ARTEMIS RECORDS TO RELEASE TRIBUTE TO WARREN ZEVON; "ENJOY EVERY SANDWICH: THE SONGS OF WARREN ZEVON" DUE OCTOBER 19TH; ALBUM FEATURES LINE-UP OF ARTISTS INCLUDING BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, BOB DYLAN, JACKSON BROWNE, ADAM SANDLER, DON HENLEY, THE PIXIES AND MANY MORE

On October 19th, Artemis Records is set to release a very special tribute album to the late Warren Zevon entitled ENJOY EVERY SANDWICH: THE SONGS OF WARREN ZEVON. The album features many of Zevon's best-known songs performed by a stunning array of artists including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Adam Sandler, Don Henley, The Pixies and many more. Also included are two never-before-released Zevon-penned songs: "Studebaker" performed by Zevon's son, Jordan Zevon with background vocals provided by Wallflowers' Jakob Dylan, and "The Wind" performed by Billy Bob Thornton. Legendary arranger Van Dyke Parks adds string arrangements to the beautiful "Keep Me In Your Heart", performed by Jorge Calderon and Jennifer Warnes.

Bruce Springsteen pays homage to his late friend during the spoken introduction to his live track contribution, "My Ride's Here", calling Zevon "one of the great, great Ameican songwriters". ENJOY EVERY SANDWICH: THE SONGS OF WARREN ZEVON is co-executive produced by Jorge Calderon and Jordan Zevon. Calderon co-produced and co-wrote Warren Zevon's final album, the two-time Grammy-winning, gold-certified THE WIND. Calderon commented "This record is a celebration of Warren Zevon's music, and Warren, being a true artist's artist, attracted some of the best folks in contemporary music thus making it a very special party". Jordan Zevon added "I'm so proud of this record and the diverse line-up of artists that participated. Hearing Dad's songs voiced by such an eclectic collection of artists reminds you of what a brilliant songwriter he was". Warren Zevon passed away on September 7th, 2003.

A couple of observations:

The Good:
I've heard a bootleg of Dylan's "Mutineer." Excellent. It will probably be the highlight of the album.

I've also heard a boot of the Springsteen cut. It's OK. It's another one of those acoustic Bruce live covers that he cranks out every couple of years on tour. Worth hearing.

"Searching for a heart" already sort of sounded like an Eagles song. I think this will work.

I like Pete Yorn (though, Neil Young would have been better).

The bad:

The Wallflowers? One of the mellowist bands around doing "Lawyers GUns and Money"? Why not just re-release the Hank Williams Jr version? That version was good.

If you're going to get Steve Earle to do a Zevon tribute song, why not let him cover "Mohammed's Radio" with the Dixie Chicks?

The Wind?!? WTF? There is no song called the wind? That was the name of his last album and the title came from a line in the song "Please Stay"

THE UGLY:

Letting Sandler do "Werewolves" is a disaster. I hope Jordan Zevon realizes that he risks giving every hack DJ on Earth a reason to play Sandler's version every Oct 31 like some followup to the Chaunukkah song, and eclipse the only hit single his father ever had.

Otherwise, the album sounds hit or miss interesting. Hopefully they'll put it on I-tunes so I can only download the tracks I want and skip the ones I don't.

I don't think Dylan and Zevon were friends per se, but I believe they knew each other casually and were each admirers of the other.

However, I think Zevon's son, who is producing the album and Jackob Dylan are, in fact, friends.

I wonder if maybe Jordan doesn't LIKE his father to be remembered for Werewolves...

Although personally I dread hearing that poor man's Jim Carey every Halloween.

Is Sandler really that popular anymore?
More importantly is his alleged humourous attempt at singing popular anymore...I think one song from him is plenty!
I think Paul Shaffer would have been a blast to do that one!

My brother suggested that John Hiatt should have done a cover!

Id rather they had Meatloaf's cover of Lawyers, Guns and Money and maybe the Wallflowers on something else...Searching For a Heart? Nobody's In Love this Year?

"The Wind" - Billy Bob Thornton I am assuming will be Thorton's speech about Zevon before the VH1 special.

Have you heard Jill Sobule at all? She had toured with him on several occassions and is fabulous! Ive bought her albums and love them! She did a duet with him in concert on Dont Let Us Get Sick.

I have some of the bootlegs of Zevon and Jill doing covers: most notably Johnny Cash/June Carter's "Jackson." I enjoy them.

Jordan may not want his father remembered for "Werewolves," but, if he is not careful, he'll end up insuring that his father is barely remembered at all.

Personally, if "Werewolves" was to be covered, I would have gone with the Dead or Lou Reed.

And John Hiatt doing something, perhaps "Bed of Coals," would have been brilliant.

Yeah rufie got me a copy of it!

Im sure numerous bands have covered Werewolves.

Truth to tell I dont thinkZevon cares if he gets a new following his current "customers" (he never liked to call us fans) seemed to be enough for him.

"Searching For A Heart" - Don Henley*
Well done

"Werewolves of London" - Adam Sandler**
Wasnt as bad as I thought it would be

"Reconsider Me" - Steve Earle ****

"Poor Poor Pitiful Me" - Jackson Browne with Bonnie Raitt **
Decent cover but I didnt hear Bonnnie much

"My Ride's Here" (live) - Bruce Springsteen
awful

"Lawyers, Guns, and Money" - Wallflowers *
Wasnt bad but sounded similar to One Headlight

"Studebaker" - Jordan Zevon ***
I dont recall ever hearing this from Warren....sadly Jordan sounds nothing like his father...

Actually not bad...must be a song not released...which brings hope for a CD of Warren's unrealesed stuff

"Splendid Isolation" - Pete Yorn ***
Was as good as expected

"Mutineer" (live) - Bob Dylan

OH MY GOD DID THAT SUCK!
Dylan sounded like he was doing a Shatner impersonation....I think its time for him to retire...

"Monkey Wash Donkey Rinse" - David Lindley and Ry Cooder *
My favorite on the album! I wish Lindley did some more stuff...I think his only hit was GIMME THAT THING

"Don't Let Us Get Sick" - Jill Sobule *****
As lovely as expected

"Ain't That Pretty At All" - Pixies
Decent cover!

"Keep Me In Your Heart" - Jorge Calderon/ Jennifer Warnes *

I actually liked the Dylan cover.

To my ear, Jordan does sound like his dad. If you've ever heard the young Warren's voice on his "Lyme and Cybelle" stuff, Jordan sounds very similar.

The voice is similar but his style is a bit different.

And you are right he does sound like a younger Warren...

I liked "Studebaker" the best. Probably because, as a song WZ never released, it didnt suffer in comparison to the original.

I also liked these tracks:

"Monkey Wash Donkey Rinse"
"Don't Let Us Get Sick"
"Ain't That Pretty At All"
