I would love to know what you consider "fair value."
I would too, but consider this:
Disney bought Marvel for $4 billion ($4,000,000,000)
According to the NY Times it paid that sum for the rights to 5000 characters, from Spider-man to Squirrel Girl.
Assuming, simply for the sake of argument, that the $4 billion is divided equally per character (that is, Spiderman wasn’t worth any more than Squirrel Girl), then Disney paid $800,000.00 per character.
SG presumably wants the rights to (at least) the three main ‘Shazam’ characters (Cap, Mary, Junior), their major supporting characters and villains. It appears she also wants the rights to the other Fawcett superheroes from the 1940s.
So, based on my recollection of the 1970s DC Shazam comics (and the Fawcett reprints therein), she wants to buy the rights to at least the following:
- 1. Capt. Marvel
2. Capt. Marvel Jr.
3. Mary Marvel
4. the Wizard Shazam
5. Sivana
6. Sivana Jr
7. Georgia Sivana
8. Beautia Sivana
9. Magnificus Sivana
10. Capt. Nazi
11. Ibac
12. Mr Mind
13. Mr Atom
14. Black Adam
15. Uncle Dudley
16. Ebenzeer Batson
17. Sterling Morrison
18. Mr Tawny
19. Lt. "Fat" Marvel
20. Lt. "Tall" Marvel
21. Lt. "Hillbilly" Marvel
22. Hoppy the Marvel Bunny
There’s also the other Fawcett heroes, which would include the following:
- 23. Bulletman
24. Bulletgirl,
25. Spy Smasher,
26. Minute-Man,
27. Mr. Scarlet
28. Pinky
29. Ibis
So, at $800,000 per character for 29 characters
the fair market value for the “Fawcett Heroes” would be twenty-three million, two hundred thousand dollars ($23,200,000.00).Either she's a lot wealthier than one would think or she plans to hold one hell of a bake sale.
