Star Boy & Lightning Lad were kind of noted for their bad luck but preboot I would say Triplicate Girl surpasses the guys in the bad luck department. 1/3 of her died, another part was damaged by radiation & thought to be dead. She had a long crush on Superboy that was hopeless. Plus perhaps the ugliest costume during the Adventure run. Not to mention she wasn't a powerhouse to boot. And she doesn't even have an action figure even though DCD has to know many of us Legion freaks would buy 3 of them!

I don't know.

I think it's pretty hard to surpass Garth in that department. Especially now.

Triplicate Girl was certainly unlucky pre-boot - and it never occurred to me that of course you'd buy three action figures of her! [nyah hah] Even Triad, this time around, had an awful childhood then got beaten severely by the White Triangle.

Lightning Lad is perennially unlucky - all versions. Maybe his luck is about to change? Wonder why he's the character always losing his arm, dying, etc etc?

I would also add Brainiac 5 - his childhood is usually depicted as unpleasant if not miserable; he kept losing Supergirl, he lost Andromeda (two versions), he can't seem to lose Computo in any version and his grand experiments tend to be 50:50 disasters:successes. At least he's still alive, so I won't call him the unluckiest.

The bad luck is sort of essential to the character of Garth. He's the guy who tries to do the right thing, but things just never seem to go his way. It's part of the appeal of Garth. It's what separates him from the super-boyscouts such as Cos or Superboy on the one hand, and the bad boys such as Ultra Boy or the current Timber Wolf. It's ultimately what makes him appealing to Imra (besides his utter devotion to her). He's good, but flawed.

Like, maybe he'll become un dead?

With his luck, though, he'll likely come back undead.

Now there's an idea - we need a vampire legionnaire.

We nearly did once, apparently the vampire character from the TMK era was going to become a legionnaire.

Ferro seems pretty unlucky to me -- wasn't he created to die? I'm not positive about that, but he bit the big one early on in his career.

Then there's the face...

Then there's the postboot version -- rejected by mother, raised in a lab, lived on the streets, failed to save his brother, mistreated by stronger female members of the team (Inferno and Triad), gets beaten into a coma on Steeple and loses a finger or two.

And then there's the upcoming issue....

Bob Legion. That guy is just so unlucky. His ex drained his bank account before taking off. His best friend stole his stereo before running off with his ex. He's always stuck cleaning the HQ or running out to pick up burgers for the other Legionnaires. Plus, he's never even appeared in an issue of Legion. Poor Bob Legion. [no no no] [sad]

Good choices all (weel except maybe Bob Legion [wink] ) A couple of other Legionnaires that could be in the running include:

Timber Wolf: Experimented on by father who dies; has memory tampered with by an android who replaces him while convincing him that HE is an android; while an android mets the girl of his dreams and SHE falls for him so he has to push her away; once all this get straightened out he finally joins the Legion only to become addicted to a narcotic fruit; girl of his dreams turns out to be the girl of every GIRL'S dreams; gets turned into a dustmop.

Mon-el: Plays tourist to a planet about to explode; escapes by the skin of his teeth and reaches earth (actually crashes down on Earth)which causes him to lose his memory; meets someone who thinks they could be brothers only to be proven wrong; is accused by "kid brother" of being up to something evil; gets poisoned by "kid brother" by exposure to lead which leads to death for Daxamites; saved (saved?) by being banished to the Phantom Zone where he languishes for TEN centuries with only creeps for company.
