According to the folks over at ToonZone, the US air date for Justice League Unlimited is August 7th . . .

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

The Justice League animated series is going to get bigger very quickly. Before the opening theme of the season opener of Justice League Unlimited, viewers will be treated to more than 60 heroes.

"We've got a heckuva lot more characters, pretty much a full roster of DC heroes," director Joaquim Dos Santos told The Continuum last weekend at Wizard World Los Angeles. "It's pretty much going to be bigger and badder. It's going to be huge.

"The opening teaser a huge shot of the interior of the Watchtower and it's literally just packed with every character you can imagine. I know it's going to be a pause-fest going on, where people are picking out heroes."

Dos Santos, who shares directing duties with Dan Riba, said he's already worked on five episodes for the upcoming seaosn.

While he can't reveal too many details, he did tell The Continuum how the new season will work.

"They've done away with the two-part format. It's just 30-minute episodes," he said. "The way it works out there's a core group, and they'll take a team of two or three other heroes on an adventure with them. There's basically a team leader and then the new guys on the team, the rookies.

"Other than that, there's no real format. It can kind of go anyway in wants."

Dos Santos directed the season opener, "Initiation." He said that Green Arrow figures prominently in the episode and that Supergirl and Captain Atom also play key roles.

"From the get-go, there's huge consequences," he said. "People will be taken out of the game. Stuff will matter. When a character's injured, he's injured. He's out for a while."

What was his reaction when he heard about the new approach to the series?

"I flipped out," he said. "I didn't think they were able to pull it off. Just logistically for a production coordinator to handle 60 characters from the get-go, it's a huge undertaking.

"Not should it be more fun for the viewers, but for us, too. I think it keeps it interesting because we're not just handling the same characters every episode. For us it's fun ... one show will be Captain Atom with Supergirl and Green Atom and another show will be Superman with Hawk or whomever."

Dos Santos said to look for a new Watchtower and Javelin. The director also said all systems are go for an August launch of Justice League Unlimited. "We just got some early footage back and it's looking really nice," he said.

I'm really not wild about this. The only reason I watch the Justcie League is due to the lack of BTAS and for Wonder Woman. Adding more bodies to the JL orgy just kinda cheapens it.

And really, the whole point of the show is to have FAMILIAR heroes.

Also.... I feel so sorry for Bruce Timm and his definite eventual carpul tunnel syndrome.

Never really cared for the Justice League. The stories were uninteresting and the characterization was forced(way too PC). Like a desperate attempt at compensating for Superfriends.

Oh? How much will you give me?

Making Jon Stewart as the Green Lantern to have black representation, then portraying him the biggest badass and the most experienced guy on the team.

Depowering Superman to the point where a tazer knocks him out. I know Superfriends was really just Superman(and his worthless friends), but c'mon.....

The Flash is a forensics specialist working with the police(that's what I'm remembering, at least), but like an idiot in nearly every encounter with a bad guy he charges ahead and is dispatched easily by a backhand or a force field or something.

JUSTICE LEAGUE ANIMATED UPDATE

The Atom will be appearing in the upcoming Justice League Unlimited animated series, courtesy of two veteran comics writers.

"Atom's going to be great," story editor Dwayne McDuffie told The Continuum. "Warren Ellis wrote the first Atom episode."

"He gave him an intersting personality," story editor Stan Berkowitz added. "And then J.M. DeMatteis did the second one, and built on that personality."

In other Justice League news:

* Justice League Unlimited will launch on Aug. 7 on Cartoon Network.

* Andrew Kreisberg wrote an episode involving Booster Gold.

"The concept was Rosenkrantz & Guildenstern," Berkowitz told The Continuum. "With all this big stuff going on, here's a guy who's involved in a small part of it and not very happy about his lot in life."

* The entire main voice cast returns for the third season, including Kevin Conroy at Batman, George Newbern as Superman, Michael Rosenbaum as Flash, Phil LaMarr as Green Lantern, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Maria Canals as Hawkgirl and Carl Lumbly as Martian Manhunter.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

Bruce Timm, producer of Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited animated series, told The Continuum that the show's second episode will be an adaptation of the Alan Moore story, "For The Man Who Has Everything."

"That actually came about when we were sittng down plotting the season, it came up in the conversation that in the first two seasons we never did a show that involved just the big three," Timm said. "And we were like, 'Yeah, I guess we should rectify that situation.'

"And it was Dwayne (McDuffie, story editor) who said that the best big three story of all time was 'For The Man Who Has Everything.' And we said, 'OK, let's go that.'"

Timm said he talked to Moore about doing the episode.

"I wasn't going to do the show if he wasn't comfortable with us doing it," Timm said. "And he said, 'Oh yes, I would be honored if you would adapt that for your show.'

"So that was great. And hopefully, he'll still feel that way once the show's done. I think he'll like it."

Eric Roberts returns to do the voice of Mongul in the episode, which, along with the season opener "Initiation," has returned from overseas animation.

Posted By: Im Not Mister Mxyzptlk Re: Justice League Unlimited - 2004-05-16 3:25 AM
I've only watched one. It's an episode where three kids narrate their interpretation of The Bat-Man. One of the kids (I think this one was a girl) describes him like the DKR Bat-Man and we see a sequence drawn in Miller style with old grey Bats and female Robin fighting the mutants. The mud fight scene from DKR was reproduced almost entirely (there was a cool line there... can't remember it right now), and it was cool seeing it animated. That's what I was reffering to when I said how seeing the Superman Moore story animated would be like.

After looking back on this thread again, I just figured out how I got confuzzled.

I said that the last thing I wanted was to see a DKR Batman personality in the Animated Series interacting with the other characters.

Bisco Stu said it was already done.

I was like "zuh?" I thought he meant that it was consistent and that the Animated Series (NOT a single movie) constantly had a DKR Batman. Like it was modeled after a Frank Miller incarnation.

