... A4-sized anthology comics?

Hold on, I am not talking about turning superhero comics into manga. What I am talking about is an anthology comic with 2nd tier heroes put out in a "Shonen Jump" sized (& priced) book.

IMO, it could be bring back some classic titles, like Adventure and a few others, but would anyone buy them?

Yes, and I think we'll see just that within the next 5 years.

IMO, the format means roughly next to nothing. If it's crap, I wouldn't care even it came in papers shaped like tits. But if it's REALLY good then I'd buy it regardless of the size or shape of the paper and I would probably wonder why it disappeared in the first place.

If it is quality stuff, then yes..I enjoy most anthologies of the past, and greatly enjoyed the Crossgen ones. Marvel could do this easily with their essential line providing material, but I assume it would have to be newer stuff for the youngins.

I agree with SoM. If the stories and creative teams were worth my time and money, then I'd scoop it up in half a heartbeat. But if it was just packed with formerly rejected stories and trash bin fodder, then, no, I couldn't be bothered.

Vertigo used to run a horror title called Flinch which lasted just over a year before it was cancelled. Each issue contained three stories by different creative teams but the quality varied and I don't think there was ever anything in it that was truly great.

Part of the problem with these anthologies is getting writers and artists to take them seriously and not submit cast-off ideas or sub-standard work.

This is a funny post, only because I really liked Flinch and would buy it again in a heartbeat. This is one of those titles I always list on the "What Comic Would You Bring Back?" threads.

I seem to recall DC's early 90s horror anthology was called "Wasteland", and had a similar thing happening.

I believe that was actually late '80s, but I could be wrong. I bought a few issues of that and enjoyed it for its pre-Vertigo strangeness. I wish I still had them.

Yeah I would give it a try. In the past though anthologies just never had the quality IMHO. Crossgens were good but they were collecting stories that ran in their regular monthlies. Also really liked the Adventure digests from the 80's. A slightly bigger version of that would be pretty terrific. With manga being so popular it's a logical thing for these companies to pursue.

Fair play!
