The NBA Finals begin tonight. I think that San Antonio takes Game 1 because the Nets are on a long, long layoff after sweeping Detroit and teams usually have trouble coming back from that(remember that Lakers losing Game 1 to the pathetic Sixers two years ago?), but I'm going to be a little gutsy and say the Nets take the series in six or seven.

Spurs in 5 or 6. The Nets haven't proven much to me. They looked great their last 2 series, but the Pistons and the Celtics aren't exactly the Lakers and the Mavericks.

I'm a Nets fan so I hope they win.......but whoever wins I think it will go 6 or 7 games. Probably Spurs but if the Nets give em a fight I could live with that.

I want the Spurs to sweep. It would serve Byron "The Bigot" Scott right after the way he unfairly and viciously trashed the city of Boston earlier in the postseason.

I can't speak about Boston personally, but there were a lot of people saying that Scott's criticisms were fair.

Dammit!!!!
You know I called every radio station in America sayin the one thing that would make the first game, but no one believed me. I said "David Robinson needs to be checked by Jason Collins or he'll explode" and that's what friggin' happened!!! When's the last time DRob put up numbers like that. Nets need to get a center with some balls, man!

Dude, even Bill Russell said Boston was a racist town, and he got the Celtics eleven championships.

Well after watching Game 1.........I still believe the Nets have a shot. They can not ever play the way they did in the second half again in this series or it's over. If they play like they did the first half we'll see a very competitive series. The long layoff definitely hurt the Nets. We'll see tomorrow.

Boston is a racist town. Byron Scott's criticisms were not only fair, but accurate.
I got the Spurs in 6.

Don't get too excited- The Spurs couldn't make a free throw to save their life and they turned the ball over every other possesion, and only lost by two. It was nice to see Kidd finally win a Finals game, but you have to assume they're at least a little bit concerned.

Hey Kristogar If the Nets win Game 3 your original prediction is looking more and more likely. The team that has won Game 3 when the series was 1-1 has won the series the past few years I think.

Never mind....the Nets just blew it. Idiots could have won this game but fell apart in the third quarter again.

The series is now 2-2 with one more game in NJ. If the Nets win Friday night they will probably win the series....if they lose

Don't worry-they won't win Friday. The Spurs won't play that horrible twice in a row, and as awful as they played Jersey should have won that game by close to 20, but only squeeked out a 1 point win.

Horrible, horrible, horrible game 5.
Where is Jason Kidd. Can someone tell me that? I refuse to believe Tony Parker is cleaning him up right now. And why didn't Coach Scott put Anthony Johnson on the floor, with his penetration skills and pull-ups. Or Mutombo for that matter?

Didn't sound that way after the game. They asked him if he could say for certain that he was coming back to Jersey, and he said 'No.'

Unless his wife is tired of Jersey, he'll be back. No one can offer him more money than Jersey can. If his wife wants to go back home to LA then he'll move to a west coast team.
My question is, what team will Payton end up on?

Naw, Kidd doesn't care about the money. Otherwise he'd take half the maximum so the Nets could sign a center, and some 2 guard. I don't think he believes in Richard Jefferson and Kenyon Martin, that's what it comes down to. I think it's down to San Antonio, NJ, or Oakland, his hometown. And with Golden State losing Gilbert Arenas, that leaves a perfect opportunity for Kidd to step in.
Oh and about Payton, there's a nasty rumor goin around that he's thinking about signing with the Lakers. If he does that, it's over.

I think he cares more about winning a championshiop, and he knows he's not gonna be able to do that in Jersey. I'd be really surprised if he re-signed with them.

Why not? They've got two young stars in the making in Martin and Jefferson. They've got a good supporting cast with Lucious Harris and co. They've got a great coach, and they have an owner who actually knows how to run a team(Rod Thorn).
All this "eastern conference is obselete" stuff is bogus, and if anything this year's finals should have proven that. The Nets played with the Spurs.
In a few years the balance of power will shift again, just as it always does. Five years ago nobody doubted that the East was superior.

I think Jason wants a championship, because he can tie his bonuses into it. They've been there twice now so he's close to it. I don't think the Warriors want to disrupt their chemistry.
I know the Lakers want Payton, but according to their GM Mitch Kupchak they can only offer him the salary cap exception, which is $500,000. I'm betting he goes to Portland.