But no, he was talking about an isolated movie type event apparently. Taking this into mind, I renue my dislike for having a Frank Miller DKR Batman show up in the Animated Series'.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

Saturday's airing of the "Starcrossed" Justice League movie on Cartoon Network gave viewers their first glimpse of Justice League Unlimited with a short promo during the final credits.

The images appear to be from "Initiation," which opens the season on Saturday, Aug. 7.

The episode, as well as the preview, features Supergirl, Green Arrow and Captain Atom.

"Supergirl's great," said Paul Dini during The Continuum's recent roundtable interviews with Justice League creators. "I saw the first episode. She's the kid of the group. Everything she does on screen reminds you that here's the energetic kid hero, trying to earn her wings."

The promo showed the much-discussed scene in the Watchtower with literally dozens of DC heroes.

The huge number of heroes won't be a pattern, though. Most episodes will focus on much small groups.

"Truthfully, some episodes of Justice League in the previous seasons were harder because we were trying to juggle seven," story editor Stan Berkowitz told The Continuum. "In the new season, seldom are there seven major heroes in one episode.

"How could you give their due to seven characters in half an hour? Or more than that? That would be impossible."

Asner did the voice of Granny Goodness in the two-part episodes "Little Girl Lost" and "Legacy" of Kids' WB!'s Superman series.

As previously reported, Asner, 74, has also done the voice of Hephestus for Justice League Unlimited.

The actor has done numerous voice roles, including Officer Barr in MTV's Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson in Fox Kids' Spider-Man.

This wierd thing where Maddam Web sent Peter to save an alternate reality with the help other Spider-Men from other realities. One was an actor who had no powers, who played Spider-Man, in our world. He wanted to help. After Peter saved the day, he had a talk with Stan Lee, and then he went with Maddam Web to begin his quest to find the real Marry Jane. And that's how it ended.

The whole thing with the fake Marry Jane, and then Peter losing her, that wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. Thing is, it would have been nice if he would have found MJ in the end, or at least gotten some kind of clue, or something. Instead we got a storry that had no real relevance to anything that ever happened.

In other words, I found the finally to be a let down.

JUSTICE LEAGUE ANIMATED UPDATE

Dennis Farina is providing the voice of Wildcat for Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited animated series.

"We had a good-sized list for Wildcat, and Dennis Farina was at the top," producer Bruce Timm told The Continuum. "And he was the first guy who said, 'Sure, I'd like to come play.'

"And he worked out great. He was awesome, actually."

Farina is among numerous guest-stars in the series.

"We always wind up with really good choices, I think," Timm said.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

Cartoon Network has relased titles, air dates and synopses for the five episodes of Justice League Unlimited.

Here's how the season is described by the network:

"As the season begins, Superman addresses an awesome assemblage of heroes. He and the rest of the Justice League, which in the past included the Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl, have come to realize that the universe might be best served by enlarging the group, being more proactive and coordinating more effectively. The group assembles an awesome collection of superheroes and brings them together aboard the Watchtower, the orbiting space station. It's from this perch that Martian Manhunter monitors goings-on across the galaxies and assigns teams of superheroes to tackle problems.

"But it isn't always smooth sailing for the members of the expanded Justice League. Superheroes usually work alone and have powerful, and idiosyncratic, personalities, so conflicts inevitably arise. Like any co-workers, these people don't always agree on the best way to solve a problem. But in the case of the new Justice League, these superheroes are dealing with civil wars, rogue criminals and rampaging monsters, so they must learn to work together.

"The new roster of Justice League Unlimited includes some of the most famous superheroes around, like Green Arrow, Supergirl and Captain Atom. Other members may be a bit more obscure. Hawk & Dove are siblings with a very different take on conflict resolution techniques. B'wana Beast is a jungle man-turned-superhero, a combination of the Bronx and the Bronx Zoo. The Atom is the world's smallest superhero. Booster Gold, a glory-seeking hero from the future, joins the Justice League, as does Zatanna, a beautiful magician and sorceress. While there is a universe filled with new threats, a few classic villains return, including Lex Luthor, Soloman Grundy and Mongul."

Following is a rundown of the first five episodes:

* Saturday, July 31: "Initiation"
A reluctant Green Arrow is asked to join the new Justice League. He, Supergirl and Captain Atom are dispatched on a mission to stop a rampaging nuclear monster in Asia.

* Saturday, Aug. 7: "For the Man Who Has Everything"
Batman and Wonder Woman surprise Superman at the Fortress of Solitude, in order to bring the Man of Steel his birthday present. But when they arrive, he has been immobilized by a special "gift" that Mongul has delivered to him.

* Saturday, Aug. 14: "Hawk and Dove"
Two siblings, one a pacifist and the other more aggressive, join Wonder Woman in a mission to stop a war between two neighbors. It turns out that the escalation of the conflict is all part of Ares' plan to spread misery.

* Saturday, Aug. 21: "Fearful Symmetry"
When Supergirl begins having some very disturbing dreams, she gets help from Green Arrow and The Question to figure out what is happening. It turns out she may not be dreaming after all.

* Saturday, Aug. 28: "Kids' Stuff"
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern are transformed into 8-year-olds in a desperate attempt to save the world from the magic of Mordred.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons will receive credits in the upcoming Justice League Unlimited episode, "For the Man Who Has Everything."

Moore and Gibbons created the comics story from which the episode is based. The story first appeared in Superman Annual #11 in 1985 and has been reprinted subsequently.

Producer Bruce Timm recently explained how the episode developed.

"That actually came about when we were sittng down plotting the season, it came up in the conversation that in the first two seasons we never did a show that involved just the big three," Timm said. "And we were like, 'Yeah, I guess we should rectify that situation.'

"And it was Dwayne (McDuffie, story editor/producer) who said that the best big three story of all time was 'For the Man Who Has Everything.' And we said, 'OK, let's do that.'"

Timm said he talked to Moore about doing the episode.

