David Alan Grier is an underrated comedian.

There's a period of time where he and Carrey were the main reasons to watch "In Living Color."

As for what I'm listening to:

A cheesy 80s video but, damn, if it isn't still a catchy song.

Not 80s...think it came out in 91..but I love this song/video.

For those that don't know, the music is basically a throwaway beat by Public Enemy from The Nations of Millions... CD.

You know, if you're going to do Karaoke to someone else's song...

i never understood why led zepplin is so highly rated by people. they are a decent band, but to hear most people talk they are one of the greatest.

I think during their generation, they certainly stood head and shoulders above many bands, but I too do not see why they are still rated so highly.
The Remasters CD is the only album you need to own, as it contains their better tracks, and cuts out all the shit they produced as well.

Because to my ears at least he ripped off a lot more of "Werewolves" than "Alabama."

Apart from the fact it actually mentions the song in the lyrics as well.
Funny thing is, when some guys heard it at work when I was playing the CD, asked if it was Sweet Home Alabama, this was as soon as the song started and the Alabama riff hadnt even started!
They'd never heard Werewolves before.

Werewolves and SHA have very similar guitar riffs. I've ever heard Zevon jam a bit of SHA into a live version of WoL now and then, so have someone 'mash' them isn't that surprising.

And SHA is clearly the more famous of the two songs so I wouldn't expect most people to immediately realize the Zevon connection.

Overall, however, to my ears, there's more Zevon than Skynyrd in that 'homage.'

From their generation, I'd say that both Skynyrd and Sabbath were better as their body of work was more consistant, and not as pretentious as a lot of Zepp.
Queen on the other hand, did pretentious but were far more commercial, hence their acceptance by just about anyone and everyone!

I'd rate Queen far ahead of Zepp!

Gotta agree. Never saw understood why people are still so enamored with them.

I think that's pretty dead on. Skynyrd, up until the crash, never made themselves out to be more than just some country boys from Florida playing music and making money. Some songs had a social message (Mr. Saturday Night Special), but they were mostly making music about their lives.

Zepp was comprised of some very technically proficient musicians.

However, the fact they literally out and out plagarized some classic blues singers, most particularly Willie Dixon (who, much to their surprise, was alive and willing to sue their asses), by claiming songwriting credit on songs they assumed were public domain is pretty damning, in terms of both their actual songwriting ability and sense of ethics.

I don't disagree. I was simply acknowledging that their 'whole' was less than the sum of their parts.
