I can see buying cult shows like Family Guy on DVD, but why would anyone pay for Seinfeld, which airs, what, three times a day on every channel?

Family Guy airs every night on the Cartoon Network. You get shows you like and want to watch at your conveinence on DVD. Not to mention the special features. Plus, like the article says, at least a minute is cut out of every show for syndication.

That's why I'm excited about Diff'rent Strokes. It's not on TV anymore, but it's a show I find fun to watch. So now I can get the chance to watch it when I want.

My other favorite shows (Married... With Children, Golden Girls, I Love Lucy) still air fairly frequently on TV, so I don't have much desire to buy them on DVD (Golden Girls I might get, but it's not on DVD yet).

But it isn't re-run into the ground the way that "Seinfeld" is. Between local stations and "superstations" like TBS, it's on constantly. Pretty easy to find at "my convenience."

Furthermore, at the time the DVD sets came out, "Family Guy" wasn't on CN. It was the success of the DVD sets that led executives to start re-running the show.

No, but the look on Arnold's face when he was watching those X-rated cartoons was funny!

I never understood the idea behind tv shows coming out on DVD's, really(unless they're short-lived shows that have no chance of ever being shown again). We live in re-run crazy times, what's the point? Even 50 year old shows have their regular time-slot, on Nick at Nite or other late-night slots( that seem poorly placed, considering older people fall asleep earlier rather than later, but I digress).

Movies, that I get, because most movies are heavily edited both for content and to fit time parameters. TV shows, however, aren't(at least not usually).

25 bucks is an awfully high price to pay for special features, but maybe that's just me.

I actually am excited about the un-edited sienfeld episodes because I didn't start watching it until it was in syndication.

And about the "old people going to bed early thing" I usually see LLance here late at night and he's in Kentucky and I'm in Eugene. So he's usually online until 4-5 in the morning.

I don't have cable,... I love the fact that almost every TV show is coming out on DVD. Currently the only three TV shows I have on DVD are Transformers, The A-Team and Mister Show, but I'm borrowing Curb Your Enthusiasm from a friend. I peronally prefer TV on DVD because then you're not a slave to air times.

There are also some shows that are better on DVD. Alias is a good example. It makes it a lot easier to follow.

My take: Yeah, I am buying it.

First, there are the extras. Very nice stuff. The show itself was classic. I think there is no problem arguing that. Easily one of the top ten (would say top 5, but I don't want to create arguments). Add in bloopers, and it makes the stuff funnier. Little slip-ups in front of the audience. I always got a kick out of that stuff.

But to have access to all of the episodes, unedited. That is something I like. Like other TV shows I have, or even music video comps, it is something about control. "Hey the stuff still comes on." But there are a lot of episodes, and it is a matter of waiting. Sides, there is that report about how they don't show certain seasons. Can't remember which ones. Reminds me of how Comedy Central failed to show Kids in the Hall episodes. Always the same ones. Always. So... yeah, you buy the stuff.

That freedom to go from season to season and pick out what you want to watch, or, if you have friends who want to relive a particular moment... For me, the Downtown thing has been stuck in my head "Like the song." "That's where it's at." "Downtown." But don't have much control over when the episode comes on.

Then, there is quality. Quality of the episodes has regressed on tape, but I figure they went back and did some cleanup for the DVD. Also, no commercials. Woo-hoo.

I know with some shows different channels own different seasons. It was this way with 90210. It all depends on who owns the rights.