"I wasn't going to do the show if he wasn't comfortable with us doing it," Timm said. "And he said, 'Oh yes, I would be honoured if you would adapt that for your show.'

"So that was great. And hopefully, he'll still feel that way once the show's done. I think he'll like it."

The episode features Mongul, who also appeared in the two-part "War World" episode of Justice League. In "For the Man Who Has Everything," Batman and Wonder Woman surprise Superman at the Fortress of Solitude, in order to bring the Man of Steel his birthday present. But when they arrive, he has been immobilized by a special "gift" that Mongul has delivered to him.

"It's a really intense episode," Timm said. "Mongul is definitely more scary than in the episode 'War World.'"

Mongul is again voiced by Eric Roberts, whom Timm said brought to life through an offbeat performance in "War World."

"Honestly, Eric Roberts kind of made us nervous a little bit because he had so many different ideas on how to play this character and we recorded every single one of them,í Timm said on a recent Justice League: Paradise Lost DVD. ìHe's not consistent through the episode -- he doesn't sound like the same guy from the beginning to the end. There are times when he's real suave, and there are other times where he's really brutish, and we thought, 'Man, we don't know if this is going to cut together -- if this is going to make a consistent character -- or what.'

"Fortunately, the storyboard artists really focused in on the acting that he had provided in the vocal tracks and played up all these different facets of his personality in the show. So, when we got the show back, we thought, 'Wow, this is great, this is better than if he was just the mean bad guy.' I mean, he's vain, he's arrogant, he's petty. I think that makes him an interesting character and, fortunately, that's exactly what Eric brought out in his performance."

"For the Man Who Has Everything" is scheduled to air on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (ET). Look for more Justice League news soon here in The Continuum.

I can't wait for the Morrisson JLU/The Filth crossover Episode!

Now on to the episode:

The Moore episode IMO was as good as an abridged animated version of his story could get. That's a good thing.

It omitted ALL of the political Jor-El stuff and just stuck to the emotional stuff with Kal-El's son.

My one beef though with the episode was that in the classic 'burn" scene, the voice actor recited the word in that same wimpy Superman voice he always does, thus kind of watering down the intensity Superman was supposed to have been feeling at the time. Someone should have coached him more on the signifigance of that scene IMO.

The animators however more than made up for this in the incredible and violent slugfest they rendered. I'd say that was as violent and intense an episode as I can remember from ANY animated show. Again, that's a good thing.

The omission of Robin and some very very minor changes (no Kandor replica gift) were pretty much negligible and IMO were an improvement. Do we really need a perv Robin comment on WW's costume to make the ep. work? NO.

It would have been nice if we'd have gotten a glimpse of Mongul's "Black Mercy" inspired dream, complete with Warworld and Braniac kneeling before him as in the comic, rather than just the sound effects. But that's just fanboy nitpicking now......

I happened to give a review for the 1st Episode over at the DC boards where I posted that I was less than impressed.
The premeire Episode seemed to rely more on fanboy wish dreams of Animated versions of the ENTIRE DCU (complete with 1 dimensional personalities) more than they relied on good solid storytelling.

This episode made up for it and then some. However, the fact that this 2nd episode is derived from one of the best Superman stories ever told might actually have something to do with it.

So the jury's still out on JLU as far as i'm concerned.

P.S.

I watched it yesterday during a short break while I was at home. It was highly amusing.

All quotes aren't exact . . . but they're pretty damn close.

* The child version of John Stewart as GL is the closest you'll probably ever see to him being like Kyle . . . including the "mask" which were his idea of "cool glasses" since Bruce made fun of his "dorky" glasses that first appeared on his face ("I must need them again.").

* Diana smacking the back of Clark's head in a, "Stop wasting time!" thing.

* "Man, for someone with 50 kinds of vision you sure are blind."

* "We'll find all your mothers . . . and I'm gonna tell!"

* "Now that's a job for Superman."

* "I change my mind, I'll go with Bruce."

* "Your girl from Troy sure is bossy."
"Shut up."

* "Mommy!"

I agree with you regarding GL's comment. Actually, GL seemed to pick up a lot of what's going on between the two of them - with his " 50 types of vision/you're blind" comment to Supes, etc., but did anyone get the feeling that this flirtation is all coming from WW? When she was debating whether to go with Clark or Bruce, Batboy didn't seem to care who she picked. And just prior to GL's "girlfriend" comment, she gave Batboy a subtle look that he seemed to ignore. Also, when she caught him after he fell and called him "tough guy" he was all like, "let me go!" Or is this typical behavior from an 8-y.o. boy who doesn't want anyone to know that he has a crush?

Same thing with the Starcrossed movie

This week's episode = good. Ends a bit abruptly, though. And the dialogue at the end gets a bit hokey, but still good.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

Amy Acker, best known as Fred on The WB's Angel, is providing a guest-voice for an upcoming episode of Justice League Unlimited, The Continuum has learned.

Acker is voicing The Huntress in an episode called "Double Date" that will air next season on Cartoon Network.

Acker, 28, joined the cast of Angel in 1999. She also appeared last year in the CBS movie Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt.

The episode also features Green Arrow, Black Canary and The Question. Kin Shriner is returning as Green Arrow, and Jeffrey Combs is doing the voice of The Questions.

There will be other guest voices for the episode that will be announced at a later date.

The Huntress made a brief apperance in "Initiation," the season opener of Justice League Unlimited, as one of the dozens of heroes in the Watchtower.

I enjoyed the episode, as I have every JLU episode so far, but overall I thought it was a bit too liberally biased, and that's saying a lot considering I'm a liberal.

I understand the message Zimmerman was trying to get across (it ain't too hard to figure out) but I think it would have said a lot more if the brothers Hawk and Dove had somehow come to an understanding, or even seen each other halfway, to defeat Ares' plan. A little give from BOTH sides would have been nice to see.

The ending was a bit too "nice & easy" for me. Both sides just walked away? I know this is a toon, but come on . . . I don't think that'd happen . . . and I know there'll be more "aftermath" that we won't see. I just feel kinda like it was too abrupt.

