And, to be fair, one of my favorite friends there is blind and I take every opportunity available to make fun of that and we're still friends. That guy never fit there. A bunch of songs from a midwestern band called "the Rainmakers" who almost hit it big in the 1980s with a song called "Downstream."
They got a bit of airplay on MTV at the time, mostly because, in the wake of guys like Springsteen, Mellencamp, John Fogerty (who'd just had a big comeback after his self imposed post CCR exile) and Tom Petty, MTV was playing a lot of roots rock. Hard to believe these days, I know.
I think it's damn funny that the two of us listen to probably the most liberal and subversive musicians.

Ironic. The band's lyrics was always one of the things that most critics praised.

Funny you should mention singers' politics since the Rainmakers were also considered somewhat unique in that they often put somewhat conservative (at least for rock music) messages in their songs:
The first of the two songs above, "Government Cheese" is about the debilitating effect of welfare, while the second "Drinking on the Job," is as close to an anti-drug message as an upbeat rock song usually gets.

Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

Saw them at the Garden last night. Awesome concert - they were in Halloween costumes too!

The first cd is incredible! I listened to it yesterday, and every song on it is fantastic!
I'll listen to the second cd soon.
For anyone interested in The Allan Parsons Project and this cd, just go to Amazon and type in the group's name; the cd will come up and you can hear bits of each song on it.. but, that won't give you the whole picture. It would be like looking at a sunset while squinting.
