Finally, the U.N. does something right:
The people of Belgium have been left reeling by the first adult-only episode of the Smurfs, in which the blue-skinned cartoon characters' village is annihilated by warplanes.
The short but chilling film is the work of Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund....It opens with the Smurfs dancing, hand-in-hand, around a campfire and singing the Smurf song. Bluebirds flutter past and rabbits gambol around their familiar village of mushroom- shaped houses until, without warning, bombs begin to rain from the sky.
Tiny Smurfs scatter and run in vain from the whistling bombs, before being felled by blast waves and fiery explosions. The final scene shows a scorched and tattered Baby Smurf sobbing inconsolably, surrounded by prone Smurfs.
The final frame bears the message: "Don't let war affect the lives of children." I always hated those little blue Eurotrash socialist bastards. I'd actually pay good money to own this on DVD.

What I'd really like to see is the Cabbage Patch Kids get infected with some rare and incurable disease. It was a waste of paper and common sense to package them with birth certificates and for people everywhere to pretend they were real. Way to separate fact from fiction. I recall one of those commercials where a girl "adopts" one and says "I wanted to have my family when I was still young." and the grown-ups all chuckled. Umm, what about finishing school first?
At least the others mentioned were understood to be works of fiction. There's no such thing as aliens, there's no such thing as talking animals or little blue creatures, and there's no such thing as the G-man.