How could they both give though? Do you really think that Hawk would be able to just stand there in front of the machine/armour and do nothing?

I do have to say though, the big in the Invisible Jet when they're talking about who works in the Pentagon (was it the Pentagon?) made me chuckle.

I also would've like to see more of Hephestus & Ares with Diana . . . those sceens were way too short. This is one of the times I'd like to have an hour to flesh it out some more . . . especially to give more of a clue as to Diana's anger/rage "of late".

Don't know exactly how I would have done it, so I suppose I'm not in the best position to make this point. I suppose part of my point is that it could have been resolved without depowering the suit. I just wish the brothers had found some way to move past their disagreement and work TOGETHER to solve the problem. That would have had a less partisan and, therefore, a more universally acceptable message.

Seems their really focusing on the new members as much as possible this season, and I can't blame them really. The episodes with only JL-era members seem to be more balanced in this respect.

And I wish that Invisible Jet scene would have been longer.

I missed this week's, big surprise with my track record, but I did see last week's. It seems CN shows last week's episode at 11:30CST on Saturday mornings. Course, I found it around 11:40 so I tuned in right when the bar fight was over and the three of them were walking out of the bar.

Unfortunatly, I got nothing done tonight, that I originally planned on doing, like watching JLU and working. But I did get out and watch a movie with a couple friends, so all was not lost. But as I was driving to the one friend's apartment, I realized I was going to miss this week's episode, but we watched Monsters Inc, so that balanced it out.

I really liked this episode. It was funny and featured more JLers than usual.

What's especially funny is that you KNOW Paul Dini worked the entire episode around keeping Zatanna in it for the full 22 minutes, as he is unabashedly in love with the character.

I've always figured Etrigan, as a demon, is impervious to dark magic. It's the only explanation of why Morgan didn't get rid of him a long time ago.

I'm clueless as to why he changed to a baby, though. I missed the part of the episode where he actually showed up.

I didn't think it was as good as the other JLU episodes, but I still liked "This Little Piggy." Complaints:

We got to see more JLU characters, true, but I would like to see more of the original cast. One of the few complaints I have about this season is that we haven't seen MM and Flash in a while. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing new characters, but I don't need Batman and WW in EVERY episode minus one each.

I've never been too keen on the Batman/Wonder Woman romance either. Seems like another ploy to get people into Wonder Woman, and a far-fetched ploy at that. If all the other superheroes can have relationships with non-superheroes complete with interesting dynamic, why can't she?

That said, Batman singing was great, though it would have been even better if he had to sing for the JLU or important people of Gotham. I could have sworn Circe was gonna make Bats reveal his identity to the world, but I guess I was meant to expect that at first.

More Zatanna. I'm in love with her too.

Granted I was also a big believer in this matchup, but considering that this romance was never planned and just kinda happpened with that kiss the writers meant nothing by, I feel this isn't the case.

I got nothing to back up what I said, really. But, c'mon! There's a Batman/Wonder Woman romance in the JLA comic book, which fans generally rave about but the writers squash; then, in the same episode in which they get rid of half of the GL/Hawkgirl romance, they have Bruce and Diana kiss, a kiss that Bruce Wayne steps out of character to admit was nice.

Just kinda happened? Really ?
Posted By: Pariah Re: This Little Piggy - 2004-08-31 5:04 AM

Yeah. It was only after every fanboy and fangirl (fangirls moreso) made a HUGE thing about it in every forum within WB and DCs sights that they made this into something bigger.

You know, personally, I think it would be cool to have Ra's Al Ghul and his daughter make an appearance while continuing with the romance.

I'm sorry, but there's just something about a jealous Diana that tickles me pink. It's pretty much story ideas like that--That make me promote the relationship.
Posted By: Jason E. Perkins Re: This Little Piggy - 2004-08-31 3:00 PM
Y'know, I thought you meant the B/WW kiss during the JL series finale. The one in the Greek restaurant. I'd completely forgotten about that earlier peck. My apologies.

Maybe the comic book thing came from that one peck. It's very possible, and I wouldn't put it passed the comic book writers to take yet another thing from Dini's work.

I do like the idea of Talia making a return and putting a wrench in their romance, if just for one episode. Actually, I really like that idea. I mean, the romance is already happening, and that would make things interesting.

Mayhaps throw Catwoman in there too and make it another comedic episode. Mayhaps that's a dumb idea. The TAS guys could pull it off, though.

Dude, this week's ROCKED! I mean, it's no secret that I dislike both Supergirl and Ollie, but they made The Question exactly the way I hoped, and it turned out great.

I'm happy!

Which is kinda bad because it destroys my image.
Posted By: TK-069 Re: This Little Piggy - 2004-09-05 12:23 PM
Voiced by Jeffrey Combs no less!

Didn't that one scientist dude in Supergirl's "dream" look like Ron Jeremy? It was OK, the last four minutes were good. I wasn't expecting Dr. Hamilton to turn out like he did. But I don't read Supes so I don't know if he's (loosely) like that now or not.

The Teen Titans episode before that was fan-fucking-tastic. I love that style of animation and tonight it really worked on all cylinders; especially with the Robin/X fight near the finale.

The Question was perfect.

Ollie's voice was off. I'm not quite sure how do describe why. But, to me, it isn't even close to the voice I hear when I read a Green Arrow storie.
Posted By: Fused Re: This Little Piggy - 2004-09-06 8:37 AM
This has been one of my favorites in the season. It didnt even have Batman or Wonder Woman in it. The fact that Warner Bros. can have a media product using the DC license with this calibur is astonishing. The dialogue in this particular episode rivaled that of most comics that are available today. It's clever, smart, action packed and has DC heroes in it. I never really knew much about The Question but if in the comics he's anything like he is in this episode, I've become a Question fan for life.

JLU is my favorite show on air currently.

