I think it might also be Hush. So far the films have been loosely based on The Bat-Man classics: BB is Year One, DK is Killing Joke and The Long Halloween. What's next? Apparently Hush isn't that good (never read it), but it's still an important storyline. I doubt they'll go with crossovers like Knightsend or No Man's Land; it's gotta be something self-contained that Nolan can read as a "graphic novel" on the airport without being embarassed.

Whatever storyline they go with, I bet the movie will take at least a couple of plot points from DKR.

they should title it the dark knight returns unless they are ever planning to adapt Miller's story on film... how cool would it be to have Nolan and Miller adapt that together?

Interesting about the Jim Gordon subplot. I imagine the run-in with Two-Face probably caused a divorce. Or he's cheating...

That would seem to rule out Catwoman, then.

If Farmiga (the Departed, Up in the Air) wasn't auditioning for Julie, I'd be more inclined to think the Madison character could be a minor babe and not the main love interest. She's not super-famous but she's definitely on the Katie Holmes or Maggie Ghylenhall (sp?) level so I figure the part's at least as big as Rachael's.

Of course, this could all be a Nolan fake-out and they're all really up for Catwoman.

I'd like to see Talia al Ghul and Catwoman...you'd get the flirty/sexual tension stuff, but also two badass bat-villains....Talia would have Wayne's resources and Selina would have his cunning.

Plus, you know there'd be a catfight!

I've never understood the narrative appeal of Talia beyond "hot psuedo Bond chick." I realize that some writers have tried to make her some sort of evil mastermind in her own right but, really, her whole function was to be this damsel in distress who tempted Batman and further conflicted the dynamic with Ras.

A "last temptation of Batman" thing with Catwoman trying to lure him to the dark side could work without being a romance.

Several interviews have Nolan saying that he's actually working towards an end to the Batman story instead of the regular feeding an unending amount of sequels like most movie/comic franchises.

Is there a comic book movie franchise that's gone more than four films without a reboot or remake? The only one I think of, arguably, is Superman...simply because Singer obviously wanted his movie to be a sequel to the first two Donner films....but even then you need to assume that Superman 3 and 4 were retconned away (and, therefore, there was a reboot there too).

In fact, the only unending franchise I can think of outside of crappy horror movies and Japanese monsters is Bond.

Yeah, but Bond went forty years before that unless you go with theory (and I don't, sorry Pro) that every new actor = reboot.

Not even between Connery and Brosnan? I always thought each new actor was a reboot for the era. Otherwise, it wouldn't make any logical sense. Not just because he looks different, either. But, to have Bond being active for forty-years and still look young, it stretches internal logic. I admit, it wasn't the overhaul of style and all that Daniel Craig brought. But, each one feels like a soft-reboot...

Bond works on comic book time. The era may change but it's still the same hero. But as far as all that goes I would say it should go from Lazenby to Dalton at least. With each of the actors in between referencing either Blofeld and/or his dead wife. If they were rebooting the character they wouldn't have continued to bring that stuff up. But i do understand how you see it.

Godzilla Beeyotches..........

How can you forget Godzilla? Only recently rebooted in the past 20 years or so...His suit did have slight changes and adaptations, but still the same monster. You can argue that terror of Mechagodzilla in the mid 70s was the last Godzilla film, but continuity basically stayed the same even after the 1985 Return of Godzilla. So, even if true Godzilla ran from 1956-1975 continuously...and then from 1985 to modern times....
