The trick is you can have bad sets, you can have bad costumes.

I think as long as the acting,the writing, or both is there you are willing to suspend disbelief.

It's just lazy not to even try to make it happen on a budget.

They couldn't possibly have a smaller budget than the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation and they brought us alien worlds.
