If you've seen the widely watched video (check out youtube.com) of the wrestler we've loved/hated as Sycho Sid, Sid Vicious and Sid Justice ... with his leg snapping back into a position no leg is meant to contort into ... well, you'd never guess he'd still be wrestling.

But 47-year-old Sid, who as a softball player "never counted the homers unless they went off the light tower," is not only back in the ring, he wants to make one last run in WWE.

"This business needs me as bad as I need the business," he says over the phone. "I've got a helluva gimmick that's guaranteed to make them money. It would be the greatest comeback in not just wrestling, but in sports history.

Nobody has ever come back from a compound fracture two inches above the ankle."

The injury to Sid, a four-time world champ, came in a 2001 match against Scott Steiner. It came after WCW folks asked him to try a move he wanted no part of.

"Johnny Ace says, 'Why don't you try a flying knee off the second rope.' It was a stupid move. I said I didn't want to do it, but they said it was written in my contract. I came back three months early for the match. I still hadn't recovered from shoulder surgery. I couldn't hold my belt up ... I couldn't pull my wallet out of my pants. A knee off the second rope? I think a rake of the eyes would have had the same effect.

"I wasn't told the truth by my doctors for a long time. Finally, one doctor told me I may never walk again."

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of wrestling in ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Ottawa, Ontario at the Civic center for the Super Ex Showdown. The show itself had a few snags in that Bret Hart was to appear and sign autographs but due to a tornado or some such in the Chicago area was unable to make his connecting flight. A few people have asked "well why wasn't he on an earlier flight or in the day before?" The reason is because Bret was in Florida for his friend Bryan Adams's funeral that day and that flight was the only one available. Anyone who can find fault in that should seek help.

The show its self was quite well run from a backstage standpoint and the setup was top notch. With names like Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Pierre Carl Oulette, Greg Valentine, Coco B Ware, Kamala, Lanny Poffo, the fans in Ottawa really were spoiled. It's rare to see an independent show that goes to such lengths and all the thanks can go to Devon "Hannibal" Nicholson for putting this great show on. But the main purpose of my writing this is not to rehash the show which you can of course order here.

My opponent for the evening was none other than Psycho Sid Vicious. Having been out of the wrestling business for 4 years due to a terrible leg injury suffered in WCW when he jumped off the second rope and broke his leg horribly, I was expecting to see a guy who looked like he had taken some time off. Boy was I wrong. Sid came in in near perfect shape. At 6'10 and 305 pounds I was astounded at his physical presence. I mean, I know I am no superhuman nor overlarge by any means. But Sid almost made me feel like a child. Good thing I am a good cheater.

In truth I really was amazed at how well he has recovered and taken care of himself. I assure you it won't be long before you see him again on either WWE or TNA programming as he still has a magnetism that is incredible. The crowd at the Super Ex show went bananas for him. I mean his pop was good, not quite as good as mine, but close. Heh. I was really happy with the reactions we got for that match and was happy I could body slam his gigantic butt. I am stronger than I look. But alas I did come up short. Pun intended. For any fans of Sid out there I definitely recommend picking up the dvd of the show.

Some updates on the WrestleFanFest in San Francisco at the Cow Palace tomorrow:

- Kevin Nash issued a statement on his Web site noting that he and Scott Hall would not be appearing due to not receiving their contractually-promised deposit, according to PWInsider. WrestlingObserver.com says Nash was booked independent of the TNA office.

- PWInsider also writes that Ken Shamrock and Missy Hyatt are also not appearing, and WrestlingObserver.com says that Nick "U-Gene" Dinsmore said his flight arrangements got messed up.

- Steve Austin, Goldberg and Roddy Piper are being advertised, and it is believed Sid will be there.

- Also, PWInsider has confirmed that TNA talent including Team 3-D and Christian will be there. Angle was scheduled to be there but TNA's Bill Behrens issued this statement today:

Kurt Angle will not be able to attend the WrestleFanFest in San Francisco at the Cow Palace on Saturday 10/20 as promoted due to a stomach virus.

Promoter, Chris Salsbury, paid the full fee and bought Kurt's flights in advance and is in no way responsible.

Kurt Angle regrets having to miss this promoted appearance and apologizes to the promoter and to the fans.
