Saw the original years ago. It was cool so I'm willing to give the remake a try. Hell of a cast.

yeah, id say!

if they all got their typical salaries, they'd be damned near 200 million in actors, alone.

thankfully (and, actually, pretty "cool" by hollywood standards), they all took HUGE pay cuts of up to 75% off their usual rates (for example, clooney took home under 5 mil, instead of his possible 17. julia roberts typically makes 23 mil now, per film. she did this for just under 8. ...aww... poor guys...).

whats weird is, judging by the fact they chose mostly all hollywood's higher-ups for the roles of the ratpack (and even extras), you'd think they could do better for sammy than "the goat."

I beg to differ, Gobbles. Don Cheadle is one of the more respected balck actors in Hollywood. His status is slightly below that of Denzel or Morgan Freeman as a practitioner of the craft. Sure, someone like Will Smith is a bigger name and commands more recognition but, Cheadle is an ACTOR of the highest order and I think he will more than hold his own in this cast.

Sides, a bigger name actor would have wanted a bigger credit and that wouldn't happen, what with Clooney, Pitt and Roberts fronting the show. Don't sleep on Cheadle. He's been excellent in everything I've ever seen him in. A bigger name wouldn't have done the film justice.

Besides, he's just the token black guy of the flick, much as Sammy was of the Rat Pack or I myself am of the NBs....Theo is much more accepted and has crossed over. I think there are still NBs that don't like me.

on a somewhat related note.....

Once my buddies and I went to a video store and put our faces on the cover of Robin and the seven Hoods over the rat pack's faces and it stayed there for a year!

...

so... ANYway....

yeah, i do think the goat is cool n'all (and, actually, to be honest... i liked "the goat"). but... i was thinkin denzel would have more aptly filled the role ESPECIALLY cuz all the other spots were jacked up with the big names.

(and thank the good lord it WASNT will smith or steve harvey or martin or whatever)

sam jackson, mebbe? he'd be good, but then, they'd have to kill him before the movie ends.

I saw it last night. Highly unbelievable...even for a movie. But, it was funny and loads of fun. Especially if you ever been to Vagas and know the location. Had the feel of a summer blockbuster. Worth the fiteen bucks and 2 hours. Hell of a distraction from a hectic work schedule.

I give it a thumb up. There are definitely worse things to see.

  • It wasn't the best flick of the year (not by a long shot)...but it certainly was interesting.
  • The cameos (as themselves even) were interesting and funny as hell to see Pitt's character interact with them. I got a good chuckle out of that.
  • Cheadle was great. Loved him...accent and all.

Ocean 11's definitely not the best flick of the year but still high entertainment value for your buck.

Best movie I've seen this year was the Denzel flick...Training Day. Except the last 15 minutes of that movie were pure crap.

Cheadle is a good actor. He was good in Traffic and in Swordfish.

This movie is yet to be released here. Probably get it on DVD...oh, hang on, Clooney is in it, so we'll probably go to the movies, then.

woo!

saw it this weekend and frickin loved it.

describing it as a "cool" movie is perfect -- its not like its some amazing flick with incredible acting and special effects or anything, but... its just... cool!

its incredibly hip, and you sorta feel cool watching it (my mom says im cool!)

i loved the entire bit -- definite contender (with monsters inc) for film of the year.

funny, smooth, intelligent, clever... all those stupid words fit well. i even loved how the whole thing was shot like a 60s movie (with weird sorta focusing, scenes that didnt cut or break away, camera's zooming all over the place, odd angles, etc).

great shit. id even pay to see it again!

WOW!
Just saw it Weds!
And finally Clooney plays or rather acts likeable!
Brad aint been as good since Figth Club!
And the bloke what plays Basher who was also in SNATCH(amongst other flicks) stole the show for me!
But Elliot Gould and Carl Reiner were also show stoppers!
Matt Damon really impressed me as well! I always considered him medicore but with this BIG name crew he really held his own! Reallt impressed
Bernie Mac.....well he was Bernie Mac....but that worked well for his character
Andy Garcia....I dont like all that much other than in Untouchables.....so I LOVED his evil part in this.
The only real dissapointment in the film was Julia Roberts (who truth be told has never impressed me in the past either) would have loved to have seen Nicole Kidman in this role almost as a parody of her relation with ego boy Cruise!

Best Fall Movie of 01 for me... beat out Monsters, Inc. and Harry Potter.

I agree with all the things Rob mentioned... absolutely loved it.

I loved the bit with the young actors... "All reds!"

Now I must check out the original...

Yeah, I saw it. Pretty stinky, IMHO; slow AND predictable--- kinda like "The Score", but worse (at least that one had some pretty good scenes with the BRILLIANT Edward Norton ).
