I highly doubt it. They made just about every spidey villian for Spider-Emo 3. Its just marketing.

That's my first thought; but then again, why go through the trouble of doing a redesign? I remember the Spidey toys being closer to the comic versions than that.

How many different versions of the same transformer came out over the last year or so? That shit was the best selling toy for boys over the holiday season. People will eat this shit up.

If they make a video game out of the movie expect his and all of Batmans enemies to show up.

I understand what Doc is saying, however. If the goal was just to make a toy to throw in the line and sell to boys, why go to the trouble and cost of a resdesign? The fact that they mocked up an action figure in what looks, basically, like a Nolanized version of the character would seem to point up that he appears in the film.

With that being said, I wouldn't get too excited about him being in the film. Given we already have the Joker, Two Face and the mobster character (Maroni?), I can't see him getting a lot of screen time.

The Transformers variants were all of characters who appeared in the movie. Why make a variant of a character who doesn't? Also, from what's been shown of this toy line, there'll be the same shitload of variants that have absolutely nothing what-so-ever to do with this movie like the SCUBA Batman, etc.

Again, I don't really believe that the above pictured character is in the movie; but I still gotta wonder why the additional trouble was made to make it outside of the comic book mold as well as why there aren't other well known characters also.

said spoiled character also isn't really a batman character. if they were making clayface and penguin figures, thats one thing. but this guy being associated with that world is a little more suspect that its an actual spoiler.

(and, as an aside, he could very easily have a smaller "enforcer" / "boba fett" type role for one of the established biggies)

No, some of them were from the video game, they even had "as seen in the video game" under their name. As far as merchandising and marketing goes its all the same thing.

Harvey Dent Wants You to Join the Fight for Gotham City!
cinematical.com

  • The Dark Knight has launched a new wave of viral marketing. Simply head on over to I Believe in Harvey Dent and enter your e-mail address if you want to join in the fight to save Gotham City. You should receive an auto-response from Dent very quickly. The next step has yet to be revealed, but instructions are to keep checking Dent's site. I hope this campaign will feature threatening voice mails again -- I like getting death threats from Gotham's crooked cops!

The last campaign was in December, revealing the new trailer and poster. What do you think we'll see this time? Given who's leading this one, I wonder if we will finally get a glimpse of Two-Face. (Other than the action figure, of course.)

I suspect this will be the first of many viral campaigns focused on Dent -- it is the first we have had since Heath Ledger's tragic death and it is significantly Joker-less. Will we see the Joker online again before the movie hits theatres? Am I wrong in hoping that we will?

 Quote:
Last year at the Independent Spirit Awards, Aaron Eckhart spilled the beans on Harvey Dent, telling MTV News that the key to his performance was in finding “the tension…the similarities” between Batman and Two-Face. This year, he told us what he found.

“Well, they’re both crime fighters,” he said. “They both care about law and order. They both care about Gotham City. Although they come from different backgrounds, they share certain things. Pausing, he added, “[Things that] I cannot tell you about.”

Anybody who’s ever read a “Batman” comic book knows what some of those things are – admitting them would be a non-spoiler spoiler, akin to saying Harry Potter and Voldemort are both orphans. If you’re familiar at all with the source material, chances are you know this already.

So what could it be in Nolan’s universe that demands secrecy? It would have to be something specific to the movie, right? Something not in any other Batman incarnation. Something like…Assistant District Attorney Rachel Dawes?

Could it be that both men share a love for the spunky brunette?

For his part, Eckhart’s not talking.

“I can’t comment on anything. I’m sorry. You gotta ask, but literally, if I ever want to work in this town again, I cannot say anything to you,” he teased, smiling. “[Chris Nolan] is a good man, but he’s a tough man.”

One thing Eckhart would reveal, however, is that he shares a scene in the film with the Joker. While we endlessly discussed the effectiveness of Ledger’s performance after the first trailer arrived, Eckhart says there can be no debate – Ledger’s work will “blow [you] away.”

“I had a wonderful time working with Heath. I had the chance to watch him shine in this movie,” Eckhart said. “I am glad that I was able to be in the same room and watch him work.”

Which is great, because I got a voicemail asking me to vote Dent for District Attorney today at work. Totally made my day.

THE TWO PERFORMANCES OF TWO-FACE

We don't know much about Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, do we? Let's change that.

Forget Tommy Lee Jones's one-note butchering of the character in Batman Forever, Christopher Nolan is experimenting with a fascinatingly schizophrenic depiction of Two-Face that will blend sane and insane line readings from Eckhart. Basically, Nolan shot complementary takes of Eckhart in Two-Face makeup so he could visually represent the duality of Dent in a less cartoony fashion. What Nolan's doing doesn't sound all that far removed from the Gollum/Smeagol model, though the obvious difference here is that Dent isn't motion-capture; he's a fifty-fifty split of the same actor giving two wildly divergent performances in the same shot. And because he has two takes of each scene, Nolan has the luxury of shaping Eckhart's performance in post; it's just a matter of switching the dial between normal Harvey and bug-fuck Two-Face. Again, both will be present in the shot, but only one will dominate the poor bastard's conflicted consciousness at any given moment. The technical audacity required in pulling this off may be the reason Two-Face was held back in the trailer.

This is just one of many creative decisions that's got folks over at the Warner Brothers lot giddy about July 18th. Given the... er, informed speculation I've heard regarding The Joker's more sinister actions in the film, I'll be shocked if this film doesn't encounter some trouble with the ratings board. Still, the dark tone doesn't surprise me nearly as much as Dent's prominent role in the narrative; it sounds like it's his vanity (pre-Two-Face) that brings The Joker's wrath down on Batman.

Everything I'm getting on Nolan's film is coming in piecemeal, but trust me on this: The Dark Knight is going to play rough. There may be more to come, but I may sit on it for fear of spoiling the film any further.
