How did he die? Inner gravitational suckage or Judd Winick give him AIDS?
Posted By: thedoctor Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 12:51 AM
Speed Force AIDS.

It kills you before anyone can book the benefit concert.

That should really be your catchphrase.

It could be...

I personally don't need a catchphrase. I'm already so famous after Rob gave me a bowling trophy and mentioned me in his blog.
Which was really nice of him seeing as how i never read his blog or played bowling.

It is Wally (and Linda and the twins) that are back. The Legionnaire that "died" was to be Karate Kid, but he "ducked" the lightning strike.

I'm getting ready to read this...
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 7:44 PM
Meh, Guggenheim was doing a really good job on this book....DC screwed him they apparently hate kids now (ie Superboy, etc). This was an alright issue as far as deaths go, it was valiant and reminiscent of the Hippolyta death issue in wonder Woman...this had a nice Barry flashback. The writing was fine, but a bit rushed -it seems like 2 issues compressed into one.

I love Wally being back, but 2 things...1) you kill Bart in this book to make way for Wally who comes back in JLA 10??WTF??? Couldn't you have had Wally at least come back as a result of Bart's lost Speed Force or something..Jeebus!
2) Why are you killing Bart, why did you age him, why did you let those shitty writers get a hold of this book and fuck up your plans, because I know you changed them--people hated Bart as Flash so you killed him, but people were starting to like Bart after you made plans to kill him...WTF?

Didio is a jerk and has no idea how to direct a comic company--first rule don't listen to internet fans...they chnage their minds every 5 seconds.

Lord!

Now they are letting Mark Waid come back to write Flash....Mark Waid sucks now...have you read any of his shit from the past 6 years? Oy......

An utter disappointment although I don't think Guggenheim is to blame here---it was a decent death story....

Brave & Bold's actually pretty good.

yeah, DC's been really transparent on this one. I do credit them for realizing that this take on Flash wasn't working and trying to fix it, but it seems like they've gone way too overboard. but I haven't read it and don't plan to.

oh, and also this whole "we planned it this way from the start!" business. suuurrreee, JQ, suuuurreeee. . .

Good take Grimm.

you really hated B&B?
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 8:58 PM
I only read the first issue, but yeah...Not so much hate as I don't like the concept of the story...
Posted By: Grimm Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 9:00 PM

I thought it worked for the format. I like the multiple subplots, and the actual story reasons for the teamups. rather than just "random" characters tossed together for no real reason.
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 9:02 PM
Random team-ups mean it isn't written with a TPB in mind...I like random...

Why not Adam strange and Supergirl, why not Phantom stranger and Lobo???
Posted By: Grimm Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 9:05 PM

random can work if it's not the only way it's done and if the pairing is strong enough. after a while though, it becomes repetitive.

I think Adam Strange and Supergirl is coming up, actually. but I might be wrong.

Phantom Stranger and Lobo could be interesting.

I've always wanted to see the Question and the Creeper teamup, meself.
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-20 9:15 PM
Yeah, I've had a long list of team-ups in mind, but i wanted to see this series be done in ones with an occasional two-parter.

SPOILERS!

I'm relieved that Karate Kid won't be the Legionairre who dies.

He's died so many times already that he actually ought not to even exist anymore....
Posted By: Jeremy Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-21 4:21 AM
Wally returning in JLA was weak. Yeah, it's about damn time he's back, but it should be in his own title or in Countdown. Meltzer didn't really make me care about him returning in this storyline. It just kinda happened. I'm looking forward to a new writer, one that can do slam-bang action.
Posted By: Matter-eater Man Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-21 7:12 AM
So was that Barry Allen that ended up in KK's lightning rod?
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-21 7:16 AM
Hmmm, I was thinking it was Bart...

Or at least his speed force.
Posted By: Nöwheremän Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-21 5:18 PM
Who care about any of this shit!
Comics no longer have any credibility when it comes to deaths!

So they killed Bart............so fucking what.
They killed Hal, Ollie, Jason, Wally and god knows how many others, and where are they now............oh yeah, alive and kicking again!

Give it a few years and Bart will probably be revealed as going back to the 30th century as a baby or something!

I just read both comics last night...I liked them both.

I don't see why they had to kill Bart though. His character was just kind of getting interesting.

To me he was always the most interesting speedster. Don't get me wrong, the others had some great stories behind them, but character-wise, Bart was the first to break the mold.

This whole thing reminds me of the Ben Reilly death. Fans don't like the situation so we'll kill off the character completely, instead of just fixing the error with a good story and realizing the character's potential.

Yeah.

Yet they stuck with Rayner for years, and still havent killed that cunt!

This has always been one of my pet peeves.. most characters who are killed off are killed solely due to a lack of imagination on the part of the writer.

Even second string heroes can be made interesting.. if the writer is willing to put the required effort into it.
Posted By: notwedge Re: Flash #13 and JLA #10 - 2007-06-23 7:29 AM
The more they took him away from being Impulse, the less interesting he got. His best moments when he stopped being Impulse were the ones when he acted when he was Impulse. I'd have loved it if they would have undid all the "progress" they made instead of killing him off.
Young Justice was a great, fun series. The angst-filled retro series that replaced it is garbage. Teen Titans ruined the formerly fun characters. Bart stopped being a loveable idiot and became this super-genius kid flash.
Then he was a serious and boring Flash. I would've read his Flash series past issue 3 if it was a fun Bart trying to be serious as the Flash instead of yet another angst filled hero.

Guggenheim was decent, but the problem was the character (or what was left of it by the time Guggenheim came in). He was just fucking boring, in complete contrast to the fun and unpredictable character he was at first. They didn't have to kill him to solve the problem, they only had to write him right.
