You see? She has used a capital 'I' on the misspelled "Im"... thus proving that she is not an alternate ID of one Robert J. Kamphausen. For, we all know that 'Rob', as he is known in these circles - does not use capital letters.

Elementary!

I just finished watching an all-region, subtitled, un-cut version of Jackie Chan's "Project A" for the second time. I often prefer original Chinese version to the American versions.

I'm currently in the process of trying to unload my collection of American versions of Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies on VHS, which are dubbed and significantly cut, and I wanna use the money to buy the original Chinese versions, for seveal reasons:

1) The dubbing is so atrocious that it ruins the entire movie for me. I don't mind English subtitles - I've seen enough subtitled movies where I can read subtitles and follow action at the same time.

2) American versions often take HUGE chunks out of the movie and change the script to Westernize it. Disney and New Line are notortious for this. If I'm gonna watch a movie, I wanna see the whole thing. Besides, Disney and New Line didn't make the movies - what right do they have to take stuff out of them?

BTW, it's actually illegal to buy the original versions of these movies WORLDWIDE - including in China and Hong Kong! Disney bought the rights to them, and only their versions are allowed to be sold. And they only sell the edited dubbed versions, and refuse to release the movies as they were originally presented.

If you don't believe me, go here: http://alliance.hellninjacommando.net/purpose.htm. This is a website called The Web Alliance For The Respectful Treatment Of Asian Cinema, which appeals to Hollywood movie studios to release Asian movies as they are, un-cut and in their original langauge.

Dunno bout Disney owning the rights over here.
Most of the Jackie Chan DVDs I own are available with both Chinese & English audio & have been released by Hong Kong Heroes.

How does "The Toolbox Murders" end?

I heard it has something to do with the kidnapped girl's boyfriend or something.

Spoil away, please.

Mrs. G-man and I rented three movies this weekend: "Man on Fire," with Denzel Washington, "the Terminal" with Tom Hanks, and "Anchorman."

We both fell asleep during the latter two, but both enjoyed "Man on Fire" (though Mrs. G-man thought "MoF" was a little bloody in spots.)

Now I know what I'll watch tonight!

I've only watched this disc once, and I think I fell asleep mid-way through listening to the audio commentary. I'd seen "Toolbox" years ago on VHS, but it's plot has been blurred by years of slacker/stalker flicks....

I'll report back after tonight's viewing...

The fuckers at www.imdb.com go on and on about the ending, but the pricks won't tell what it is!

Basically, Cameron Mitchell portrays the killer of the piece, who during the course of the film kidnaps his nephew's girlfriend, tying her up in a hotel room and tormenting her....

Then, close to the end, boyfriend saves the day by killing Uncle Nutcase. The boyfriend then goes into the bedroom to free the gal, and everything seems kosher, until....

Boyfriend practically rapes the gal, and reveals he murdered her brother....seems he was as nutty as Uncle Fruitcake, and that there may have been more than one killer.

Girl catches sight of a pair of scissors on the nightstand...then a quick cut to her in the parking lot walking away from the hotel in a blood stained nightgown....the end.

Thanks HEROKILLER.

Did you know that one was "banned for 12 years" or some rubbish?

Was it that graphic?

It's pretty brutal...the murders, but it's all obvious special effects.

The implied rape....is exactly that, implied.

I know the film pretty much became a big target after the nailgun scene was featured predominantly on an early 1980s episode of "60 Minutes" that was condemnin exploitation films, which gave it it's "bad" reputation.

As for being banned, the only place I can think of was the UK, when it was caught up in the notorious "Video Nasties" scandel from around the same time.

I saw this a few weeks ago, loved it, so of course Bravo has no plans of showing it again, since that would interefere with their "Project Runway" marathons.

I taped this on Halloween. I was pretty happy with most of the selections. Nice to see Audition rank so high - John Landis' comments made me watch it again, then regret doing so for a few days after (I love that damned movie!). The movie ranked #1 wasn't much of a surprise, which kinda bummed me out. But a good list overall.

And I'll be picking up Toolbox Murders after I finish watching Freaks...and some Hitchcock flicks...And Un Chien Andalou...and M...and The Beyond...so many great flicks to watch!!!

Watched Inu-Yasha: Affections Touching Across Time Saturday, and will more than likely watch it a couple more times before I return it (thank you, Netflix). It's not tied to the continuity of the manga or the anime series, but it is a good stand-alone feature.

Can't wait for Castle Beyond the Looking Glass.

Picked up these two DVD releases after work tonight....already had the earlier releases of both on disc, but I'm a.) a sucker for supplementary material and b.) a huge fan of director Luc Besson and actors Jean Reno and Gary Oldman.....

About the Professional DVD: What does this new one have that the previous super-duper special edition doesn't? I'm quite happy with the previous disc...
