Don't be silly. Snarf is too chicken to PM a girl. Or talk to one. Or look at one. Or have any kind of contact with one at all.

A young couple are beating the credit crunch by getting married for just £597.29.

With the average cost of a wedding recently reported to have topped £20,000, Odette Fenwick and Chris May were determined not to let theirs break the bank.

Odette,19, told the Daily Mirror: "I would've liked a big wedding but it's too expensive. It's better like this as we've enjoyed the bargain hunting."

She bought her dress online from eBay for £52, while second-hand rings for the pair cost £19.

Odette and Chris, 21, are laying on £40 worth of Iceland food for close family at the reception - in the garage door showroom where Chris works - but other guests have been asked to bring their own.

Instead of champagne to toast the newlyweds, they will be drinking 89p-a-bottle Chardonnay.

The couple, from Ilfracombe in Devon, have even persuaded a radio station to loan them a car for their 16 August register office ceremony and a local newspaper photographer will take pictures.

Odette said: "I am looking forward to the big day. Then with the money we save we are hoping to move into our first home in October. I'd consider a posh second wedding one day if we can afford it but it wouldn't be half as much fun.

"The best bargain is my dress. It has never been worn and a perfect fit. It's as if it was made for me."

Chris added: "I'm so happy I don't mind what sort of wedding it is."

I am confounded at the stinginess of some institutions and some people. I'm bewildered by it. You can only put away so much stuff in your closet.

I have taken roads that I wished I had not traveled on. And I'm traveling on some pretty exciting ones, too.
Paul Newman

I try to acknowledge that by giving back something to those to whom luck has been brutal.

But really I think one of the delights in my life is to go to these camps and see the staff members who, I think, are some of are the best part of America, who are who care for people who are less fortunate than they are.
Paul Newman

Whenever I'm in the dumps, I come up here and it reaffirms everything that I think is really good and generous about this country.
Paul Newman

That's half the delight of it. And the royalties that I get from the business and the profits after charity I can give away.
Paul Newman

Why not, really, go to the fullest length, and the silliest length, in exploiting yourself and turn the proceeds back to the community?
Paul Newman

I respect generosity in people, and I respect it in companies too, I don’t look at it as philanthropy; I see it as an investment in the community.
