I went onto the new boards with a more-or-less open mind. I knew that we were going to lose old threads (and *possibly* screen names) - certainly not what I wanted but that's the way it was going to be.

The ONE thing that was, in my eyes, an improvement - the preview feature - wouldn't work for me. It was a chore to post and I don't want this to be work. So I had fun during the final weeklong postathon & figured I'd be "retiring" after that. (Why do you think I revealed all my IDs?)

This board took me by surprise. I hadn't guessed how much I'd like the features, or that a LOT of familiar faces would wander over too. It's amazing that we got our own section so quickly - and that it's growing so quickly.

But the one thing this is not and can not be is the official board. If you guys have heard my story (ehh, I tell it with some frequency), you know that I wound up at the Legion board on a whim while looking through the DCMB lists. If I was doing that for the first time today, I probably wouldn't have found you guys.

Anyway...it's kinda unfortunate that there's some "us vs. them" argument going on over on the DC Legion board. I hope that new folks will still check us out and post here if they like what they see.

I agree with TD! As I mentioned on "that board", there's a place for both MB's and I plan to shoot my mouth off both places. "That board" IS "official" and we should maintain a presence there to trap, er, convince newcomers to join our ranks. But I still like this board better! :-PPP

I agree completely that an "us vs. them" mentality really does not get us anywhere. We're here. If anyone would like to join us, they can. Our purpose in being here is, I take it, to have fun talking about that beautiful and wondrous thing called the Legion. If others do not appreciate or want to be a part of the community we have formed here, then that is their choice. As far as I'm concerned, though, you folks are awesome!

Incidentally, like TD, I pretty much planned on retiring after the transition to the new boards. I'm only here because it's still fun. As long as it is so, new people will find it and join in.

I agree that the thread is counterproductive... but I got very much irked over there today, even though I didn't show it over there as much as a couple others. :)

Yeah, I got pretty pissed off myself, Opti. And when BB took that bitchy shot at Pov I really saw red. No one messes with my lil' Povvy, by damn! <hands hooking into claws> I'll blind 'em, I tell ya--- I'll blind 'em!!!

"Us vs them" is not cool and not to be encouraged. People here have pointed out a number of essential problems with the DC boards - the over-zealous auto-censor, the no-edit, the slowness and, sadly, the attitude of some posters. DC could and may fix some of these difficulties. The attitudes I don't understand, because at the old DC Legion board, things never got out of hand - if tempers flared, other people cooled them down or the original angry one apologized. That's what I recall, anyways. So what's happened?

I'm not on the DC Boards because I can't access them. Tech problem which can't be solved for the time being.

I was once told by a wise & experienced man who worked with "groups" : if your group is broken, stay there and fix it. Don't come mess up my group.

For now, that doesn't apply to us here, we're not broken. But let's not get broken, either. Stay cool. And since the DC Boards are the official entry for DC comics discussion, I hope that those who are able will continue to post there and work to establish an atmosphere of understanding, appreciation and cooperation. That's what the Legion's all about. And if you have to kick some bad guy ass to do it, you have my blessing. That's in the Legion job description, too.

Matt, Watership Down was so cool, one of my favourite books too.

Actually, FNB, those three (along with wristwatch) have been taken out of the DC boards' autocensor, for a couple weeks now. Rob has said that changes grind exceedingly slowly -- they have to go through in-house software types -- but they do happen.

And the stupid-brained program still won't tell you what is wrong. So you have to second-guess. At least, they could make asterisk substitutes, as the UBB program did.

I agree about not alienating those who could still be persuaded to come over here. Doesn't mean one can't jump on their ass if they diss this place, though.

A couple of our stellar posters mentioned that they had planned to retire when the new DC Boards came in. Imagine - they could have used the freed-up time to pursue self-actualization, find a cure for cancer, write the great American novel....

Instead, they found this board and have been saved from lives of dreary achievement.

You know... we should have realized something was wrong when we couldn't actually make it to 100...
