you definitely shouldnt!

there are no pop up ads on these boards.

if you get'em, there's prolly something running on your comptuer

like gator ads -- which is a common annoyance. its a program that is installed on your PC with another program (i.e; unknowingly) that causes yoru PC to spit up popup ads everyonce in a while, regardless of what site you're on.

but there definitely shouldnt be any from these boards or this site.

if its not that gator thing, its gotta be somethin like it.

gator comes with a few programs -- date manager, time...manager (somethin like that) and some of the lesser known MP3 programs, like bearshare or spyamp.

i tihnk if you go to the gator site, it tells you what it comes with.

Another good free program to help deal with all the crap that's on websites (banner ads, pop-up ads, funky javascript, etc. ) is the proxomitron (hope that url works) it basically "re-writes" webpages on the fly. I'm on a dial-up connection and it doesn't slow my connection down at all (in fact, pages load quicker on my computer with it because it doesn't load all the extra crap).

It might seem complicated from reading the manual (because it is) but I've got it set on its defaults and it works great. I imagine if I actually bothered to the read the instructions, I could do all sorts of fancy crap with it, but like I said, the defaults handle almost everything you're going to need.

If you get those "internet messages" pop -ups, just increase your security settings in your Control Panel settings. I had to lower mine to get some stuff off Filetopia, and started getting hit with those about every half hour.

I recommend Browser Hijack Blaster, here. It prevents your home page from being converted to an unwanted search page and whatnot. There's more goodies on that page to look through too.

I prolly picked up most of my spyware from Kazaa & WinMX,but ad-aware got rid of most of it,gotta be careful though when getting rid of files cause it detects part of the Kazaa programme as spyware & I had to re-install it!

I still download,I just clean up every couple of weeks but I get those pop ups here as well occasionally, popswatter usually kills it though!

something new I just bought is Webroot's Spy Sweeper. I downloaded the trial version from their site and liked it so I bought the full version. It found spyware that Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot wouldn't pick up.

http://www.webroot.com/

a lot of their software comes highly recommended.