Maybe. I need to hear his voice agian to be sure.

It definately needs to be raspy, but not as dark as Batman's. Ollie is more optimistic. That's why he never shuts up.

Again, I liked this episode, but not as much as I have the JLU episodes before it.

The thing that turned me off was this explanation of Power Girl. Though I think she's redundant in the comic books (she really is a Supergirl clone) and this explanation made sense, I didn't care for it. I'll reserve final judgement until after I see how this pans out, but for now, I'm not feelin' it.

I've seen other reviews, however, that say this was not supposed to be Power Girl, and I haven't read what the writers have said.

During that very final scene, it would have been cool to see Superboy lying on another table next to "Power Girl" or in a corner in an incubator, though. I was hoping for it.

I did like how Robert Goodman inserted the Zeta robots. I liked that cartoon.

The Question was spot on. A great combo of the original and current versions.

It was fantastic!
Any reservations I had about not being the big seven have been put to rest!

The characterization of the heros has been spot on! Boo$ter has never been better and it was cool for Skeets to have shown the commercial for people not familar with him!

I love Boo$ter and Question even more than ever!

only one complaint....
I really wanted to hear Vibe speak....

Composite Superman

New episode on now. Looks good so far.
Posted By: Glacier16 Re: The Return - 2004-09-19 3:53 AM
Yeah it does. Blink-and-you-miss cameos, GL Corp, Kyle Rayner, Orion and other heros and all those javelins cutting loose, and Luthor. Even in the end, nice little suprise.
Posted By: Jason E. Perkins Re: The Return - 2004-09-19 3:57 AM
Holy shit! I thought it would be a long time before another episode compared to last weeks, but DAMN!

And the last shot will leave someone out there very happy, that's for sure.
Posted By: Disco Steve Re: The Return - 2004-09-19 4:03 AM
Holy fuck. That was amazing. Every fucking second of it.

Now that they've got non-Dwayne McDuffie comic writers working on it, the show has been the best it's ever been this season.

I feel bad for Red Tornado, though.
Posted By: Jason E. Perkins Re: The Return - 2004-09-19 4:14 AM
"Amazo" was the best villain they've had so far, hands down. He had some great lines, and his voice and manner (or lack of manner) was chilling. Not to mention the sheer power he demonstrated.

I wasn't too fond of the voices of Atom or Steel. Atom's seemed like they were trying too hard to make him sound nerdy and Steel's seemed like they were trying too hard to make him sound black, but in light of everything else, those were minor issues.

I haven't seen the creators pull this much out since Starcrossed. So many heroes doing so much cool shit. The corps, Fate, and so many members of the JLU.

Amazing!

This was a great one, and yes, blink and you missed so many cameos. It was great seeing all the heroes.

So my question is, what was with that last shot? I loved seeing her period, but didn't get what happened and why. Obviously I still haven't seen Star Crossed so if it was done in that, well then I really need to get a hold of a copy of that now.

Some questions I had looking at these pictures:

Why does Superman need a suit to breathe/move in space?

Why does Green Lantern have that gay-ass goatee?

Isn't S.T.R.I.P.E. a robot with a guy inside? Wouldn't he still need oxygen to survive? If so, why is he in space?

Who the hell is this guy supposed to be?!

Even in the episodes for WB episodes of Superman, he always had some kind of space suit or breather when he went into space. So, as for "why"...got me, other than they're sticking with the animated continuity.

Hey !
Posted By: Batwoman Re: Some questions... - 2004-09-22 8:23 AM
That's right! I couldn't figure out who he was, obviously I forgot all about him.

As for the whole Superman space suit/oxygen thing, does he really need oxygen in space? I could have sworn I remembered the time when he'd fly around space like captain Atom or someone. I know in Kingdon Come, he and Diana are sitting on the side of the satelite chatting and he's got an oxygen mask on, yet she's not wearing one. That's the only other time I can remember seeing him wear one in comics. The other being when he came back to Earth.

Other than that, I always remembered him being able to breath in space. *shrugs*
Posted By: TK-069 Re: Some questions... - 2004-09-22 8:30 AM
People, since CRISIS Superman's always needed oxygen in space! DC scaled down his powers and made him more oxygen-dependent in space. I read somewhere he can hold his breath for 45 minutes to an hour before he needs his next breath. After his resurrection however, they made him more powerful and made his oxygen dependency less stringent. As for the animated continuity, it seems they made him weaker.
Posted By: Batwoman Re: Some questions... - 2004-09-22 7:08 PM
That''s what I was saying, I remember him not needing the oxygen when in space, and then seeing him be dependant on it. But, obviously, I don't read enough Superman books/stories to know what the deal is with it.

As has been said, Post-Crisis, Superman requires O2, much like most carbon-based lifeforms. Personally, I love that limitation. One of my major nitpicks is seeing Supes hanging out in space, with no oxygen supply, and breathing normally. I mean, if we are going to attempt some minute adult-like drama with this character, let's at least use the science we have at hand in the real world to help define him.

I don't know. Maybe they're taking cues from Avery Brooks, the toughest black man ever to step foot in space. Or, maybe he just looks better that way. And he does. And, just because you can't grow one, doesn't make goatees "gay", Chewness.....

Quote:

Chewy Walrus said:

Didn't you just answer your own question? He's a guy inside a robotic suit. If he's up there, then, I think it's assumable that it has a portable oxygen supply. And, if I were inside a metal container like that, I'd want one no matter what I was doing, or where I was....

That is Steve Ditko's "Prince Gavyn", called Starman. He was the Starman of the 70's. He would later go on to carry a Moses-like staff in which to conduct his abilities through. He was last seen in Crisis on Infinite Earth's #10, where he sacrificed himself to save his home planet. In James Robinson's STARMAN series, another Starman (the one from the 80's....I can't remember his name) has been impersonating him recently.

Grimm made the comment the other night, while watching this episode, that the creators of this cartoon must really be Steve Ditko fans, as they are using alot of his character (ala' Hawk & Dove, the Question, Starman, etc.)

