" The Chase " was on today. It is a good one! The old guy who played the headmaster in " The Dead Poet's Society " and also a doctor in " St. Elsewhere " guest stars as Captain Picards' teacher from his academy days.

The build up is good, and I love the ending.

I did not used to like this one much, but it kinda grew on me.

After that was " Frame Of Mind." Another good one! Riker is in a mental facility on a planet with no real government.... He must figure out what's what before it's too late!

Done well!

" The Offspring " was on G 4..always liked this one...

Data creates an android daughter and names her Lal, which means " Beloved " in Hindi.

" I do not wish to be different."

I find this episode VERY moving, and I have seen it 20 times now!

After that, " Sins Of The Father " was on.... it is one of the best of all the Worf episodes..and still is.

The Borg were the homosexuals. Going around, trying to convert everyone to their ways.

I always believed the Borg was more of an amalgram for the bulk of our society, and how, in spite of society considering itself unique and fresh, it is actually a collective mind in itself : " Wear these clothes, listen to this music, talk like us, behave as we do, be like us or suffer the stigma of being ostracized."

I thought the Borgs were an allegory of collectivists/communists brainwashing people into their cause.

THanks Captain Sweden!

Today's Spike TV episodes :

" Kayless "

This is a VERY spiritual episode, meant to not only be a Worf episode, and a good one at that, but also a very good analogy for ALL beliefs.... Love What Kayless said to Worf :

"Which is more important : The words or the man who said them? "

wow....

" Second Chances "..not a big fave of mine, but two Rikers is ..most unusual.

" Timescape " .... A sort of " Cause and Effect " part two.

You get to see the following :

Captain Picard with a set of Lee's press on Nails.

Captain Picard draw a smiley face!

Romulans!

A fine trio of Next Gen episodes.

Those are lots of tapes! Good thing tapes doesn't have to be in magazine boxes and plastic wrappings, like comics!

I agree, and yes it is a LOT of tapes! I think I used about 60 or so Maxell VHS's to tape the 174 episodes...some are my favs that I taped a few times, like " The Offspring", Q Who?", Deja Q", " Sins Of The Father", " Remember Me", etc.

I taped 'em all back in 1991 - 1992, but that was NOT on digital cable, as ones I taped this year are..they are on regular cable tv.

One of my uncles had all the original and TNG episodes on tape. He told my oldest brother that he could have them, and all his books, when he died. What happened when he passed away? My fucking cousin threw them all away.

I have no idea, probably in his 60s. He was in poor health. I never knew he existed until just before my grandmother died (when I was 16). My dad had kicked him out of the house 30 something years before because he spanked my oldest brother. No mention was ever made of him in front of me until we went to GA for the funeral. I saw him one more time after that, where I met his wife. She's a bitch.

When I met him, I thought he was cooler than any of my uncles on my dad's side. He was big into SciFi and computers etc. Too bad his wife is such a psychotic bitch, and her kids are losers too. I do beleive it wasw one of them that threw everything away.

That is sad, Ariel. Families can be like that.... mine ain't so hot, either...I understand...

" Tin Man " was on G 4..it rocks! Tamm Elbrin, a telepath from Betazet, born with his telepathy switched ON at birth
unlike most Betazoids, who mainfest telepathy at puberty
( Sounds like a race of mutants! ) is in telepathic contact with an alien being the size of a large spaceship!

" Hollow Pursuits " Reg Barclays first appearance of several. He is addicted to the holo - deck! Has created versions of the Next Gen bridge crew where HE is in charge.

" I am the Goddess of empathy."

Good ones - both of them.

I still think Data pulled the trigger on the Varron T Disruptor. He had had enough. Emotional awareness? I do not know, but it simulated emotion damn near enough!

"Descent parts 1 & 2" was on Spike TV today. We got to see Hugh Borg again, as well as Metaphasic Shielding,
Lor, and the Borg!

"Liasons" is on now, the one where three ambassadors from an alien world pick one Enterprise crew member each to learn about a specific emotion from... Picard crash lands on an alien planet and meets a woman who has been stranded there for years....and there is something very wrong about her.....!

