overcooked you're getting. A lot of the posts in there are *really* crossing the line between valid complaint and overzealous hatred. For reals. Chill out a bit.

4. I want my Modship back. Any mod'll do.

Fine for you to say, but I read your posts in there and I am always taken aback, like "really?!" Honestly there are few political posters that I read enough by to know their basic stances (low end 3, high end 5), but you're in that group. I lumped Penissa into the group because of her random shouts of agreement. This is all.

...what?

You say that as if the former negates the latter.

The former = valid complaint

The latter = overzealous hatred

...and *I* am "saying" that valid complaints negate overzealous hatred?

To be fully clear, I made sure I didn't have the wrong definition of "negate" in my long-term memory... and I don't...

ne⋅gate
–verb (used with object)
1. to deny the existence, evidence, or truth of: an investigation tending to negate any supernatural influences.
2. to nullify or cause to be ineffective: Progress on the study has been negated by the lack of funds.
–verb (used without object)
3. to be negative; bring or cause negative results: a pessimism that always negates.

...valid complaints negate overzealous hatred? *I* am "saying" this?

...didja get that backwards? Or am I totally missing something here?
Posted By: Pariah Re: *dramatic sigh* - 2009-06-21 2:27 PM
Er...Yeah. Switch that around.
Posted By: Uschi Re: *dramatic sigh* - 2009-06-21 3:02 PM
Well, what I *am* saying is that the overzealous hatred is so prolific as to bury the valid complaints in a pile of shit that I most days don't want to wade through. Doesn't take away from the validity of valid complaints, no, but it does detract attention from them and lowers my general level of respect for the people that can't get off it once in a while.

I mean, seriously. Read some of the shit in there. Ignore the political names and just read it. It is damn near insane. Wholly non-objective, irrational thought most of the time. And frankly I don't give a shit that there ARE valid points to debate because I don't have the time to find them in that mess. Thus, with the exception of a few rabid followers of the strong-left, the moderates and myself do not post there and it is a giant. circle. jerk.
Posted By: Pariah Re: *dramatic sigh* - 2009-06-21 3:09 PM
How are we defining moderates? People who make reasonable posts?

I mean, if we didn't have polarized dialectics there wouldn't be any conversations to wade through let alone a pile of overzealous shit.

Anyway.....Uh....I guess I sympathize in that all the threads seem to cover Obama all the time, but trying to consolidate his category to one thread would be even worse.

I do think there is way to many sticky threads. I don't mind it too much because I think it was done more to annoy Pro than to push a political agenda. Although I could be wrong.

I don't have anything against Pro, it's just that message boards were created as an outlet for anti-social people to be social.

Getting miscreants & misanthropes together.

I used to make it a point to stay clear of that forum, it makes people nuts.

However I do not like the Obama administration and that seems to keep dragging me back in there.

I've never been a fan of stickied threads. The topics people care about tend to rise to the top on their own. However, it's not particularly worth bitching about.

Furthermore, Uschi, if you don't like the opinions expressed in the politics forum, participate more and provide an opposing viewpoint. More speech, not less, is the cure for views you don't like.

She can have it. \:\)

The reason I'm "idle" is for the main basic reasons Uschi listed here. Those that are part of the problem can't see beyond themselves, thus you're never going to accomplish a reasonable discussion in that forum without it sliding into a biased screaming match (from the Left or Right equally).

Used to be, when Bush was in power, the Hard Left (i.e. Whomod) was the one screaming and ranting. Now that Obama is in power, it's the Hard Right (i.e. Bsams and G-Man) that are throwing fits. It's not a forum for Moderates. It's a forum for politics, and politics seem to attract competitive, adversarial hardliners that don't view it as an exchange or analysis of ideas or social theory, but rather a battleground where the side they represent must "win" at any cost. It's a sports forum where many feel the need to justify and validate their beliefs at the expense of any others.

The original headbutting Basams and I did a while back was specifically because he and I are "Mods" of the "Politics" Forum. I wanted to eliminate the stickied threads, and let the forum flow on its own. He wanted the opposite. Of course, some of that was him fucking with me, and on my side, I was dealing with some serious stuff in my personal life. Thus, it went a little overboard, either way.

I still think the stickied threads in there is nonsense. But, I've also realized I just don't care enough about that forum's version of "politics" to try and change it. If it makes the Right-Wingers happy, let them have their corner of the universe. If I want to discuss politics, I'll just go somewhere else...

I've tried to bring it up in the Politics forum before and got called ...what's reax's term? Obamanazi? THE Franta and others brought a huge thing into the Comic Book forum, I called them out for it. Sure you are. You started this thread complaining that BSAMS only sticked anti-Obama threads and that the forum is "a circle-jerk of bile" against the President. That's politics.

Your complaint can't be that BSAMS stickies too many threads because, as I recall, when you WERE mod you had at least a half-dozen threads stickied. Furthermore, your own biases affected which threads you stickied in 2008, insofar as you only stickied threads about those candidates you thought were worthy of attention.

Finally, it should be noted that what finally set you off was when BSAMS criticized Obama for how he celebrated Father's Day. Maybe I'm wildly off base here but it seemed pretty clear that he did so wholly as a joke to tweak off MEM for starting a Father's Day thread in the politics forum in the first place.

Social politics. The dressing of the issue IS political but the core issue I am addressing is about a message board forum. Sure it stems from political views different from my own being posted non-stop and the irritation that comes when trying to discuss anything else, but the issue I wanted to talk about mostly is how that forum no longer is a pleasant facility for open discussion.

