Well, the yellow halo is my favorite of the batman emblems, too. But for what it's worth, the new Bat Signal emblem for the movie ain't that bad. It could have been a lot worse.
Besides, it's going to be black on the actual costume. The rust is just for show. So I don't see the big problem with it. Actually, it looks a lot like Alex Ross' version of the costume insignia.

It's very much like Bob Kane and Bill Fingers original Bat-symbol.
I don't really have a preferance any more when it comes to the yellow oval.
It depends on the artist who draws it.
Like one of my favs of all time is Norm Breyfogles batman symbol.