I tired to watch the first one (at least first for me when I put it on at 7:30) and couldn't stand the animation. I don't like that look at all and it in turn, turned me off of watching it.
Posted By: McGurk "For the Man who has Everything" - 2004-10-03 4:24 AM
Tonight's episode I knew by the title was a remake of Superman Annual #11 (1985). It's always nice for them to resurrect classics, plus they left out Robin/Jason Todd, which of course is since he doesn't exist in the animated universe.

I've only seen this and the one a few weeks back about that flying robot guy (forgot his name) trying to find and kill Luthor. Not to be a continuity cop, but they forgot that Supergirl is from Argo. Her world died because Krypton's explosion knocked them out of their orbit, but the Kryptonite radiation that's deadly to Superman doesn't affect her (Superman Adventures #31). So why is she now weakened by Kryptonite? Was she right about Luthor thinking of everything and so created a special Argo City weakening Kryptonite? Or is this yet another one of those new Supergirls that come about every eight months or so?

Great, now I want a twin. Derp!

The last two episodes of the Superman series had Supes being brainwashed by Darkseid and leading an invasion of Earth. Though Superman regained his own memories back and kicked the Armies of Apokalypse's ass, the world in general didn't know if they could trust him again. One of the most scared was Dr. Hamilton who Supes snaped at in a fit of frustration when Supergirl had been badly hurt and S.T.A.R. Labs didn't know if they could help her.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED'S "DARK HEART"

"Dark Heart," a new episode of Justice League Unlimited, debuts on Cartoon Network on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

The episode was written by Warren Ellis and directed by Dan Riba. Guest actors include John C. McGinley as The Atom and J.K. Simmons as Gen. Eiling.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"When the entire League is helpless to stop an alien invasion, the world's only hope is The Atom, a microscopic super-hero."

Finally, tonight! Been waiting for this for months. It was originally supposed to air in October.

Ellis: "You've got the world's greatest super heroes fighting bank robbers. . .You need more shit blowing up!"

Good episode. I like that they fully understand that you can show this massive group of superheroes without having to worry about them on an individual basis. Just have them in the background fucking shit up. Classic.
Posted By: rex Re: Dec. 11 -- Dark Heart - 2004-12-12 8:12 AM
It was a good episode. Like thedoctor said superheroes fucking shit up.

Anyone else think its funny that in Justice League Unlimited, the Atom just saved the world, but in Identity Crisis, he might be the killer?

Though Ellis hates spandex superheroes, he writes them really well.

Here's a rundown of new episode for February:

Saturday, Feb. 5: "The Cat and The Canary" - Black Canary convinces Green Arrow to help save her mentor, the Wildcat, from his involvement in an underground, super-powered fight club.

Saturday, Feb. 12: "The Ties that Bind" - The world's greatest escape artist needs help from The Flash in order to break a deadly enemy out of an inescapable prison on an alien planet.

Saturday, Feb. 19: "The Doomsday Sanction" - While Superman battles Doomsday in the heart of a Volcano, Batman discovers an elaborate conspiracy to destroy the Justice League.

I'm sorry. It's Jonah Hex. My bad.

Jonah Hex was in the original Batman series. In an episode with Ra's Al Ghul, Ra's ended up explaing to Batman an event from around the 1890s. Ra's had built a huge blimp that was designed to rain fuel bombs up and down the east coast. Unfortunately for him, Jonah Hex, who was a bounty hunter at the time, had thwarted his plans.

It's a damn good watch.

Yeah. Unfortunately. Batman Beyond sucked. And I really hate those time travel methods where they have a guy go into the future and see himself when he wouldn't even be there to make a future for himself. I hope they use the multiple timeline probability theory to make things easier to swallow.
Posted By: McGurk Re: Jonah Zax!? - 2005-01-30 2:04 AM
Perhaps. Or maybe it's to show that they eventually make it back home. It's just a matter of how and when.

I recognize future/grown-up Static, whom they once showed on Static Shock. What about Jon Stewart's son? Is there a reason he has wings? This could be interesting, kinda like The Kingdom: Nightstar (possible daughter of Nightwing and Starfire).

Posted By: Jeremy Re: Jonah Zax!? - 2005-01-30 11:10 AM
Because JLU is using millions of different DC characters in each episode. Logic kind of follows that Tobias and Jonah Hex may have originated from some comic or another.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

Before he plays Mr. Fantastic, Ioan Gruffudd is playing Mister Miracle, voicing the character in an episode of Justice League Unlimited that premieres this Saturday.

Gruffudd, who is starring in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, is highlighted in "The Ties That Bind."

"It was an enjoyable experience," he said of his JLU role after a Fantastic Four press conference in October.

"All the ladies took notice of him when he came in to do the voice," Justice League Unlimited producer Bruce Timm said. "He turned quite a few heads."

Here's how Cartoon Network described the episode:

"The world¹s greatest escape artist needs help from the Flash in order to break a deadly enemy out of an inescapable prison on an alien planet."

Timm has said that Justice League Unlimited might be his last foray in the DC Animated Universe. "So this is my chance to do a Mister Miracle story ... it's going to be really fun," Timm said.

Michael Rosenbaum reprises his role as The Flash.

still good though, still good!

A couple of the episodes I enjoyed very much were "Kids game"

"A fearful Symmetry"

"The greatest story never told"

"The ties that bind"

and

"The Doomsday Sanction"

This show is already giving the the two first seasons a run for their money!

Jerry O'Connell to Voice Captain Marvel on JLU

Captain Marvel is scheduled to make an appearance in the Cartoon Network "Justice League Unlimited" animated series, and Jerry O'Connell will provide his voice.
The 31 year old star of TV and Film is best known for his roles in TV shows like "Crossing Jordan", "Sliders" and "My Secret Identity".