 Quote:

Yeah, in the attempt to highlight as many perspectives as I could. And when complaint raised, I got the hint and changed. My complaint here is that the stickied threads are single-minded, only representing one viewpoint, and left up there no matter how often (or not) they are posted in.

 Quote:

...until you graciously made me a big ole thread with links to ALL of them, in which place I stickied THAT, said thanks, and removed the others. There were a shitload of candidates and I tried to keep a thread on the "bigger runners" in the pre-pre-election. Since you were one of the people bitching about the multitude of threads back then, I'm certain you can feel at least small pleasure knowing that I *could* have stickied even more threads.

I never claimed to be the best mod; I claimed to *try* to improve and reflect the people engaging in the forum's interests. I never was a mod before and there is a learning curve if one is to be an *active* moderator.

Not really, that comment just reminded me of dozens of others (and I read through a handful of pages of threads last night to verify that I wasn't blowing out my ass), including the aforementioned incident with THE Franta. It wasn't the impetus so much as the forum in general was. It has been irking me any time I go in there, and last night I wasn't sleepy and honestly had nothing better to do than bitch about it. It's the fact you don't vehemently disagree with everything Obama does. That's their criteria. There is no middle ground. It's the Bush standard: "You're either with us, or you're the enemy."

Yeah, and (to be fair) you were gracious about my point (or as gracious as hermaphrodite nazi can be).

At the same time, however (as the BSAMS/Promod dustup demonstrated) having the mods sticky or unsticky each others' threads doesn't solve the problem either.

I still tend to think that the solution for the politics forum is no mod at all. It seems like no matter who's the mod someone claims there's a bias there.

Well, now that is just getting childish and petty again. My sisters and I used to do that kinda stuff when K wanted to listen to country and L wanted to listen to pop on the radio. When I was 5-8 (then L and I were fighting over the music and we broke the stereo door). Worry not, children often are capable of growing up and reaching compromises. I think the politics forum benefits from a couple very chill moderators. Nobody to push their own agenda, nobody to ignore what the majority is interested in, but also not someone that wants to be in there moving shit every day. Someone that will introduce new avenues of discussion from time to time. Someone that knows how to let the forum flow under its own power and only step in when helpful or needed.

I thought I was well on the way to reaching something like that when Rob de-modded me. It was a work in progress, yeah, but I was working on it. And he took it away even though I never violated the unwritten assumed contract of modship in that forum.

Not in the politics forum.

Rob once offered me a mod position in the comic book forum or something. I said "ok, if you do that I'll delete everything there". For some reason I never got the position.

Um, how many of these commandments are there and could I get them in a nice bullet point format? It'd make these a heck of a lot simpler. BTW, I still can't post polls. Do I have to reach a certain post count to do that?

the political forum is sorta like the comic book forum for adults. ...or vice versa. its a lot of land-locked opinions, and then others trying to make you believe the opposite; theirs. nothing is gonna budge, you already either like spiderman or think he's dog poop.

it's often too "loud" in there for me, but others are having fun with it, so it's fine with me. whomod "ruled" before, but the opposing view kept visiting. now gman/bsams "rule", but the opposition keeps visiting. clearly, certain folks dig it in there. have at it!

Call me a tard, but I don't see it. Below that content box my only options are to add thread to watched topic list, add sig, submit, or preview.

It's easy to tell the Obama worshipers they get really upset at his name being taken in vein. They then point to Bush. MEM didnt bite, who knew Uschi would?

Note to Uschi:

All those supposed anti-Obama threads stickied at the top, you do realize that anyone can post in them and give a dissenting opinion, that the only way a thread can be anti-Obama or pro-Obama is if no one disputes the subject right? A thread title does not make the content, the discussion within does.

It's the fact you don't vehemently disagree with everything Obama does. That's their criteria. There is no middle ground. It's the Bush standard: "You're either with us, or you're the enemy."

Except that to the liberals here, despite that we disagreed with Bush on a number of issues (immigration, free trade, amnesty for illegals, Harriet Miers nomination, pre-surge conduct of the Iraq war, the financial bailout, etc.) despite that we vehemently --to use your word-- disagreed with Bush on these issues, we were labelled as goose-stepping Bushites who never questioned anything he did and were 100% on his side, when even during the 2004 campaign I said that the Democrats offering John Kerry offered no palatable alternative to a guy ( W. Bush) we didn't agree on much with.

So you guys are the zombies for the liberal party line that you accuse us of being on the conservative side.

You don't "vehemently disagree" with what Obama does, because you almost completely agree with what Obama does. I'd love to see you guys post a topic on what you actually disagree with Obama on (as I and others OFTEN did regarding Bush), instead of this vague pussy babble about "uhh, well, we don't agree with Obama on everything..."

Until you actually specify some dissent, I don't believe you.

Beyond, y'know, non-specific bitching that really doesn't commit to any actual condemnation of Obama, such as "that sucks".
I actually HAVE voted for independents, and seriously considered Democrats candidates in previous elections. I'm not a strictly whoever-the-Republican-is-I'm-voting-for-him guy.
You and Pro, however, I can't possibly see ever voting for or even considering McCain, Romney, Barr, Nader, etc.

In my defense, there were quite a few here at that time (2 or 3 yeares ago) who pointed out the leftward shift of your political views, relative to what you posted previous to that.
But yeah, you're not a liberal.
