I have to admit, I like the angular sleeves and jazzed-up boots.

Thoughts?

Lee Bermejo can do no wrong. Why so few people know about him(and use him) is completely beyond me.

That's gorgeous.

Unfortunately not, and for THAT you can blame the likes of Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen.

I like it. It's a slimmer version than what most people draw today, and I prefer that. Really cool pic.

Well, he's currently written as an abused spouse with the brains of a flea and the courage of Chicken Little. I don't think that would be a reason to smile.

Now the classic Superman of yore, the badass James T. Kirk in tights that he used to be, THERE'S a guy with every reason to be happy.

He was one of the first signees of Jim Lee's Wildstorm era, so most of his work has been for that line. Most recently, he did the Batman/Deathblow mini-series with Brian Azzarello, and he did an issue of Warren Ellis's Global Frequency(#9, I believe). He did a 2 issue arc in Hellblazer with Mike Carey, called "Black Flowers"(#182 and #183), and a 2 issue arc in the old Gen13 series with Adam Warren(#43 and #44). He also did the Superman/Gen13 crossover(written by Adam Hughes) a few years ago.

Most of his other stuff has been covers. Adventures of Superman, Action Comics, Superman, Man of Steel, etc.

Oh, please. Blaming a "non-smiling Superman" (whatever that means) on two of the most ground-breaking projects to ever come out in the industry is silly.

The fact that those were written almost TWENTY YEARS ago makes it ridiculous.

If you want to blame anything for the "dark and somber" characters, look in the 90's. That decade is riddled with them, in the silliest of ways. Don't just fall back on that same, single-minded excuse of Watchmen/DKR ruined anything. If nothing else, they set the bar for storytelling.

Sweet, thanks, I'll have to look those up.

By the way, here's what Bermejo's updated Superman suit looks like in color:

Does anyone think this look could work in live-action? I think the angular sleeves and updated boots would look great on film.

I don't like that one as much. Bermejo's stuff has always looked better uncolored. That makes it look too robotic, with the squared shaped limbs/muscles. Not to mention the gleams, which give it a metallic look.

I'ts good but he looks too Batman and the setting and art itself gives off too much of a "Batman" impression. I don't like seeing that on Superman really.
