I caved. I finally bought a Gamecube. From a friend, for 50 bucks.

Anyway, I've been trying out new games and so far I've been really dissapointed. Starfox Assault was crap. Not a fan of the 3D Zelda games. I was a little underwhelmed by Smash Bros. Melee, Double Dash, and the Mario sports games. Metroid is, at best, a poor man's Halo. So far the one keeper I've found is Resident Evil 4, which is absolutely mindbogglingly awesome.

Everybody tells me that the feature to the GC is the great games. Where are they? I go to Blockbuster and it's all old retreads of games I thought were fun when I was six. Somebody help me out here?

Uhm....

Uh......

Killer 7 comes out July 7....Except I hear the Ps2 version's gonna be bettern the GC version.

If you don't like the nintendo franchise games ( Mario, Metroid, Zelda and such) you're probably out of luck. Any other game for it is most likely on another console and is an inferior port.

The GC version of Mortal Kombat: Deception has Shao Khan and Goro as playable characters...the X Box and PS2 versions do not.

That's all I can tell you...

Try Eternal Darkness.
Posted By: Pariah Re: Good GC games - 2005-06-20 3:57 AM
You could try Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, but the control is shit.

You know, I'm just gonna come right out and say it: I think you made a mistake. RE's getting ported for PS2 in six months and all the other games for GC currently suck.

Has anybody tried the batman begins game? If so, is it any good?

Maybe you should try asking in the Batman Begins videogame thread.

...

that, metroid 2, and wind waker, aside ... your best bets for sure hits would be as follows:

  • eternal darkness might be your best bet. dark n'creepy like RE games, but with an amazing story. IGN constantly hails it as the most indepth story ever featured in a video games.

  • paper mario: It's practically overflowing with wonderful, funny characters, memorable subplots, inventive gameplay, and beautiful visuals, and it's lengthy and quite challenging to boot. - Greg Kasavin

  • pikmin 2: With Pikmin 2, Nintendo has addressed the bulk of the shortcomings of its predecessor by crafting a game that tops the original in nearly every way.

  • rogue squadron II: Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II improves upon its predecessor and serves up one of the best showcases for Nintendo's system and an equally impressive game.

viewtiful joe 1 and 2, animal crossing, re 1, soul calibur 2, mario sunshine, pikmin 1, baten kaitos, metal gear solid, zelda four swords, and super monkey ball games really hold their own as fantastic titles.

also, the upcoming killer 7, geist, and of course, the legend of zelda: twilight princess (if y'wanna hop back into hyrule)

Are there any good games in the Mario/Metroid/Zelda franchises anymore, though? They all seem like cheap knockoffs that add absolutely nothing to what came before. Is Mario Party 6 really different from Mario Party 5?

Wasn't Paper Mario the turn-based Mario game? I'm much of a fan of those.

Pikmin seems pretty interesting(or, at the very least, original). Viewtiful Joe had great graphics, but after about a half-hour of playing it seemed like it was the same stuff over and over again, and Viewtiful Joe 2 was much the same. I already have Soul Caliber 2, and Twin Snakes didn't look that great.

I'll definitely give Eternal Darkness a try.

mario party is justa bad game that sells well in japan, hence the constant iterations. skip it.

even mario sunshine, despite being a really fun title, just doesn't hold its own in the world of mario.

wind waker, on the other hand, is brilliant. dont let the screen shots fool you. the animation, storyline, and attention to detail of both of those aspects are top notch.

as for metroid...

aye.

i liked it. really solid first person shooter. great story. ... and not near as fun or solid as goldeneye, out several years prior.

metroid is in a whole 'nother league for two reasons. (1) i think its significantly better. (2) its a whole different genre, apart from halo and/or goldeneye. it takes place in first person, yes. but thats where the similarities end.

metroid prime (1 moreso than 2, i think) is simply an amazing fucking game. best of the past few years.

yessir. ...but believe you me, im not either. in fact, i'd go so far as to say i hate turn based games. ... but my appeal of the "mario" world (coupled amazing reviews) had me give the game a chance and i was greatly rewarded.

great "puzzley" game. very addicting and very fun. i own the first, but have played the second -- and the latter is definitely the better of the two.

metal gear isn't my type of game, but twin snakes looks amazing -- i can't speak on the game other than visuals, tho. pariah is moreso (sadly?) the expert here, as MGS is his type of game.

that should do it.

silicon knights -- great minds in there. (to note, they partenered to make "twin snakes")

Only the first Metroid was any good really.

Summoner 2 was a great game....Long quest with a million different options. It's got everything you want in an RPG, but with real time controls. The graphic overhaul between the PS2 version and the improved GC version is a plus as well.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect has great action, humor, and an excellent multiplayer system. I don't know about the graphics on the GameCube version, though. On second thought, the entire TimeSplitters series is worth a look. Beyond that, I dunno. I'm mainly a PC person myself, but I occasionally venture into the kingdom of the PS2.
Posted By: PCG342 Re: Good GC games - 2005-06-20 7:15 PM
BTW, TimeSplitters was created by the same geniuses that made GoldenEye. Think of all that classic goldeneye action on speed, and you have timesplitters.

I'm a huge Metal Gear Solid fan(like Pariah), so when I first heard about Twin Snakes oh those many years ago, I was pumped. Then, I saw screenshots like this:

That's really not much better than the graphics the first Metal Gear solid game had(which is essentially all Twin Snakes is, right?), and that was seven years ago. Sons of Liberty and Snake-Eater look a lot better.

That first MGS game was great and all(revolutionary, infact)...but if the graphics on Twin Snakes aren't much better, I might as well just play the Playstation one.

Is Summoner 2 on Gamecube? I looked it up and I'm only seeing PS2.

It's called Summoner: Godess Reborn on GC.

Geist still isn't out? That looked awesome, like, 2 years ago. What platforms is it being developed for?
Posted By: Memorade Re: Good GC games - 2005-06-22 7:11 AM
geist has been long in the works, but it keeps getting prettier!

metroid prime is my all time favorite game of this generation, followed by GTA san andreas. so much detail!!
