This was a fun thread. Can anyone think of more heroes they had liked who were killed?

I always felt that killing off one of Triplicate Girl's three bodies was kind of dumb, especially since around Adventure Comics # 369 or so that it was established that she had the strength of two girls when in one body; it would have been a bit more useful if she'd had the strength of three girls when in one body.

It must have been terrible to have been able to split into three bodies and have one killed. In that story where Computo killed her third body, she disappeared for a time...I believe that was to take a bit of time to recover from the trauma of that experience.

One of the problems is that they have killed many characters only to later bring them back. Very few deaths seem permanent.

I still rank Supergirl's death as one of the best because it was heartfelt and meaningful. It also had a nice symbolism to it with the death of her innocence more mature comic themes followed like watchmen and dark knight.

I don't think Barry Allen's death was nearly as well done as Kara's-although it was done well.

Agreed, Pig Iron. Supergirls' death hit me VERY hard back in 1986 or so when it happened. I read the issues when she was still Superman's emergency weapon. She was a powerful super heroine at a time when most other super heroines could only split into two, walk through walls, or shrink.

I grew up reading Kara's adventures.

When she died, I went into denial. I quit reading comic books just a couple years later partly because of this.

I always felt DC did this just to sell copies of Crisis.

Bastards.

I agree..they ought not to kill off the characters so often if they are only going to revive them at a later date.

I grew up reading Barry Allen's adventures, as well. His death was noble, but yes, it could have been handled a bit differently.

They killed off Harbinger in Superman/Batman. That kind of sucked.

Jocosta..she was a robotic hero. I believe she had much untapped potential.

Then they destroyed her.

No one has mentioned Frank Miller's story portraying the death of Elecktra, in DAREDEVIL 181.

I actually like the issue after at least as much, as Daredevil comes to terms with her death.

This was one of the biggest events of the early 1980's, second only to the death of Phoenix in X-MEN 137 in 1980.
And certainly the biggest event of 1982.

Even better, I think, is the alternate ending Miller did in WHAT IF 35, a month or two after he killed off Elecktra. It was also good because Austin inked this issue instead of Janson, and it was nice to see the contrast between the two.

This version is a much happier ending. What Miller described in the fan press at the time as "The ending everybody wanted to see."

Didn't they bring Elektra back, eventually?

No one has mentioned Thunderbird, one of the All Different, All New X Men. I think he died in the very first issue of the NEW X Men series, or shortly after that series was re-launched.

He was pretty cool.

Laurel Gand, from the FIVE YEARS LATER version of the LSH.

She was perfection!

Brave, caring, and beautiful.

I hated it when she died.

She was great....

I miss Genis Mar-vell (sp) He was great, butI think he was better when Peter David was writing him. I didn't care for how he was written in (it's too early in the morning and I'm drawing a blank on the series name right now) Then they killed him off. Supposedly they're bringing him back.

Amen sister!

Peter David's Captain Marvel run (ESPECIALLY during the latter "Godhood" series) was fucking brilliant. When given free reign, David can take any character into uncharted territory with unexpected genius.

I miss the 'cosmically-aware/insane' Marvel. I also highly recommend it to anyone looking for something new, un-superheroic, and original...

Shouldn't you call him Busiek and Pacheco's Captain Marvel???

The opposite ..which character are you glad they killed off.

I paid good money to kill Jason Todd, only to see him brought back, but not brought back and then really brought back by a hack. He could've been a great villain, but noooooooooooooooooooooooo. They bring him back as some lame jerk who was even more of a jerk than before which is why I hated him in the first place..oy.

Give me back my money with 17 years interest.

I agree.. Jason Todd ought to have stayed dead!

As for who I am glad they killed off?

I'm drawing a blank there.
