Posted By: Pariah Re: graduations! - 2005-05-05 5:20 AM
Technically, I already graduated from high-school, but I didn't get ceremony. A diploma just came in the mail.

I don't know what he said, but I'm finishing up too. Lots of my friends are graduating too. Some grads, some undergrads. Indeed, it's all good.

I'm graduating from my community college and going to, like, a real university.

Yay.

Polishing off my four-year stint as a Philosophy major so that I may venture out into the dreaded 'real world' and become...

...a philosopher...

Awwwwwwww good luck philosophizing Chews....I could picture you in theatre somewhere like on Broadway!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVED community....hated state university but loved my private university. Where you going to wind up and what are you majoring in?

To the rest of you guys still in college, STAY AS LONG AS YOU CAN...the real world totally sucks!
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: graduations! - 2005-05-05 6:43 PM
But you make money in the real world!

I am so glad that another philosopher has join the fold, but my advice is to start looking into grad school immediately. The only thing you can do with a philosophy degree is to either think deep thoughts about being unemployed or wait tables. Trust me I know from experience.

I'll be done next semester, and finally have my undergraduate degree in biochemistry

Biblical studies......communications.....MUSIC!!!! OH my gosh I knew that was yours And philosophy was your minor right?
Posted By: Jeremy Re: graduations! - 2005-05-06 7:30 AM
One of the things I'm looking forward to post-graduation (besides seeing my friends at home, family, and $working$) is getting back to good old Graham Crackers Comics. I like the 10% off I'm getting around here, but the comic store here sucks terribly.

I'll let the minor slide. It's composition/theory/musicology.

There are also some of us *smart* people who hang around who didn't happen to graduate this year, but rather a...ahem...a few years ago.

BA, 1987
MA, 1993

I should stayed and gotten the Ph. D. One more reason I'm getting a divorce.

Yes. I am still around though - working on campus for the summer. I'll tell you how it all went tomorrow if I'm not busy moving into my apartment.
Posted By: Jeremy Re: graduations! - 2005-05-08 7:12 AM
Good job Sammitch! Me however, I'm getting nervous as hell.
Posted By: PrincessElisa Re: graduations! - 2005-05-08 8:02 AM
It's not that bad Jeremys....it takes forever to get to the stage but once you're up it takes less than a few seconds. Nobody tripped or fell so have no fears. If I could wear heels and not make an idiot of myself you should be just fine!
Posted By: Jeremy Re: graduations! - 2005-05-08 8:15 AM
I'm not nervous about walking, I'm nervous about the finals. Walking is the easy part, hell that'll be great.
Posted By: Jim Jackson Re: graduations! - 2005-05-08 7:36 PM
In my undergraduate graduation, the only ones to walk onstage for receipt of diploma were those who had completed their Ph. D.s. Their major profs hooded them and handed them their diplomas. Masters degree students were recognized only by having their names announced over the PA. And Bachelors students were not recognized in any individual way. BA/BS students from each college arose as their college was announced and moved their tassles over when the Dean of that College told them to do so, to signify graduation.

And for my MA, I didn't even go to the Commencement at all. They mailed me my diploma, which was fine. I had two small children then and was not going to go through the hassle of making my wife attend to both of them simply so I could have my name read aloud in an auditorium in Cincinnati.

I'm done with undergrad next Monday. I'm strongly considering pursuing a Master's of Fine Arts in creative writing.
