For those that don't watch RAW. Punk pulled an Edge on Edge and cashed in his MITB after Batista beat the crap out of Edge for awhile. He then successfully defended against, I think, JBL in the main event.

CM Punk is RAW's new champ.

CM Punk cannot play second fiddle in a thread dedicated to that lumbering beast, Mark Henry.

As far as your comments over there go, you are probably right about him being a transitional champ. I just wonder who he will drop it to. There aren't many heels for him to face on Raw. At this point, they really only have JBL as a "top" heel since Orton is injured. I guess they could do a face vs face angle with CM Punk being a fighting champion, but face vs face angles generally don't catch much fan interest.

He'll drop it to either Cena,or JBL in the near future.Since JBL is really the only main "heel" and competiton for Cena at Raw right now(I'm not counting Batista at the moment since he didn't win against Edge) and since they've really been pushing Cena to go over with the fans(still some booing going on but not as much),that's as good a guess as any.Punk was the only way after Night of Champions to logically bring the heavyweight title belt to Raw.

There is at least one other "top" heel on Raw, one Chris Jericho!
A program between him n Punk would work better than anyone else.

Also, I would not be overly surprised to see Batista turn heel in the near future!

Cena will be the next champion IMO!

Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me to see them put Punk into the ring with Snitsky. Snitsky dominate and, then, Punk pull the surprise win. Dear gob, they're going to book him like Mysterio.

Punk and Jericho would be awesome, but they first have to get through his feud with Michaels.

Personally, I would use last night to continue to rehash the old Cena/JBL feud and put Batista in line to face Punk for the title. The only question is whether Punk will be able to pull a good match out of Batista.

The funny thing is,when Jericho's music hit and he showed up,the crowd cheered. It took a lot of ranting from Jericho and some crowd insults to elicit boos.Jericho's been a face for a while and though usually, when a wrestler does a turn, the crowd turns nearly instantaneous, not so these days. Some wrestlers,it takes a while for a face turn to actually "take" with the fans.Hell,Cena is a prime example of that.So while Jericho's turn will eventually click,it'll be a little while yet. Also,Jericho vs. Punk would be a great match.

I think the whole angle Jericho is playing is a spot on indictment of how bad wrestling fans really were.
The simple fact is, had most wrestlers done what HBK did, the fans would have (rightly) turned on them, but because its HBK the fans continue to cheer.

When Y2J first started pointing out what a liar HBK was, the fans should have been behind Y2J, but they booed him.

The problem they have with Jericho is that he, like HBK, has an inbuilt fanbase, regardless of whether he is heel or face.
The only way to get people to boo him, is to put him up against someonw with a stronger fan support like HBK.

We saw it in their previous feud, where fans would cheer both.

Its getting harder and harder for WWE to lead the fans like they used to, as we have seen with Cena, but certain wrestlers do not need WWE pushes to get fan support!

I generally don't even try and keep up with the whole face/heel thing anymore. At least, I don't pay attention to what the WWE tells me they want me to do. I, more or less, take it on a match-by-match basis of pegging who takes the "lead" in the match as the "heel" for that match. The next match, it is all up in the air again.

Yeah, isn't it funny how when Michaels super-kicked Marty Janetty through a window on Brutus Beefcake's Barber Shop back all those years ago,he was immediately booed following said event and stayed a heel for a looooong time until his first title reign. Then a little back and forth but finally settling on being the good guy and now there isn't any way short of,I dunno, him spitting on the American flag or something for fans to turn on him.I don't think the WWE had plans for Jericho to have a face turn,I thought it'd be Michaels but since it didn't happen, they settled on Jericho. At any rate, like you said, the fans these days have a fave and it doesn't matter if it's face or heel, they're gonna cheer for 'em.

Well, now I've seen everything.

My name is Daffy Duck,
I worked on a Merry-Go-Round,
The job was swell
I think quite well
Till the Merry-go-round broke down.

The guy that worked with me,
Was a horse with a lavender eye,
Around in whirls, we'd wink at girls
Till the Merry-go-round broke down.

Up and down and around it we sped,
That dizzy pace soon went to my head,
Now you know why I'm dizzy
And do the things I do
I am assumin' you'd be too
If the Merry-go-round broke down.
