I read this on another board and I'm leaving it to you expert snopesters to see if you can dig up any truths or untruths behind it.

Supposedly, the new Beastie Boys CD, in circulation everywhere but USA and EU, has Copy Protection that, when run on a Home Computer, runs an executable in the background that installs Drivers which make the ripping and copying of music files near impossible. Or...something like that. Here's the link the real story, it's details are still vague:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/23/beastie_boy_cd_virus/

Now, if this is true, that means that they are installing software, without consent of the user, that maliciously effects your computer's functionality. Which, I believe, is completly against the law.

Can anyone confirm or deny this with a better source? Someone that lives in the Countries were the CD is being distributed and has the patience to test it and remove it if it actually occurs would be a good start.

Lastly, if this is true, I would like to find out who's responsible and/or who's idea this is, so I can be sure to never purchase anything they work on *ever* again.

Thanks, and goodnight.
