Why, yes, it is.
April 25, 2011

Although the PlayStation Network went down on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, Xbox Live is still up and kicking. So while PS3 owners are unable to play online, download games and do anything else related to the PSN or PlayStation Store, you're fine if you own both consoles or just a 360.

Here's a list of things you can still do:

•Download recently released Xbox Live Arcade games like The Fancy Pants Adventures

•Use Netflix

•Fire up party chat and catch up with your friends

•Try out the Gears of War 3 beta

•Play Mortal Kombat and Portal 2 with friends

•Compare Achievements or leaderboard positions

•Sleep soundly knowing that your credit card information is safe (for the moment anyway)

•Know that if Xbox Live ever goes down, there's a good chance you'll get a free Xbox Live Arcade game

Well, it's good to know that it's not having a repeat of inaccessibility for almost two weeks like it did a couple years back.

Not through a breach in Live's security.

But if it was compromised on that network, wouldn't that mean exactly that its security failed?

Keep in mind, I'm only using the logic anyone else is applying to this situation when they say Sony is completely at fault for getting hacked.

I, personally, acknowledge that not a single network is safe, and so I'd never attach my credit cards to any of my consoles.

What about you JLA? Did you attach your credit card to your XBL account?

No.

Some gullible fool falling for a phishing scam is not Micro$oft's fault.

I can't believe (yes I can) that you are equating Sony's entire network getting hacked to dumbasses who willingly give away their private info to phishers.

Actually, what I'm equating it to is every other example of personal information being compromised because people trusted the idea behind such a network too much.

You for example, have complete faith in XBL. This policy of trust will bite you in the ass one day. I personally know the risks of putting my information on such a network. I'm sorry that you don't.

If the network is rife with scams, then it's not safe. If it's not safe, then the administrators aren't keeping it safe. This is the same exact shit that Sony is getting grilled for but on a grander scale.

Meaning you either a) agree with my principle of not attaching private info to a gaming console or b) well...

Once again, you're not so good on the double speak. The argument is that Microsoft isn't responsible for someone willingly giving away their own information to a third party, even if it was on their network. They are only responsible for the security of the information that they've collected and stored. He's not saying that it couldn't or won't happen to Microsoft like it did to Sony. He's just pushing your buttons in regards to this situation because you are a fool and fall for it every time.

I think it's great how you're trying to turn the tables on me for JLA's sake (as well as your own unshakable faith in Microsoft), but you (and him) are going out of your way to ignore my point about not trusting these networks in general. If your information gets stolen on a network you trust, then the theft is taking place on the watch of the company that provided the venue.

So who's pushing buttons here? The XBL users who feel XBL can be trusted or the resident Sony faithful who knows that no network can ever be trusted in the midst of hackers.

Nice try though Doc.

I never said that that point wasn't valid. I'm just pointing out that you weren't fairing so well and tried a G-man style switch-a-roo of what your point was. JLA's just fucking with you because you're a Playstation Sony zombie.

Actually, I'm doing quite well. Because nobody who uses XBL will ever be able to reconcile the fact that they put their information on a network they can't account for.

Yeah but, Timmy Sullivan, a 12 year old Halo fanatic, just fell for a phishing scam while playing Halo 3.

That is much worse than Sony's entire online service getting hacked, and I find Bill Gates to be personally responsible.

G-Pariah Tard III

 Quote:
Congress questions Sony on hacked PlayStation network

A congressional subcommittee has sent a letter to Sony Corp. seeking information about a security attack on PlayStation’s online network by hackers last week.

Addressed to Sony Chairman Kazuo Hirai, the letter requested answers to a detailed list of questions regarding the breach, which exposed the personal information and possibly credit card data of 77 million customer accounts.

The letter, written by the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trading, addresses a number of security concerns, including when the breach occurred, how much data was stolen and why Sony waited a week before it notified customers.

The letter demanded specifics on the kind of information the hackers stole and assurances that no credit card data was swiped.

“Given the amount and nature of the personal information known to have been taken, the potential harm that could be caused if credit card information was also taken would be quite significant,” the letter said.

The subcommittee set a May 6 deadline for a reply.

Sony’s admission has drawn a firestorm of anger from customers and lawmakers alike. Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) on Wednesday compared the breach to thieves playing the video game Grand Theft Auto with highly sensitive personal information.

The PlayStation network has been down for almost two weeks and it’s unclear when the service will be fully revived.

Sony could not immediately be reached for comment.

Yeah, but it could happen to Microsoft.

So.....Does this mean the situation with the personal info has escalated on Sony's end or is mentioning congress supposed to justify you giving your financial information to Microsoft?
