I know we are weeks away since the awards went out, but I still have one thing that really bothers me.

Out of all the WTF were they thinking awards went out over the years this years Outstanding Lead Actors in a Comedy Series.

How the fuck did that shitbag beat both Larry David and Alec Baldwin?

Both Curb and 30 Rock are far and away better series than that Big Bang shit.

I gave Big Bang a chance too. It's safe generic sitcom dogshit.

No new ground being broken there. Both 30 Rock and Curb are fresh and brilliantly written season after season.

I'm pretty new to 30 Rock too, only having started watching it about a half a year ago.

I think I'm done with the major awards shows. Completely.

My passing interest has turned into no interest.

It was CBS's turn for an award. See, each major network "donates" so much money to the judges, who then pick a balanced selection of winners based on the income they receive. CBS had their constant win, Everybody Loves Raymond, for years and years. Once that ended, they decided to transfer the wins to this new sitcom. Money passes hands, and there you go: second verse, same as the first...

not pressing a left wing liberal media slant, but... i think award shows are pretty pro gay. or minority. or handicapped. or foreign. or dying / sick. or anything non-mainstream.

30 rock and curbed started out as offbeat shows, and got all the acclaim for it, but now they're just ongoing successes (in the eyes of worthless award shows). big bang is godawful, but in that company, it's become the dark horse with jim as the pink jockey. seems pretty reward-targeted.

for the record, i hate award shows. but now hate them more than ever because of this year's emmys. not just because of the above nonsense, or cuz lost got completely shut out (in a similar relation to the above nonsense) but because, at one point, they were handing out an award to another award! i forget what it was for (writing for a special episode, or something?) but the fucking grammys won an emmy! fuck you! it's bad enough the hollywood world is inventing new ways to congratulate one another all the time, but now they're congratulating the congratulation process!

All cbs comedies have laugh tracks that make them unfunny.

I hope community gets better ratings than the show with bad geek sterotypes.

People, including critics, keep talking about how incredibly funny "Big Bang" is. I watched a couple of episodes but really couldn't see much, if anything, amusing about it. It was so bad I'd actually watch a marathon of the Charlie Sheen show first.

It's because it's a "nerd/geek/cult" sitcom, written with the express intent to be a "nerd/geek/cult" sitcom, but written by a mainstream, vanilla committee. The reason people like it is because it's a sanitized, romanticized version of how they perceive the "nerd/geek" culture. It's clean enough for Christians, sweet enough for the elderly, and due to justifying repetitive "nerd/geek/cult" stereotypes, gives social-norm comforting for the tragically oblivious...

That explains why middle American haus fraus like it. It doesn't explain why so many otherwise "edgy" critics, many of whom I'd wager are nerds or geeks, like it so much.

I was just talking about how shit Big Bang Theory is. The worst part is that it's making some people turn into nerd posers. Fuck you, you're not a nerd! I've been collecting comics for 20 years, motherfucker! Tell me Hawkman's secret identity! TELL ME!

Yeah, and your "edgy" critics are still swayed by money, their bosses, and their own lack of "edge" in their normal, day-to-day life, which pulls them into the romanticized nature of the stereotype the show portrays...

If money was such a deal breaker with critics why aren't they equally-if not more-enamoured of other shows like 2 1/2 Men, CSI and Dancing with the Stars? And if it was that easy to buy an emmy, why didn't ABC-which is loaded_get a few wins for Lost this year?

Because this season of lost was one of the worst pieces of shit ever to be shown on television.

But if Pro's theory about buying Emmys for crappy shows was right (remember this whole conversation stared with wondering how a POS siticom could win) that shouldn't have mattered.

Also, G-Man, I apologize for not being at any and every meeting where who would get what Emmy for how much money and why only certain shows do and don't, nor do I have a link to any of the "news" sites to corroborate my position. Still interested in "discussing" it, or do you need to re-review the transcript from some previous online conversation or something?

I think you are reading a much more argumentative tone into my remarks than was intended. If I gave that impression I apologize. My intent was simply to discuss your point and why I doubted money had much to do with it.

Anyway, as with every point I ever make, 75% is factual, and 25% is simply gut instinct. Whether it's money or favors or friendship or what, I doubt the awards are picked due to material, art, and merit. At least, most all of them are not. But, then, I lean a lot more paranoid than you, anyway....