Joining O'Connell is 14 year old Shane Haboucha, who will be voicing young Bill Batson (Captain Marvel's alterego). Haboucha, 14, did the voice of the young Superman in the "Kids' Stuff" episode in Justice League Unlimited and plays Charlie Hayes in The WB's Everwood.

The episode written by J.M. DeMatteis and Dwayne McDuffie, titled "The Clash", will see Superman and Captain Marvel go toe to toe.

Anyone know whats going on with this show?
The Cartoon Network is saying that The Batman will be on saturday nights starting next week.
Does this mean its moving its time or is it not going to be on for awile?
I thought we'd seen all of the new ones for this season.

Yep, the continuum would have mentioned a new episode by now. Them or the Superman homepage.

Nothing worse than be on time for a favourite show, and then it's a rerun

Is this coming out of DVD anytime soon?
What about the Justice League that came before this one? I still haven't seen any of those.

There is one collection of JLU episodes out with Initiation and a couple others. The Justice League movies are out on DVD, some episodes are too, I don't know which ones. I have all the JLU episodes (except Hawk and Dove) downloaded and burned on CDs.

I really don't want to buy some of them on DVD just to buy the season sets later.

Satire = Funny cuz' it's true.

In which case I feel justified following Tyler's philosophy to the day I die.

In any event, that's not Fight Club inspired. I've been moving around a lot more recently, so it's best if I keep things nice and small yet resourceful. Even if I didn't get the idea to the max from Fight Club, I still would have incorporated it in my lifestyle.

You're still collecting stuff on your hard drive..so you are just hiding it from sight.comics on the hard drive, music, movies..they are still things you love that are material...material possessions are still material possesions whether they are on a hard drive or sitting on a shelf..
Posted By: the G-man Re: Season 4 Episodes Start This Saturday - 2005-04-04 1:21 AM
But keeping it on a hard drive saves space and packaging. Both of which are good for the planet.

And being good for the planet is something that Green Arrow would approve of. Meaning this thread is now official back on topic.

Ever heard of something called the "bare minimum"?

I'm making a hopeless situation better by downgrading on tangible material. That simple.

Saturday, May 21 -- "Task Force X"
Five incarcerated super villains are offered suspended sentences if they can survive an impossible mission -- to steal a deadly weapon from the Justice League¹s satellite headquarters.

Saturday, May 28 -- "The Balance"
Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl must put aside their feud and go to the depths of Tartarus where the evil sorcerer Felix Faust establishes dominion over Hades.

Saturday, June 4 -- "Double Date"
Green Arrow and Black Canary race to stop The Question and Huntress from killing organized crime lord Tobias Whale.

I hate the idea of Huntress and Question having a relationship seeing as how Huntress is a dim-witted jerk-stupid character. And because Rucka came up with the idea, I blame him.

New news at last from Comics Continuum.

Susan Sullivan reprises her voice role of Hippolyta in the upcoming "The Balance" episode of Justice League Unlimited.

Other guest voices in the episode include Robert England as Felix Faust, Bob Joles as Hades, Juliet Landau as Tala, Jason Bateman as Hermes, Wayne Knight as Abnegazar and Michael T. Weiss as Jason Blood.

"The Balance" has a story by Stan Berkowitz and a teleplay by Dwayne McDuffie. The episode was directed by Dan Riba.

I taped tonight's JLU, it was Great!! It starred The Huntress, The Question, Black Canary, Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter. It was the one where Huntress wanted to kill Mandragora, the guy who killed her parents.

I almost missed it because I was watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban......

Hope you guys caught tonight's show, too.

It only just premiered in the UK yesterday, and i didnt think much of the opening episode. The guitar rock track and the inclusion of Supergirl [she appears more times in the opening than all the others together, does she really get used THAT much?] soured it a little for me. Still good, but nowhere near as good as the 2/3 part episodes, especially "Starcrossed"

Does it get better than this, or am I just in mourning for the previous 2 seasons?

I wish they'd make a World's Finest episode, and not just them starring in the episodes but really showing how Superman and Batman walk through the watchtower.

It would seem out of character for the DCU Batman but not the JLU version. The JLU version seems a lot more team compatible.

And I doubt they'll keep the watchtower after this. Superman's embassy idea seems much more likely.

Has anyone noticed how everyone's powers are increasing?

Flash just got an upgrade due to the writers revealing that he can go so fast that he'd reach the speed force.

Diana's lasso can now force the truth and she can do that twirl schick thing.

Since the original series when Superman had to struggle to lift a bus he's been able to lift 757s without even breathing hard.

Those particular three are starting to resemble their comicbook counterparts in power aspects. J'onn, Stewart, and Hawk Girl have always been as powerful as their comic-based origins. So the series is becoming a bit more (classic)DCU all around.

If this pattern continues, Batman's prolly gonna get darker in the future, in which case, I couldn't be happier.

Being dark isn't a power, silly.

I mean, it means you can jump higher and run faster, but that's about it.

Seriously, though, if Batman Beyond is any indication (and it probably is since they're revisiting that universe in the next episode) Bruce Wayne/Batman will grow darker with time. Whether or not that will be seen in the JLU, however, remains to be seen.
Posted By: Pariah Re: Justice League Unlimited - 2005-06-22 2:49 PM
In Batman's case it is. It's all about image; being fearful is his idea of power--And it works.

It'd be nice to seem him a bit stricter. More like a person who's very look says, "Don't fuck with me or you're knee-caps are gonna regret it!" rather than his current more neutral image.

I'm speaking strictly in the case of JLU.

That's the nature of superheroes I guess. Remember Superman started out not being able to fly, Flash had to swim at super speed, WW glided on air currents.
Then the writers up the powers till Superman moves the world out of the path of asteroids (though why he wouldn't just move the asteroid is beyond me).
Then, Crisis and everyone's depowered to humanize them. Flash can barely create a sonic boom, Superman struggles to lift planes.
Then at some point the writers up the power levels until Flash runs through time at the slightest whim and Superman uses WW's lasso to pull the moon.

