The Japanese animation series
Fucking excellent! The turns this series takes at the end are unbelievable. The seeds of the final episodes were planted in the very 1st ep. [which actually takes place well after the last], but the way it happens left me so shocked
The ending to the last episode was unreal, it left it so cold that I was seething in anger

They descended into Hell where Griffith, the loved and looked up to leader of the renound mercenary group sold his soul to become one of the 5 demon lords. He then raped the woman Guts [the man who was his best friend] loved in front of his eyes while his arm was trapped in a demons mouth. Guts' sword broke, so he bludgeoned his arm off only to be held down again and forced to watch. It ended With Guts crying out in rage as tears slipped down his face
Then after the credits all you see is Guts gearing up without his arm and the eye he lost in the same battle
Although the ending burned my soul [I thought about it straight after the ending and it brought tears to my eyes], this is still the best story i've ever encountered, EVER!

Been hearing this a lot since I finished watching the anime a day and a half ago, but the English release is only up to #6 while the Japanese originals are up to #29. At the rate that the translated volumes are coming out I really will be an old grumpy bastard by the time the series ever finishes