" Menage a Troi" and " Transfigurations" are on G 4 tonite; the latter is still on as I type this. I love the former as a comedy episode.

The latter is pretty cool! The Enterprise finds a one man ship with a critcally injured alien guy in it on a planet. He heals remarkably fast! Best line in it:

Worf : " Less talk - more syntha-hol!"

Wednesday, the four episodes of Next Generation that I do not like enough to tape are:

Home Soil

The Outrageous Okona

The Vengeance Factor

Masks

Those four episodes I just don't care for at all... are there any you do not like?

Yesterday I saw "Best of Two Worlds Part I-II" (on tape), in which Picard become Locutus of Borg. Very exciting. Then came "Family", a more soap-operish tale including Jean-Luc finding his roots in a French vineyard and Worf getting a visit from his human parents. Not too bad. I like Worf episodes.

Today I saw the death of Worf's girlfriend... that was sad. I remember from the 1st time I saw TNG that Worf had a son onboard, but I didn't know why Worf was single back then.

(Early Example Only)

Original Trek To Receive New CG Effects for HDTV and DVD

The original Star Trek is being remastered for future high defintion television syndication as well as eventual release on HD-DVD with new high-definition CG effects.

The Digital Bits reported the story in its Rumor Mill column, which reported previously that CBS Video, which now owns the Star Trek DVDs, was planning to retransfer the original series from film to HD-DVD. All of the Star Trek feature films will be rereleased for HD release as well.

Bill Hunt noted that he learned from industry sources that CBS is redoing many of the original series special effects using new CG techniques. "Specifically, they're re-doing all of the spaceship shots," he wrote. "This to me is a very exciting idea...in principle. As anyone who saw the Mirror Universe episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise will tell you, the old TOS ships look awfully damn good in new CG."

However, Hunt added, CBS is doing this CG work in-house and it is not yet known whether any of Star Trek's longtime effects wizards have worked on the new versions of the episodes. "I tried contacting CBS and their DVD distributor, Paramount, on this subject last week, but there was basically no comment," stated Hunt.

I did not watch the episode - "Interface" - where Geordi thinks his mom is on a planet trapped in it's atmosphere onboard her ship as I was busy, it is an ok episode though I hate that they killed his mom!

"Gambit 1 & 2 " - very nicely played! Plenty of action and good dialogue! Captain Picard and Riker are kidnapped by a group that is looking for parts of an old Vulcan artifact!

Gotta shower before "Best of Both Worlds pts 1 & 2" is on!

Ah! Yeah, Jim's right. The name of the alien in there is "The Companion"...

From StarTrek.com

    Metamorphosis

Assistant Federation Commissioner Nancy Hedford has become ill while trying to stop a war on Epsilon Canaris III. The shuttlecraft Galileo is assigned to take her to the U.S.S. Enterprise, where she will receive treatment for the otherwise fatal Sakuro's disease.

En route, the shuttlecraft is pulled off course by a mysterious, cloud-like entity. Deposited safely on the planet Gamma Canaris N, Kirk and his party meet Zefram Cochrane, the scientist that discovered warp drive over 100 years before. But Cochrane appears young and vital, despite his age. The cloud-like creature, whom Cochrane calls the "Companion," has kept him young and handsome over the years. The Companion captured the Galileo in order to give Cochrane human companionship.

The Companion prevents Spock from repairing the disabled shuttlecraft and Kirk is worried that Nancy Hedford will die before they can get her to the U.S.S. Enterprise for treatment.

By using a translating device, Kirk discovers that the cloud entity has a female personality and is in love with Cochrane, who doesn't care for that idea at all. He's fallen in love with Nancy Hedford and agrees to help destroy the cloud creature so that they can save Nancy's life. When that attempt fails, the cloud creature enters Nancy's body, saving her life, healing her. In this way, the Companion can know human love with Cochrane and Nancy Hedford's life can be saved. With the Companion no longer holding him on the planet, Cochrane is free to leave, but decides to remain with what is now Nancy/Companion. As the landing party departs, Cochrane and his new mate contemplate children and a normal life span.
