Both February and March’s issues are written by J.D. Finn, and April’s issue, #826 is part one of the three-part storyline, “Lightning Strikes,” by Judd Winick, Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund. The villain in the three-part storyline, well…a quick look at the covers below should give a very strong clue as to his identity.

According to sources at DC, both a new writer for Action Comics, as well as the post Brian Azzarello/Jim Lee Superman creative team will be named soon.

Chuck Austen sucks.
I try not to just lable writers like that but he does suck.
What anybody sees in his writing is beyond me.
Maybe he just turns his work in on time.
His stories are just lackluster and generic. It's fucking painful.

No kidding. I really hope Rucka doesn't end up off Adventures. His run really seems to have direction to it. Couldn't say the same for Austen. His first issue or two were solid, but when he (Austen) mixed Lana into things and had Superman bust people's hands up...well I lost interest. I like how he had a new villian each month, but it would have been nice if he wrote them out. They just kind of lingered. Oh well, Ian Churchill is drawing and that makes me all kinds of happy.

I'm sure no one else really cares, but as a longtime Power of Shazam fan, It irks me that people confuse the hero with the wizard. It irks me even more when those people are supposed to be in the know.

I disagree -- I've liked Winnick's work on GA, GL, and Outsiders and have no qualms with him doing three issues before a new team comes on board. The guy is admittedly liberal for my tastes as well, but he's a solid comics writer in my opinion, and a hell of a lot better than Austen...

Word going around is that Austen has also been replaced on Watchworld (a series he created? anyone familiar?) by a Sam Clemens. (Ring any bells? Mark Twain?) This has prompted speculation that both "Clemens" and "J.D. Finn" are Austen writing under psuedonyms.

It's a shame that Captain Marvel, probably one of the oldest and historically important heroes around has to run around saddled with SHAZAM because of some third rate MARVEL comics character.

I actually think its the comic book company called "Marvel" which is the reason why Captain Marvel is referred to as "Shazam", and not the other character.

I just hope she can continue doing what she's doing on Birds Of Prey. I really do enjoy that book. But, then again, I've dug her comic work since Deadpool and her column over at Comic Book Resources (You'll All Be Sorry, I believe was its name) was enjoyable as well.

I can't beleive I just read a Chuck Austen Superman story where Supes goes up against the guy who's repo'ing his dad's tractor.

So yeah, I was inclined to cut him some slack BEFORE I opened up Action # 822.
Unfortunately though, I think theres waaay too many Chuck Austen's out there in the world of comics. Writers who write books in the most juvenile condescending unintelligent way imaginable. As if their target audience were dumb 8 yr. olds who like watching people punch each other for the flimsiest of reasons.

I've read Chuck Austen. And I don't believe he's clever enough to do that.
In fact, I'd be surprised if he even knows what a psuedonym is.
