I don't want Hamlet from GI Joe. I want GI Joe from GI Joe. this ain't it.

minor spoilage ahead from the toyline.

Cobra Commander has a transparent see through mask. Whut? What the fuck is the point of a mask that other people can see through? that's almost Snarfian in design.

According to the bio on Destro's figure, Destro becomes disfigured and his face is turned to metal by nanite tech. Whut? did these fuckers watch the first FF movie, see Doom, and go "yeah, that's it. . ."

The cobra commander thing could be a pre-final version of him, like they did with the transformers alien looking versions for the first movie.

I'm still somewhat hopeful about this movie. I'm going in with no expectations at all.

The movie has been getting solid reviews. Fun, explosions, action, more fun, etc.

Supposedly as fun or better than the first Transformers movie-which also, pre-screening, shat on everyone's youth.

Apparently everyone does a good job and it doesn't stop long enough for you to get time to judge the plot or anything-It's a non stop roller coaster.

Think of this GI Joe as a combination of everything GI Joe from 1982-2009 with some new stuff thrown in, and there you have it.

Rotten Tomatoes

Apparently not screening this widely was a mistake unless they were tweaking this bitch until the very end...and fixed all the shit people didn't like.

Well, that's good. That almost makes up for the fact that there's no Shipwreck in the movie.

Anyway, if this movie does well enough for a sequel, they should cast Jeremy and Jason London as Tomax and Xamot.

I caught a early viewing of the movie tonight and shipwreck was in the movie. He only had one piece of dialogue, it was in the meeting room after a night out drinking. This is what he said:

Warning, Spoiler:

While it didn't go absolutely badly (she smiled when she talked to me), I couldn't even get her name, much less anything else. Which leads me to ask "What the fuck is wrong with me?" My friend Nicole tried to cheer me up with "Maybe there's something wrong with her", which I suppose would make sense, except for the fact that EVERY woman that I've ever been interested in romantically/ sexually has rejected me in some form or another, leading me to believe that it's me there's something wrong with and not the entire female gender. For the past 15 minutes I've been trying to stop crying, and I haven't been entirely successful.

All I've ever wanted was someone to be in love with, and have that same person be in love with me, and I'm starting to realize that that is never going to happen.

Paramount Pictures waves the flag for 'G.I. Joe'
  • Paramount Pictures gave the movie its homeland premiere at the base for Air Force One, flying out its stars Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller and Marlon Wayans for a helicopter tour, meetings with the base commander and airmen, and a red carpet replete with paparazzi and billowing American flags.

Launching the film to a military audience is just one part of a highly atypical marketing and publicity campaign for "G.I. Joe," which opens nationwide and in most foreign markets this Friday. Paramount is sidestepping the traditional Hollywood showcase and courting of the national print media in favor of taking the picture directly to America's heartland.

"G.I. Joe" is embedded in the Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd concert tour, advertised at the Country Music Television Awards and excerpted on giant video screens at Minnesota's Mall of America. It is bombarding Kansas City, Charlotte, Columbus and Grand Rapids on new digital billboards.

The subtext is none too subtle: Critics are likely to roast the film, and fanboys of the original toy line and comic book may be indifferent, but if you're a flag-waving, Nascar-loving American, it's practically your patriotic duty to see this movie.

Yet overseas, where big action films often earn 60% or more of their ticket sales, rah-rah American sentiment doesn't play well. So those references have vanished from the advertising.

European marketing, rather, focuses on action sequences set in Paris -- where the Eiffel Tower collapses -- Egypt and Tokyo, and emphasizes that G.I. Joe is an international team of crack operatives and not some Yankee soldier.

When it comes to selling "G.I. Joe" outside the U.S., the message is "this is not a George Bush movie -- it's an Obama world," director Stephen Sommers said.

I wonder how many times the director made that crack during the "heartland" tour to promote the film.

Maybe it's just the way I'm reading it, but this comment plays like a not-too-subtle dig at the people to which the writer is referring.

SPOILER: At the end of the film, Cobra is virtually wiped out, but the President visits the Cobra compound and apologizes to them for the actions of GI Joe. Then he bails them out economically, setting up the sequel.

'G.I. Joe' Bans Print Critics in N.Y., LA, and Maybe Everywhere in U.S.
  • This voicemail message just in from a Paramount rep: "We are not screening 'G.I. Joe' for critics -- broadcast critics or print critics -- in New York and Los Angeles. We are targeting more for the Middle American heartland for this movie...'' So does that mean they're screening it in Omaha? Paramount didn't return my followup calls. Last week, you may recall, the studio vehemently denied a report in New York Magazine that the film wouldn't be screened and insisted it would be. The film has been shown to undemanding fanboy bloggers (it's currently rating 88 at Rotten Tomatoes), to dubiously credential British reviewers and jaded junketeers on both sides of the Atlantic (star Sienna Miller feels Decca Aitkenhead's pain). It was premiered last week at an Army base in Maryland. There's a promo screening Thursday night in Manhattan. Presumably critics will be shot on sight.

Update: A quote in an AP story that just moved seems to indicate the flick might not be screening for print critics anywhere in the U.S. With a reported budget of $175 million, that would make it the biggest movie to bypass mainstream reviews (even "Ghost Rider'' technically screened in advance, if only the night before opening). "'G.I. Joe' is a big, fun, summer event movie -- one that we've seen audiences enjoy everywhere from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland to Phoenix, Ariz.," AP quoted Paramount bigshot Rob Moore, as spinning. "After the chasm we experienced with 'Transformers 2' between the response of audiences and critics, we chose to forgo opening-day print and broadcast reviews as a strategy to promote 'G.I. Joe.' We want audiences to define this film." In this day and age, audiences aren't stupid. They know why studios don't show movies to critics -- they're lousy. And bad reviews didn't exactly hurt "Transformers,'' so that seems like a specious argument to me.

This will definitely get bad reviews now. The press is already having a hissy fit, so no matter how good or bad it is I'm sure they have their negative review already written.

Fuck the critics.

Bunch of wannabe filmmaking art school wannabe pieces of plankton shit.

Half the time they set these fuckers up in nice theaters that have big leather seats.

They buy them pop corn and a blow job.

This time they have to buy their own ticket, so they cry.

Wah! Who will buy them their Pepsi?

They gave a free screening to soldiers at an airbase, and another for a Hasbro charity.

The critics can eat me.

This is true, I managed to get into a press screening of Transfomers 2 and they gave me bagels, coffee, and a drugged 20 year old girl tied to a bed.

I still gave a bad review. In my diary.
