Not having condoms and having sex with guys that are 5 times more potent will get you pregnant.

No. What scene was that?

BTW, I hate to ask, but if women who get pregnant on the island (and, presumably, their fetuses) die, wouldn't an abortion solve the problem?

But even conservatives generally agree that abortion should be allowed when necessary to save the life of the mother.

So, getting back on topic, why wouldn't that be the obvious option?

they're not dead or whatever. If they were the end of the second season would have made no sense at all.

I'm willing to put money on the Island being off the coast of Florida though. There's been a couple hints this season alone.

someone official said they were not dead and that it wasn't a dream very early on in the series. might be on the boards somewhere.

One of the producers also said everything that happens on the island can really happen in real life.

I stopped believing that once Desmond started seeing the future.

I'm hoping for another season finale like last years where they explain tons of shit.

Not really, I gave them an out on that one.

Just about everything else could be explained by extreme coincidence.

One theory I have is that Ben is controlling everything on the island, including Desmond. Next weeks episode is called "The Man Behind the Curtain" and is going to be Ben-centric so this theory could be proven right or wrong then.

Yeah, they said that.
I don't think they're dead at all. Sayid's question about whether they actually saw the helicopter indicates she may be full of shit.
Or with all the weird genetic stuff maybe there were bodies on a plane, just not the 815 people and that plane.
The Others worked from a medical firm to get Juliette, so it's possible the ambulance that Locke's dad was in was their's. And he went out once they put a needle in him and we know from Juliette's story that they like to keep people unconscious when taking them to the island.

ABC is set to announce that Lost will end production after two more seasons. According to sources, ABC is planning to push back Lost's return date to January of next year in order to air new episodes back-to-back, and it is also "extremely likely" that Lost will change time slots next season.

Abrams has said that he wants the series have five seasons and a movie so I see this as a good thing, he will get to do everything he wanted to do in the TV series.

ABC details final three "Lost" seasons

ABC has set an end date for "Lost."

The Emmy-winning adventure series will run for 48 more episodes over three seasons. Each season will consist of 16 episodes, which will air uninterrupted.

"Lost" executive producers/showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who have been vocal about setting up an endgame for the show, have signed on to stay for the remainder of the series' run. Their separate new eight-figure deals with "Lost" producer ABC TV Studio include their services on the show as well as multiyear development pacts set to kick in when "Lost" bows out during the 2009-10 season.

"Due to the unique nature of 'Lost,' we knew it would require an end date to keep the integrity and strength of the show consistent throughout and to give the audience the payoff they deserve," ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson said.

Lindelof said having the end point in sight was "incredibly liberating. Like we've been running a marathon and we actually know where the finish line is for the first time."

Lindelof and Cuse said they've had "a road map for the series with all the major mythological milestones and the ending in place" for a while.

"What we didn't know was how long we had to play the story out," Cuse said. "By defining the endpoint we can now really map out the rest of the series in confidence."

There will be some puzzle play, too.

"We sort of view "Lost" as a mosaic," Cuse said. "Now there are only 48 more tiles that go into that mosaic, and we're figuring out, along with all the other writers, exactly where they all go."

In January, Lindelof and Cuse said that they envisioned the endpoint for "Lost" around episode 100. The agreement with ABC will bring the total number of episodes to 120.

Lindelof wrote the pilot for "Lost" with fellow executive producer J.J. Abrams, and Cuse joined the series in October 2004 shortly after the show debuted to big numbers.

In addition to its instant commercial success and large following, "Lost" has enjoyed strong critical acclaim, capped by a best drama series Emmy in 2005 and best drama series Golden Globe in 2006.

While the show's ratings have softened this season -- it is averaging 15.1 million viewers to date -- it is the most recorded show on TV, gaining 18% more viewers through DVR viewing. It is also a popular draw for streaming replays on ABC.com, iTunes downloads and DVDs.

The beginning, with Locke kicking all sorts of Others ass and taking names was great. If Locke sticks around, I think Ben has a real fight on his hands for control of the Others.

here's a screen cap of "jacob", who appeared for only a brief second during the cabin scene, when everything was fumbling around:

kinda looks, and sounded, like that guy from "the shawshank redemption" -- the american soldier who captured sayid, and the guy who was on the island when desmond got there.

That "guy" would be Clancy Brown, the voice of Lex Luthor in the Superman and JLU cartoons and one of the stars of Carnivale.

Personally, I don't think it looks that much like Brown, but who knows? At the same time, it could be that "Jacob" here is simply being played by a stand in, the way that the Emperor in "ESB" was originally played by one actor and then recast for "RotJ" and the prequels.

im pretty sure his name is 'that guy from "the shawshank redemption"', but whatever, ill give you that point. im tryin to find a shot of him from the side to compare, this is the best i can do:

definitely sounded like him though. and he's played at least two characters in the show already.

some other quick possible jacob theories:

1) that its a future desmond, trapped in a time loop

2) that its a future john locke, trapped in some sorta time loop (like desmond). that could explain why locke couldn't see him, and how they both "hate electronics"

3) ben DID make him up. but has the walt-like ability to imagine things and make them real -- possibly a power only granted to children, but locke grew up there, so the power never faded.

4) its that guy from the jungle who talked to ben as a kid, then told locke to find sawyer ... i think his name is richard. whatever the case, he doesnt age (sure, lets throw in time loop again)

I think he may be connected to the monster.
or that he may be some survivor of the crashed slave ship stuck in a "Last Crusade" type deal where he can't cross the sand barrier that Locke was inspecting or else he'll age.

Also on the "Last Crusade" angle, maybe it has to do with faith. Ben saying he "believed" someone was in that chair sounds a lot like Locke's speeches about faith in the island.

The name of the episode obviously referenced The Wizard of Oz, but there were a couple of Alice in Wonderland references too:

- Ben's mom was dressed like Alice when they met in the jungle.
- The white rabbit.
