I just saw episodes 3 through 5 yesterday.

the one with "scabby-Abby" wasn't very good, neither was the one with the "love-potion"

Though it WAS kinda funny,

But "Run" the Flash one, that was pretty good. Good special affects too.

Witches trying to pose as women. How original. And that piano scene was way to diabolical, even for me. Who put this show together? Mel Gibson?

I quit watching when they started having girls kiss each other in the previews of Smallville Seasion 4. Why couldn't they keep it innocent and good like the first season?

The "Mxyzptlk" episode was wholly disappointing. I didn't even watch the last episode. Looked pretty dumb. This show honestly looks like it's starting to go downhill. Here's hoping it gets better soon...

What they need to do is have Lex have a much bigger role. He's the best character on the show.

meh, i still really liked it. this season is by far the best.

there is a very strong notion this season that "we're no longer in kansas." with this all-of-a-sudden huge quest for these three icons of power and lana gaining an ancestral power and chloe's near murder and lionel's "parent trap," and kal's flight and lana's bewitching, etc, etc, etc... we're way past "freak of the week" here.

in fact, the only thing really tying them to the school is clark's now-finished football season (which i thought was a really nice touch).

i dunno, i just really think its all clicking and working. ever the internet optimist, of course.

i love lois. i think she's perfect. i also think she looked damn fine all sluttied up as the witch. i think lex is the show, and love how his role is becoming more than just occasional advisor, with his apparent developing interest in lana. i think lionel is the lex of the future, and his arrogance and confidence are a beautiful contrast to the stumbling kents. i think clark is really coming into his own, with welling as an actor finally finding his stride, and clark as a 'young' man finally finding his.

Other than Chloe and Lois' hotness, Lex's bad-ass-ness, and the discovery of magic as Clark's weakness, this episode stunk. It was corny, there were times I wanted to shut it off...and I never do that to Smallville. The storyline was okay but parts of it, and the Superman mythos altogether, don't add up. Lex was cool as always, what Lana did to him was just harsh. Him and that Jason character saved the episode from totally sucking.

The 'witch' story would have been better had their book not had the Kryptonian language all over it. I still haven't made sense of how that, the caves, and all these prophesies (sp?) fit into Clark becoming Superman. I understand how the cave fits if Jor-el was the one that put it there. But the show keeps suggesting the cave and its symbols were there long before Jor-el's visit. That just doesn't make sense, were Kryptonians on Earth even before Jor-el was there. He certainly wasn't there in the 1600's.

Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it, but I hope that gets tied together soon.

I dropped Smallville 3 weeks ago for LOST. I'm not regretting that either.

And so far, from what I've heard . . . I'm not missing a damn thing . . . which is too bad.

its not necessarily jor-el's work.

the caves and their carvings are from indiginous natives who lived in the area hundreds of years ago. that, plus the introduction of these stones (which are thousands of earth years old) seem to indicate that kryptonians have been exploring other worlds for generations.

the speculation makes this superman an almost biblical figure, who was prophesized and foretold for generations.

Kryptonians exploring other worlds makes some sense, with them being all scientific and such.

But Superman being prophesized for generations doesn't (to me anyway). That would mean that the Kryptonians knew that the planet was going to blow up for those generations. Unless Smallville's writers are tweaking that aspect of Superman, that doesn't seem to work. Thoughts?

nossir.

the only thing the "prophecies" indicated was that a mega powered sunhumma bitch would arrive on the planet earth. it doesn't state that he would be alone or abandoned or anything more specific. thus, its possible kryptonians not only explored other planets in the universe, but eventually planned on colonizing them. remember, any kryptonian would be a super powered badass on earth.

however, once doom started hitting krypton, and things became desperate, jor-el had only enough time to send his son on his way. he targetted earth because he had already explored and OK'd it.

the natives' prophecies are fulfilled by clark being there, just as much as they would be if jor-el and 10 subordinates were there.

What about that whole thing about Kal dominating the Earth? That and the whole Clark and Kal l are 2 different people. That I don't like, or are they setting something up where he eventually figures out that he's not there to dominate the Earth but to protect it and eventually embraces Kal and accepts him as himself, thus being 1 person, instead of 2 different people?

