Supposedly, one of the reasons he hung on as long as he did was that Mrs Spitzer tried to talk him out of resigning. If that's the case I have no sympathy for her.

The ones I really feel sorry for are his kids. The are all teenagers and obviously old enough to understand just how creepy and kinky this was. They're the ones he really humiliated with this stunt.

Like I said, I feel bad for her only if she didn't (as reported) urge him to stay on. If that's the case, she's just another Hillary, trying to cover up her husband's wrongdoing to further their political careers. If that's not the case, however, or it turns out she said that only because he had lied to her about what happened, then I still feel bad for her.

"Kristen," the high-priced prostitute whom New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is believed to have hired, has been identified by the New York Times as Ashley Alexandra Dupre, a 22-year-old aspiring musician and native of New Jersey.

Dupre, who was born Ashley Youmans, now lives in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, the Times reports. She appeared in court Monday as a witness against the four people charged in the alleged prostitution ring known as the Emperors Club V.I.P.

Dupre grew up in New Jersey, before moving to North Carolina in her teens, her mother told the New York Times.

Her mother, who didn't know her daughter was an escort until she called her last week, told the Times she doesn't think her daughter knew who Spitzer was at the time of the incident.

“She is a very bright girl who can handle someone like the governor,” Carolyn Capalbo, 46, told the newspaper. "But she also is a 22-year-old not a 32-year-old or a 42-year-old and she obviously got involved in something much larger than her.”

I just read Ann Coulter's latest editorial, about Spitzer, and I'm beyond furious. She's finally crossed the line beyond redemption and sunk to a new level of lowliness.

And as much as I hate to admit it, it ain't a bad pun. (Or a bad editorial - she really comes off as surprisingly disillusioned and disappointed by Spitzer's shenanigans.)

But she will Annswer for her transgression, mark my words.

One of the things that Ann mentions in her editorial is something I've noticed not to many others have picked up on:

• There's no prettifying what Spitzer has done. The Web site of the "Emperors Club VIP" whorehouse patronized by Spitzer heroically claims the prostitutes -- or "models" -- are chosen for their "level of education, family background, intelligence, personality."
  
  Surprising no one, police wiretaps indicate that the "models" were semi-literate, could not learn to swipe a credit card and seemed invariably to be on drugs. That's what you get for $2,000 an hour in this charming business.
  
  After one prostitute missed an appointment and left a "crazy" text message for one of her pimps, the procurer remarks that the girl is on drugs. It seems, the procurer adds, "a lot of these girls deteriorate to this point."

The hooker Spitzer had was advertised as a 24 year old college graduate by the service. She was a 22 year old who ran away from home and was probably a high school drop out. It makes you wonder about the backgrounds of the other "high class" prostitutes and even whether they were all of legal age.

I'm sure the fact she didn't have a degree is far from the most pressing issue in Spitzer's mind. My point, however, was that it tends to show that even the "high priced" girls are probably more exploited then we'd like to think.

Does that mean it should remain illegal? Not necessarily. I think an argument can be made that legalization would prevent some of that exploitation.

Either way, not to make too big a deal over what was a minor point in all this, I just find it interesting that the escort service sells these obviously attractive women as something they're not in terms of background.

Spitzer's call-girl of choice is being given glamorous national coverage in the media, comparable to the hookers of Sheen and Grant.

In the cases of Gant and Sheen, I think it actually helped them sell their image. Spitzer is more like Mark Foley, where he was privately living a life completely opposite what he publicly opposed.

Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy are guys Spitzer could go to, who could advise him how to weather a sex scandal completely unscathed. Maybe the key is calling your accusers "bullies" or a "right wing attack machine".

Supposedly, Spitzer's hooker also did Charlie Sheen.

I don't think Bill Clinton was on a public crusade against fat interns at the time of the Lewinsky scandal though.

Actually, to me, that should give Spitzer points over Clinton. If you are going to potentially fuck up your political career, isn't it better to fuck it up for something like this:
