I haven't watched Letterman in years. He's just gotten old and does the same jokes over and over. isn't difficult to tell how and what he's doing without watching? I think if CBS wants to compete, it's time to get some new blood at 11:30. Perhaps bump Craig Ferguson up or just hire someone off of SNL or something. the 11:30 talk show block has been fulfilled by carson, leno, and letterman for decades. and as much as i loathe leno, the numbers clearly state he was a powerhouse in the timeslot. hardly a field that welcomes "new blood" (for a recent example: conan's decreasing ratings). i'm a long-time conan fan, but i'm still not sure if he's the right fit for something as mainstream as the tonight show. i've watched much of the first few episodes, and while i do like them, i feel there's something ... i dunno. "sell outty" about them. in this specific instance of letterman vs. conan, the (tremendous!) advantage CBS has is the experience and brand name dave brings to the game. dave essentially invented his show, in both the 12:30 NBC and 11:30 CBS spot. that's a pretty bold strength. personally, i think letterman was at his best in the first few years when he moved to cbs, which, holy fuck, is 15+ years ago. the hope is he'll recapture that with the "new wars". judging from his episodes in the last few months, and the two new shows thus far this week, there's absolutely an evident new push in the great direction. there's an edginess to dave's show that is awesome. it has nothing to do with age, its just a timeless and irreplaceable aspect of him. leno was the opposite; a mainstream whore (and a shithead). to his credit, that made for higher ratings, though significantly worse critical opinion. conan had some of that edginess in the "no holds barred" 12:30 slot (that dave basically created) but it hasn't shown up (yet) in his tonight show role. if he takes leno's route, it's likely he'll get better ratings. though just as likely it'll again mean a worse show.

I've watched the first week of shows on Hulu and for the most part they've been great. I usually skip the interviews when stupid cunts start kissing obamas ass or they're boring as hell. The first friday show was fucking hilarious.

As for the Shat, I've been downloading all the new episodes. But, my perfectly legal sources have only posted episodes through Larry David's appearance on Tuesday. Dammit. I didn't know The Shat was on there. I wish they would hurry up and catch me up...

Conan O'Brien hits head during 'Tonight' stunt LOS ANGELES – Conan O'Brien hit his head during a stunt for the "Tonight Show" on Friday and the production was halted, NBC said.
O'Brien was being examined Friday at a hospital. The network declined comment on his condition or whether he had been released.
O'Brien issued a statement through NBC that indicated he was treating the incident lightly.
"Last thing I remember I was enjoying the play with Mrs. Lincoln, and the next thing I knew I was in bed being served cookies and juice" O'Brien said in the statement.
The 46-year-old comedian took over the "Tonight" host's job from Jay Leno in June.
O'Brien's accident recalled a rare absence by Leno that came toward the end of his 17 years with the show, when a high fever and unspecified illness caused him to check himself into a hospital for a day.
NBC canceled two episodes of "Tonight" when that occurred in May. Leno's new daily prime-time comedy show debuted this month.
There was no word from NBC on plans for next week's shows.
NBC's decision to remove the top-rated Leno from "Tonight" and replace him with O'Brien, hoping to draw a younger audience, put pressure on the new host's shoulders.
The network's creation of a daily prime-time series for Leno, displacing five hours of scripted shows, was another bold move
