In all seriousnessity, though, Palin isn't answering most of the questions asked of her. She's making points, yes, but when asked what her administration would do, she avoids the question.

If you're going to stand there and preach about how much Americans want straight talk, maybe you should give us some.

They both did the exact same thing the whole night. My thoughts....

-Palin did great and she showed she is tough and she will make the base happy with her performance tonight.

-Ifill did a very fair job moderating and no one will criticize her for a job well done.

-I wish Joe Biden was at the top of the ticket. I have criticized him a lot in the past but I actually found him to be very likeable.

Actually, she's made a couple comments on tax plans she and McCain plan to implement.

Biden, on the other hand, was avoiding that area of discussion. Concentrating on Bush as much as possible, trying to associate taxcuts with a largely unpopular president.

I totally agree with Pete on this one.

Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

What I was angry about is that she didn't acknowledge that the economy grew exponentially under Bush in defense against Biden's comment about how his policies allegedly destroyed the economy. She could have mentioned that as an aside without pairing herself up with Bush. If she and McCain plan to run with Bush's taxcuts, they need to emphasize their successes without confusing that policy as being associated with the crash.

Are you talking about early in the debate when the mod asked them about deregulation?

Yes, that's when he made his 'Bush destroyed the economy comment,' but Palin brought up cutting taxes later on in the debate and he didn't respond to it as his previously exposed interest in the subject dictates he should have.

To amend, I can't confirm that he was avoiding it. But the fact that Palin mentioned it and he didn't jump on it seemed dubious to me.

What's next from bsams:

I think that one guy from CNN had it right. Palin, like Obama and McCain, did a good job of energizing her base. Conservatives will love her performance, and every conservative who's posted tonight is proof of that. In my opinion, though, all three failed to do what they should have done. None of them did enough to help catch that independent and undecided vote.

I think Biden gave the performance of a lifetime. This is the best I've ever seen him.

Actually quick polling that's come out so far supports what Jason said. Biden did very well. I wouldn't put alot of weight into such quick polling but I can say Biden didn't energize the base like Obama & Palin did. He was a safe choice that made sense at the time. I think he raised the bar on that tonight though.

I see another boost for the Obama/Biden ticket after tonight. I'll be the first to admit that Palin did a good job of energizing the base. What she needed to do, though, was show us that she was ready to be Vice President, though. That's what the media is hitting her on. Last week, for example, Obama did a fair job of projecting the "ready to lead" image.

She showed us all the qualities that Republicans love. She showed that she "personable" and "real". She showed her conservative hockey momishness.

Say what you will, but the far right may have had their issues with McCain, but they weren't going to vote for Obama anyway. I said it when McCain announced her as his VP choice and I was treated like a scared liberal. I'll say it again, though. In the end, I doubt she'll garner too many votes that weren't going to sway right anyway.

Yeah, politically, I can't stand Biden. As a person, however, he's definitely the most likeable of the male candidates. I'd love to have a beer with the guy.

Palin didn't have to show "you" anything. You are going to vote for Obama no matter what. She had to show Hillary voters, moderates and independents that she is smart and ready to lead and she did that.

As I said before and it still holds true, where I work there are numerous female workers who werent going to vote after Hilary got shafted, that have expressed support for McCain now. They haven't changed their tune, and the attacks on Palin's smarts while ignoring Biden's has energized them. This is a small sample for sure, but it's in Ohio, in the midwest, and I'm sure it has to be representative of a lot more.
