Toy Story 3 in the Works?
Source: Moviehole Sunday, September 5, 2004

Moviehole visited Disneyland and talked to the folks behind the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command animated series who revealed that a third "Toy Story" movie is indeed in the works.

There's movement on a "Toy Story 3". The troops behind the 'Buzz Lightyear' show know a bit about it, pointing out that it'll be happening at a different camp and that it is in the planning stages (pre-production?) and definitely theatrical.

The first two films were created by Pixar which has not renewed its distribution deal with Disney. The last two films in the deal include The Incredibles and Cars.

Does this mean Pixar will have nothing to do with it?

Toy story 2 is one of my favorite movies. It was a lot better than the first, and I loved the first one.

Toy Story Sequels
Further adventures of Woody and Buzz?

October 06, 2004 - Disney CEO Michael Eisner has revealed that the company will create two additional installments in the Toy Story franchise. NY Newsday has a report from a Goldman Sachs investment conference in Manhattan where Eisner said, "We're doing two 'Toy Stories' at once."

The partnership between Disney and Pixar terminates after the release of Cars in 2005, and the Mouse will be free to make sequels of their own.

A Disney spokeswoman expanded on Eisner's comments, telling the paper, "They're working on different story ideas with the hopes there will be a Toy Story 3 and another after that." A Pixar spokeswoman declined to comment.

Online reports have hinted that the story for the sequel(s) may be derived from the ending of the original treatment for Toy Story, which tells what happens to the toys when Andy grows up. In the original treatment, the toys find a permanent home in a preschool, where there will always be children to play with.

I'm thinking Pixar's playing hardball and will eventually ink a deal with Disney. They might be just waiting for CEO Michael Eisner to step down in 2006.

Disney Booting Up 'Toy Story 3'
By Sheigh Crabtree and Gregg Kilday

Walt Disney Studios is actively proceeding with a second sequel to Pixar Animation's "Toy Story" franchise, a move that could make it more difficult for the two companies to extend their rocky relationship.

Disney is in the process of setting up a digital animation facility in Glendale -- not far from the digs of its bitter rival DreamWorks Animation -- that will be used for the production of "Toy Story 3."

While Disney has the rights to do sequels to "Toy Story," it has held off from doing so in the past, in part in deference to Pixar CEO Steve Jobs and executive VP John Lasseter, both of whom haven't wanted to lose control of the characters.

But with Pixar announcing earlier this year that it would end its distribution relationship with Disney following the 2005 release of the Lasseter-directed "Cars," Disney CEO Michael Eisner and studio head Dick Cook have signaled their determination to bring Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the gang back to the big screen.

The project falls under the aegis of David Stainton, president of Walt Disney Feature Animation. Andrew Millstein, who headed the company's now-shuttered animation facility in Orlando, also is involved and has begun the process of recruiting animation heavyweights from rival animation studios and effects shops.

Neither Disney nor Pixar would comment.

We've had 1 and 2.

How about Pixar work on some new concepts and ideas?

They can't. Disney owns the rights to that movie also. Same with Pixar's next movie, Cars.

Didja not read this thread? Pixar and Disney is split up. Disney is doing this movie on their own.

Disney doing Pixer characters on their own???

Well, it'll just make Pixar look that much better. Disney hasn't had a pulse for years.

Well,Disney and Pixar have cut ties with each other,so that pretty much rules out the possibility of a "Toy Story 3".Ergo,this story must be a hoax.

No, it doesn't rule it out. Disney owns the rights to make sequels. Disney is also creating their own computer animation studio. It's all in this thread.

Lilo and Stitch seems like an echo of Disney past, running on the fumes. It's pretty much a pumped up TV animation movie. Still pretty damn funny, but not inspired, like Disney's past.

Who Wants Toy Story 3?

Quote:

Report claims Pixar-less pic can't land director, stars.

January 27, 2005 - According to Fox 411, Disney may be having trouble getting Toy Story 3 off the ground, despite its recent announcement that the sequel's plot has now been decided upon.

"My sources in the animation biz tell me that Disney, which will make Toy Story 3 without Pixar, cannot find a director to guide the project," says Fox News columnist Roger Friedman. His source claims that, "Every single animator of note has turned down the director's job. They don't want to cross Pixar. They've become the only deal in town."

So Disney's reported solution will be to hire a new animation team to simply recreate Pixar's distinctive look.

Fox 411 adds that it's also uncertain whether Toy Story stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively. Hanks will likely not return but Allen might, Friedman suggests.

I love how no one wants to cross Pixar. I wonder if this will force Disney to try to negotiate a deal with Pixar?
Hanks is a dumbass if he doesn't return. He desperately needs another hit movie.

What? You can't do Toy Story 3 without Pixar. I'll be surprised if this does make it off the ground.

    Toy Story 3 Update
    Dis divulges Story details.
    by IGN FilmForce
August 3, 2005 - The outcome of recently renewed negotiations between Disney and Pixar is still up in the air, but the Mouse is set on moving ahead with Toy Story 3, with or without the CG-animation studio that created the franchise.

Disney has just released the first story details on the next installment in the hit film series at the computer animation trade show SIGGRAPH.

According to a report on the Jim Hill Media website, the Disney booth has a Toy Story 3 display with this plot summary: "After a major malfunction, Buzz Lightyear is recalled to a toy factory in Taiwan. Woody and the gang have to hightail it halfway around the world to save Buzz before he dissembled forever."

The story for Story 3 was developed by Jared Stern, a participant in Disney's feature animation story development program. There's no word yet on whether or not he'll actually write the script.

Disney, who are in the process of setting up their own digital animation unit in Glendale, California, hopes to lure talented animators to their studio at the trade show.

Their second non-Pixar CG film, Chicken Little, opens on November 4th.
