Lil bit of trivia - that song was the last song before the Dreamgirls' intermission. In the original script, Effie committed suicide and never showed up in the second half of the show. A week before most shows officially open on Broadway they have a test run of sorts - and sometimes they ask for the audience opinions. People loved Holliday's performance so much and were so angered/upset about Effie's death that the producers re-wrote the script to keep Holliday in... she ended up winning a Tony for her performance too.
