Hung out with the guys tonight. Watched the Patriots beat the Jags in spite of the refs. Then we put this bad boy into the DVD player:
This movie is fucking brilliant in its awfulness. It was made in 1983 and just reeks of the times. The acting? Awful. The Long Island accents? Excruciating. The plot? Predictable. But the kills are fantastic and the ending is top notch. It's a great movie to watch while drunk or high or just in the mood for a junk food flick. I urge you to go into this movie blind. Don't research it. Don't read anything about it. Just rent it (netflix it) and enjoy. You'll thank me later.

For some reason when I'm sick, I have to watch Disney movies. Something about chicken soup and Dumbo, I suppose...
This is a GREAT remaster. On my old VHS, Bagherra was just an inky black mess. This is nice...very nice...
And it's one of the few movies that didn't bug me how different it was from the novels. Then again, I was probably the only kid that read Kipling at age nine.
I'm tempted to see if the Chuck Jones's version is on Netflix. I heard it's closer to the book.
One of my favorite Disney flicks. It was the last one Disney worked on before he died. I didn't know that Chuck Jones had a version. Gotta track that down.

Same here. I had it for the longest time till I finally put in on the other day. It's a great historical drama and uplifting overall but the oddest thing about this film is that the boxing sequences are the films weakest point.

Meet John Doe (1941)
Very typical Capra. The premise sounds rather hokey and corny but the execution is masterful. It's a populist fable about a newspaper con that snowballs into a social movement that is then exploited by "the man" for their own gain. EXCELLENT excellent message movie. Plus Barbara Stanwyck looks absolutely HOT in this movie. I was never too big on Gary Cooper as a leading man, but he did a great job in this one. "Baseball's My Racket and I'm Stickin' To It".
If they ever release a decent copy of this film (I have a very crap $1.00 drugstore dVD) I'll be exstatic. This one was watchable but it's obvious you're watching a 10X generation VHS tape transferred over to DVD.

Following, again, our run with Zomb-edies, I present Fido.
What can I say; Lassie meets the Living Dead. It takes place in a 50's-era world that happens to have been inflicted with the undead. There's a lot of sociopolitical commentary on roles of various peoples in the common American Ideal, but who gives a shit? Is zombiez.
Fido in this case takes the place of Lassie -- even to the blatant "What's wrong, Fido? Where's Timmy? Where is he, boy?"
As a zombie film this gets poor marks. There is almost zero gore. The zombies are mostly contained. Aside from that, when there IS a flesh-eating sequence it isn't frightening in the least. Doesn't really even try to be.
As a mopvie in general... it was well made and has an entertaining -- if predictable -- story line. The neighbor is buggering a zombie, too:

I liked Fido BECAUSE, as a zombie film, it had more in common with Lassie or Flipper (the films and the sit-coms) than with Romero's zombies. The zombie genre, in general, is dangerously close to played out (if it isn't there already), so to see a fresher take on it is a relief.

True, and -as mentioned- I give the movie itself a high score. Entertaining, funny, sometimes almost ironiclly poetic. But if you go in expecting a "ZOMG ZOMBIEZ!" film, you'll be let down, if only a little.

I actually didnt watch it. Its been bought to complete my Eastwood collection as he is my fave actor, but you would know that if you have paid attention in the past.

3:10 is bloody great! I do love me some westerns, and this one was a goodun!
Shoot em up is one of my fave films in ages. So totally over the top and stupid that its brilliant. Its a great parody of the action film genre without actually being a comedy. All the stunts are so over the top, that you just have to laugh (killing someone by punching a carrot out of the back of his head springs to mind).
