I think those characters are the least cliched, and seem to have more depth. The others seem to fit generic criteria for shows like this.
I do like Sayid as well, just but I think its a risky move to have an Iraqi character in a US based show right now, and the fact they have used an Indian actor, just shows how little some people know about the difference between Indians and Iraqis etc.
I also find it strange that on a flight from Australia, there was only one Australian on the plane!
