Last night I watched Robocop and was surprised how well the effects held up.

Robocop is and will always be awesome. Especially the director's cut. I watched the Criterion Collection DVD. It was an extended directors cut or something. All the brutal killing edited back in. Awesome.

I bought an early(ish) set that came out in 2002, with all three films in it, but it includes the theatrical and directors cut of the first one.

Yeah, there were some good concepts and the lead actor was a talented guy.
But the story had a few serious structural weaknesses (and petered out at the end) and some of the supporting performances verged on anti-semitism/self-loathing judaism.
In addition, how many more movies do we need about 50s-60s suburbia hiding a dark underbelly?

Series one is probably the weakest as they were finding their feet.
Edmund was a sniveling wretch in that one, but everything after that he was a true bastard. Still cowardly, but in a much cooler way.
Series 2 is the best by a long shot, and essential viewing.
I wasnt overly impressed with series 3 initially, but it has certainly grown on me over time to the point that I really like it.
I think its cause it just had so much to live up to following the classic that was series 2.
Series 4 was great. While still not as good as series 2, it was certainly a lot more instant than series 3.
The two one offs (Back and forth and Christmas carol are ok, but not essential viewing.

Except in series 3. Only doctor house dies there. Which was always one of the never explained elements of the show. How did all the characters have descendants when they never had children and died young. Obviously its not the sort of show where you worry about stuff like that, but its still something interesting in the scheme of things. I mean, does this mean Snarf will have descendants?
