The clouds tumble and move, new things lie beyond -
The red dims.

Obi Wan emerges to encounter Scotty and Jar Jar. Their looks
tell him. He sees the flashing light over the reactor
room. He dashes for the control panel. Jar Jar grabs him.

(also holds him)

Obi Wan's eyes bulge.

With stunned understanding, Obi Wan stumbles to the door,
sees Anakin on his knees, hands blackened, face cracked
with radiation lines and scars.
Anakin shakes his head. With a feeble hand he reaches
the intercom button: FILTERED communication.
OBI WAN
(mouths word)
Anakin!
(calls out into
intercom)
Anakin!
ANAKIN
Ship - out of danger?
OBI WAN
Yes -
Anakin is satisfied; he fights for breath.
ANAKIN
Do not grieve, Admiral - it is
logical: the needs of the many
outweigh -
He almost keels over. Obi Wan has tears steaming down
his face.
OBI WAN
... the needs of the few...

He props a hand on the glass to support himself. Obi Wan's
hand reflexively goes to match Anakin's on the other side

ANAKIN

Anakin falls. Jar Jar and Scotty react.

CAMERA PANS DOWN with Anakin's burial capsule covered
with the Starfleet Logo/flag, being lowered down to
Torp. Bay 2. We SEE the Ship's Company in full dress
uniforms assembled for ship's burial service.
Over the PULLBACK, we HEAR:
OBI WAN
We are assembled here today to
pay final respects to our honored
dead.
Carol and Chewbacca are PROMINENTLY FEATURED.
Chewbacca watching Obi Wan attentively. So are Sulu, Uhura,
Chekov, and Padme. Jar Jar stands next to Obi Wan. Scotty
carries his bagpipes. Padme wears her hair down.

(continuing)
And yet, it should be noted, that
in the midst of our sorrow, this
death takes place in the shadow of
new life, the sunrise of a new world,
a world that our beloved comrade
gave his life to protect and
nourish. He did not feel this

and we will not debate his profound
wisdom at these proceedings. Of

All Starfleet personnel salute. Scotty begins to PIPE,
an odd blare which mellows into Amazing Grace. Obi Wan
nods a signal.

A gleaming black projectile is carried by pallbearers
into the launching chamber, which locks behind it. At
a hand signal from a TORPEDOMAN, the projectile is
fired. NOISE.
262 EXT. SPACE 262
Anakin's remains seen on their way to the new world.
The capsule grows too small to SEE. The bagpipes STOP.
263 INT. OBI WAN'S QUARTERS 263
After a long moment, the CAMERA DISCOVERS Obi Wan. He
pours a drink, then decides not to have it.
He sits wearily, not knowing how to shake the ghosts.
Then he sees the book.
Obi Wan picks up the battered volume, the gift from his
friend, and closes his eyes a moment. Almost idly he
starts turning pages, looking for a clue.

But he can't see the writing - He rummages through his
pockets and pulls out the half-glasses -
One of the lenses is broken. It has a deep impact on
Obi Wan. He puts down the book and glasses and covers
his eyes.
A SOFT BONG. Obi Wan clears his throat.
OBI WAN
Come.
The door whooshes open and closes to admit Chewbacca. The
last person Obi Wan expected to see.
CHEWBACCA
I don't mean to intrude.
OBI WAN
No, not at all. I should be on
the bridge.
CHEWBACCA
Look, can I talk to you for a
minute?
OBI WAN
I poured myself a drink. Would you
like it?
CHEWBACCA
Lieutenant Padme was right: you
never have faced a death.
OBI WAN
(hoarse)
No. Not like this. I haven't faced
death, I've cheated death. I've
tricked my way out of death and patted
myself on the back for my ingenuity.
I know nothing.
CHEWBACCA
You knew enough to tell Padme that
how we face death is at least as
important as how we face life -
OBI WAN
Just words -

begin. Maybe you should listen to

proud - to be your son.
A stunned moment, then Obi Wan lets it all hang out: for
Chewbacca, for Carol and for Anakin. He hugs his son,
holding onto him as to life itself.

The X-Wing Fighter passes the new planet in all its beauty.

The door whooshes. Obi Wan strides on the bridge, Chewbacca
with him. Carol is there with Jar Jar; they are glad at
what they see.

X-Wing Fighter moving as the sun goes behind the Genesis
planet.
OBI WAN'S VOICE
Captain's Log, Stardate eighty-
one, thirty-one, point six.

Obi Wan walks forward across bridge past Sulu. CAMERA
PULLS BACK with him to railing to include Jar Jar and
Carol looking at large screen with a full view of the
new Genesis planet with the sun coming around its side.

Starship X-Wing Fighter departed for
Ceti Alpha Five to pick up the
crew of the USS Death Star. All is
well. And yet, I can't help
wondering about the friend I
leave behind. there are always
possibilities, Anakin said. And
if Genesis is indeed "life from
death," I must return to this place
again.
JAR JAR
He's really not dead. As long as
we remember him.
OBI WAN
"It is a far, far better thing I do
than I have ever done before.
(beat)
A far better resting place that I
go to than I have ever known."
CAROL
(soft)

OBI WAN
No. Something Anakin was trying to
tell me. On my birthday.
Obi Wan shakes his head, remembering -
JAR JAR
You okay, Obi? How do you feel?
OBI WAN
