hm, i can mostly agree -- there's definitely a hint of jim carey in terms of trying to switch to non-comedies, though i don't think sandler's movies have ever gone that far. mostly, they're comedies that just go really, really wrong. moreso like "shallow hal"s reveal (spoilers! it's not a comedy anymore!)

i also think robin williams' roles in dead poet's society, one hour photo, insomnia, and good will hunting, amongst others, prove he's a great acting talent beyond comedies. likely one of the few to make it out of the typecast.
