March 21, 2005 - John McClaine may have a sidekick in Die Hard 4. According to Massachusetts newspaper The Shirley Oracle (via Dark Horizons), Ben Affleck could star alongside aging action hero Bruce Willis in the forthcoming flick.

Willis and Affleck have become good friends since appearing together in 1998's Armageddon. They had hoped to work together on Tears of the Sun, but that fell through and the plan to collaborate again was shelved, until recently, when Willis suggested Affleck for the next Die Hard movie.

Affleck would reportedly play John McClaine's adult son who is also a cop.

Little else is known about the film's storyline. Willis recently told Empire magazine, "The script will be done by summer and they want to shoot it in the fall. McClane's retired, he's not a cop anymore. It's completely different from the other three films."

There are rumors that Willis' character my be killed-off in the next film. These are unsubstantiated, but it's entirely possible. Maybe the franchise would then be handed off to Affleck? The Gigli star may be in need of a new franchise since rumor has it that Paramount may drop him from future Jack Ryan films.

Assuming the Die Hard 4 goes ahead, it'll probably arrive in theaters in Summer 2006.

Affleck has been in some absolutely horrible movies lately, but this could be a big boost for him. If this is true I'll be kinda excited about die Hard 4.

Affleck's had his day and needs to be put out to pasture. Ten bucks says he'll be in Season 7 of The Surreal Life.

Affleck still has it in him to make good movies and to act well in them. He did a decent job in "Jersey Girl" and "Paycheck," which were a couple of his more recent movies, and he was excellent in "Changing Lanes."

I think Affleck's biggest problem is his choice of scripts. He's one of those actors that needs a good script to work with in order to give a good performance.

So I wouldn't count him out yet.

....and Jamie Fox, who will play the son of the cop from the first flick.

Damn. I don't mind another Die Hard, but, this "passing of the torch to [INSERT POPULAR YOUNG STAR IN NEED OF A FRANCHISE HERE]" is a bit silly. Does Affleck need to ruin another beloved movie series, like the Jack Ryan flicks? What next? The son of Indiana Jones, or, James Bond's illegitimate bastard?

Ben Affleck sucks. Matt Damon is a MUCH better actor.

I hope this movie isn't made, because if it is I'll have to go see it only because of how brilliant the first one is.

Affleck and John Travolta are like the Gene Hackman and Michael Caine of their generations: two talented actors who seem determined to ruin their careers by picking schlock parts.

So do you think him being in the next Die Hard movie and possibly taking over the franchise as a good thing?

I wouldn't dream of putting Affleck in the same company as the other three.

John Travolta is talented but I don't see how he's picking schlock parts.

Affleck isn't talented and at this point in his (sinking) career would do any part offered to him.

Timberlake in Die Hard 4.0?

New actioner described as "computer warfare."

April 04, 2005 - Die Hard "four-point-oh" is likely to mix Bruce Willis action with a technology-driven plot. The latest rumors at Moviehole.net describe the movie's plot as "computer warfare". While Willis's character John McClane remains the hero, the film will allegedly also introduce both McClane's grown-up son John – who was seen as a child in the first Die Hard – and also McClane's daughter Lucy.

The story also includes an interesting casting possibility: Willis is supposedly pushing for Justin Timberlake to play John McClane Jr. The studio is reportedly considering Timberlake a front-runner for the role, while earlier rumors connected Ben Affleck with the part.

According to BruceWillis.com, the fourth Die Hard film is supposed to be set 18 years after the original movie, putting McClane's son somewhere in his mid-twenties.

None of these casting rumors are firm yet. Stay tuned for official announcements!

If we're lucky, maybe Timberlake will be the guest terrorist for the movie!
