1: don't have to be sober anymore
2: no, disney does that.

Ultimate Avengers 2. I know people slammed the first one, but I didn't think that the first one was so bad. Not great, as it flowed better in comic form, but it wasn't nearly as bad as people said - at least IMO. It was ok. Kinda Cute. That said, I thought 2 was much better. They fleshed out some of the characters more. I liked it.

I'm watching the first one right now.

I dug em both. My main quam was the animation quality.

The Company Of Wolves. Tonight I'll watch either Dagon, Re-Animator (special edition), or Monster Squad.

A friend copied it off Monsters HD and sent me a copy. So I basically have a HD-quality bootleg. I also have the director's cut of From Beyond...

V for Vendetta. I loved it, though I admit that I never read the comic book, so how close it was to its source, I dunno. But as a stand alone movie, I really enjoyed it.

El Espinazo del Diablo - which was translated here as The Devil's Backbone - saw this over the weekend, and it is a poetic ghost story set during the Spanish Civil War. I tend to think that as foreign horror movies go, we focus a lot on the Japanese horror films - especially their subpar Americanized remakes (The Grudge comes to mind) and forget so many others. Backbone should not be missed. Yes, its subtitled, but don't let that deter you - it was totally worth it - del Toro is a genius. For those who love straight up slasher/bloody movies, this is prolly too tame for you, but I found this beautiful and haunting - as the tag line says - "The living will always be more dangerous than the dead" and del Toro shows us why brilliantly. I totally recommend it.

An absolutely gorgeous film. I'm dying to see his newest - Pan's Labyrinth - when it comes out!

I know! Don't get me wrong, I like the typical horror movie as much as the next chick (and, yes, I have been known to scream or jump at the scary parts), but this one was pure poetry.

Right now,I'm watching Gojira, the original Japanese Godzilla movie from 1954,subtitles and all.The two disc set alson icludes the 1956 "Americanized" version starring Raymond Burr.I usually don't care for subtitles of any kind, but this hasn't been too bad.

Laura - great '40's whodunnit. And Vincent Price was great as a foppish playboy, which is a role I've never seen him play. He was a huge man - he had to be well over 6 feet tall! - he made everyone else in the movie seem so short...

Hero - I like martial arts films, but does anyone else miss the days when the fights were more hardcore and didn't have the fighters fighting/flying on treetops and lakes?

Hard Candy. Easily the most disturbing movie I've seen this year. Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson gave great performances, though I'm at a loss as to why Sandra Oh needed to be cast - she was wasted in her role. Not that I'm complaining - I likes me some Sandra Oh.

I got a call from my brother this morning - he actually called my office from his commute into work to yell at me about Miike's Audition. Apparently he FINALLY watched it yesterday (I gave him my old DVD about a year ago) and was so disturbed by what he saw (though he admits to liking the movie) that he needed a day to calm down. My Dad asked him if he'd talked to me and my brother told him that he "had a bone to pick with" me. I'm so proud!

Absolutely. I can't say I "enjoyed" it - how do you enjoy a movie with that type of subject matter that plays out the way it does? But I can say I thought it was brilliantly done. The performances were solid, the direction and cinematography was great, and the use of color was amazing. I'm glad I bought it.

It's on my netflix list.

Just saw Brick. Excellent movie. I'm a fan of the noir whodunnits, which this is modelled after, 'cept its set in a high school. I was afraid it would be Noir:90210, but it was really well done, and the acting was excellent. The kid from 3rd Rock is the Bogart-esq lead and he was fantastic. I kept trying to guess who the murderer was. Recommended.

Got so many DVDs to watch at the moment as been buying a load of complete tv series box sets, but never seem to find the time to watch them.

Managed to make my way through season 1 of Highlander & series 1 of Doctor Who, but still have seasons 2-4 of Highlander to watch (with 5 & 6 on the way), plus today I got Quantum Leap seasons 3 & 4 as I spotted em cheap on Amazon over the weekend!
Still at least this way I wont have to buy much in the near future!

On top of this, I still havent got round to watching Carrie I picked up weeks ago & must finish watching Michael Winslow live!

I hated Couching Tiger - I was so bored during it, but Flying Daggers was awesome! But I still wish there was more "fight" and less "fly" or "dance" to the fight scenes....

NWM: You enjoying Highlander? And Dr. Who is also on my list of things to see when I get the time...

I've always been a fan of the Highlander tv series as its more faithful to the first movie than any of the sequels, although you'd probably have to say its set in an alternate time line, and I found Duncan to be a more engaging character than Connor.

The only problem with the show was that I missed so many episodes due to the fact the tv channels here showed it so sporadically.
I just got through watching season 1, and I'd probably only seen 50% of the episodes before!

I think I have seen most of season 2, so this should be familiar ground (currently watching episode one).
From what I remember, this is the season they killed off the annoying Tessa and finally gave up teasing that Richie was an immortal in the making by finally turning him!

Once I get round to recieving & watching the final few seasons, I will probably be looking at 100% of the episodes for the first time!

Agreed. Not to mention that Adrian Paul is the hotness. But that aside, he was just so much more entertaining...

I started watching them during law school and the were only on at 3 in the morning on Sundays - they were my study breaks back then, but so much was deemed "unsuitable" by censors that even at 3 a.m. they edited out a whole buncha stuff. When I finally saw it on DVD, it was like wathcing completely different episodes!

Aye. They thankfully do away with Tessa and Richie starts becoming less annoying once he becomes an immortal.

I've said it before, but seasons 3, 4, and 5 are phenominal... not a bad ep in the bunch!