I missed last season but the first ep of this season, Clark, and everyone, was talking bout Kal like he was a seperate person. When Clark fully embraced his destiny, and became Kal el, he was dark, evil, more so than what he's like normally.

That and I remember them saying something about Jor l saying something about Clark's going to conqure Earth or something like that. It was all really screwy.

kal is just the kryptonian clark. they're the same person, just different halves. clark is the simpler farm boy, and kal is the more rigid and computer-like kryptonian.

kal only really came about inbetween seasons 3 and 4 when clark was sucked into a phantom-zone-like part of krypton. there, jor-el (or jor-el's spirit) apparently got his fatherly chance to raise and/or develop kal-el, as he would have, given the chance on krypton.

whether or not the actual message from jor-el was to "dominate the earth" is up for grabs and open to interpretation.

its really just showing the differences between clark's human and alien lives.

There won't be a new episode next week. "A Walk to Remember" will air in the 8-10pm timeslot next week. The episode they promoed ("Scare") will air December 1.

Okay, so Smallville won't be on tonight so... how about we speculate a little about where this season is heading...

The Stones

There's some who think that the three stones, when assembled, will either lead to and/or build the Fortress of Solitude (the "great library of knowledge") like the green crystal in the first movie built the FoS. If that's true, I think it'd be fantastic.

The location of the stones -

This is something I noticed and thought was interesting...

Where did Lex find the "fire" stone? In the deserts of Egypt.

Where did Lionel find the "water" stone? In the flooded ruins of a Mayan temple, within the statue of a Mayan water god.

I'm betting that if the "air" stone is found this season, then it'll probably be found at a high altitude, like a mountain range in Tibet or the Swiss Alps, maybe. What do you all think?

The Tatoo(s)

Something else I noticed...

Now, Lana's "water" tatoo didn't disappear after the witch was exorcised so I'm assuming it still has some significance to the main storyline (unless it disappears after the Jane Seymour storyline) and....

Clark has been "branded" with the "air" symbol before (it reappeared on Kal-El in "Crusade" when Clark/Kal-El were split), so do you think that someone else will get the "fire" mark this season? Jonathan? Pete (if he comes back)? Chloe? Lois?

I don't think it would be Lex because the stones seem to have a reaction when Lex gets near them. If you notice, the "fire" and "water" stones didn't start to "signal" Clark until they were within arm's reach of Lex (the "fire" stone didn't signal until the statue was broken, the "water" stone didn't signal until Lionel was within a few feet of Lex in the prison).

What is the significance of the marks? Will Clark need two other people to find or "unlock" the Fortress?

Room 33.1

What do you think is in Room 33.1, the room Lex brought Mxyzptlk to? I think that either Lex is collecting former Freaks of the Week, or Room 33.1 is a relocated and expanded "Clark Room" (the room where he kept all the information he's collected on Clark since the car wreck).

The Future

Assuming a fifth season, what do you think they'll do? Clark, Chloe, & Lana are all seniors this year, so do think they'll all go to Metropolis U. next year? I'm certain that if there is a fifth season, Lois will become a regular character and I hope that they start showing more of the Daily Planet and Michael McKean as Perry.

What about the name of the series? They could still call it SMALLVILLE since Clark could very easily go back and forth between Smallville and Metropolis. They could also keep the SMALLVILLE title in the sense that Lois has given Clark the nickname "Smallville". Get it? The title could then refer to Clark himself as opposed to the town itself. Of course, they could simply drop the title of SMALLVILLE altogether and change the name of the show to METROPOLIS. You never know...

I think they plan to have a fifth season. It would still be in smallville because if it was in metropolis, it would be superman. I think they also want to keep a separation between smallville and the new superman movie.

Well, he won't be Superman until he puts the suit on. As to Metropolis, it's always been a part of the show, from a background element to having episodes feature it more than Smallville itself ("Insurgence," for example). Lois will be featured in all the second-half of the season's episodes and according to interviews Michael McKean is supposed to be returning as Perry sometime toward the end of the season.

The WB will have a new episode this week, then next week they will replay the last episode from last season, followed by the season premiere from this season. This kind of schedule really makes me want to stop watching and wait for the DVD.