Its a weird cycle.

Technically Batman Beyond is part of JLU continuity because he was in last season's finale.

That's what I meant. Since the JLU will be revisiting the Batman Beyond universe again, it seems reasonable to believe Batman is heading for darker pastures.

First of all: The exhibition within the JLU is what matters. Not a seperate series.

Second: That's not necessarily true. It could be the future, but from the testament of Batman Beyond's Bruce in "The Once and Future Thing" He didn't actually remember going to the future in one of his missions with the Justice League, but now Batman is in the absolute know that he did go to the future. There's no telling that Batman Beyond will always be in continuity with Batman Beyond.

The Once and Future Thing future was not the same as the Batman Beyond future. It was an alternate possibility.

Doc : Marty, when Biff got that sports almanac, he used it and somehow created an alternate future...this one that we are in now!

Marty McFly : How do we fix things?

Doc : We take the DeLorean and go back to 1955 , and stop Biff from getting that book.

Marty McFly : Not 1955 , AGAIN.........

I can't find the link right now. I know it was on TVtome, but anyway its obviously the Batman Beyond universe.
Same producers, they showed that same future on Static Shock. Its the same Bruce/Terry set up as Batman Beyond, with the same villains, and references to Batman Beyond. Why would you think it wasn't Batman Beyond?

No. He was correct in his wording.

Because Batman went to that future and saw what that future's Bruce didn't whilst he was still Batman, it means it's not going to happen again in perfect sync. So, it is indeed alternative.

From TV Tome:

People and events shown here contradict what has been shown for various other WB series, but in fact are internally consistent (sort of) since it's established that what we're seeing here is an alternate timeline, rendering other time travel and crossover stories providing a glimpse of the "real future" irrelevant to what we see here.

There are several inconsistencies that separate the future seen in this episode from the one seen in Batman Beyond, not the least of which is the fact that WarHawk is still alive AFTER Terry McGinnis, Batman joins the League. He died in the episode The Call: Part 1, in the third season.

Yeah, superheroes come back, but there are other inconsistencies that are a little harder to crack. I can really look for them if you want, but you'll have to give me time.

Which isn't correct. If you're using a static time theory (things can not be changed and all of time is already written) then there is no room for anything alternate. That is why every future is a possibility (100% if you're using the static theory) but not necessarily alternate (depending on who is doing the theorizing).

All variables (possibilities) are alternative until they're mainsteam--Which doesn't necessarily mean that it will eventually be mainstream mind you. A variable, a "could have happened" situation, is a possibility. But the fact that it's one of many variables, means that it's alternate reality just like all the others until one is your definite future and present, then, later on, your past. Because the Bruce Wayne of that future didn't actually go on the mission with Diana and John, but Batman of the past did, that makes it an alternate reality because that future was never actually legitimately reached, and after the "Once and Future Thing" incident, it never will be.

True, this does not necessarily mean that the Batman Beyond future in general will never be reached by the JLU continuum--However, the fact that the JLU laws of time travel are the way they are means that no time travel episode to the future will mean that there's no certainty that the portrayed future will be reached either. (I can't word that any better. Sorry.)

You're running under the presumption that all time is variable. Again, that is simply one theory and not definitive. If time is considered static (another more viable theory) then there is never an alternate future, only the static, or "mainstream," one.

Or, to put it another way, the idea that the future is broken up into alternate possibilities is not definitive, only speculative.
Posted By: Pariah Re: Justice League Unlimited - 2005-06-23 3:36 PM
That's totally inaccurate. The fact that future itself, in all its possible forms, is speculative makes it one giant composition of variables. And the very definition of "variable" means multiple parallel scenarios--And in the end, that would mean "alternate".

Yes. We have one set destiny. But the fact of the matter is: We do not know it. We can only see things from our own POV and not an omnicient all knowing one, in which case, we have to measure odds and theory.

Unless there was some sort of dictator of time, tangible or not, in the JLU that spouts out prophesies with perfect accuracy, which, in and of themselves, lead people down that specified path, I don't see your arguments as having a lot of credence in the case of the JLU continuum. Even then, your context would have to remain in the vicinity of that dictator's governing hand.

Warhawk didn't die. In the call part 2 they revealed he set his armor on autopilot when it exploded because he suspected something odd was going on.

I'll admit the events of the episode were undone by the end but that was still the Batman Beyond future they went to.

K. I'll believe that.

Still, before they made all these huge changes to their site, the people at TV Tome had a list of inconsistencies that made the episode a non-Batman Beyond episode in their goofs section. That episode lacks a goofs section now (cry). I'll try to find the list elsewhere.
I really hate the new TVtome site.

Wednesday, you're contradicting yourself. Proposed future, by definition, is one giant schmeal of possibilities--Especially since we're viewing time travel from the viewpoint of the heroes and not an omnipotent one. The Once and Future Thing didn't prove set destinations since Batman's future changed after he went to the future.

No, it isn't.

I'm pretty much done here, though. Obviously, you're sticking with the view that there can't be one static future. Of course, you couldn't possibly know this, but I have no problem letting you go on thinking that you do.
Posted By: Pariah Re: Justice League Unlimited - 2005-06-24 2:34 AM
Of course there's one static future, but the fact of the matter is that we'll never know what it is and the possibilities for what that static future will be are endless, meaning there's not such thing as a static timeline as you suggest. It's ever-changing until we finalize its shape.

I'll say it one more time: There's nothing to suggest that simply because Batman saw the future of Batman Beyond that-that will be his inevitable destination.

A future that can never be confirmed, by Timm and McDuffie's own words, thus it's an elseworlds until further notice.

The series is never gonna get that far, and by the creators' own words, the continuum is subject to change. That's the excuse they used when making Batman Beyond in the first place.

I'm not sure where you get this "Batman is hero of fate" stuff but simply because Flash's and Superman's fates were to end up where the did, that doesn't mean its the fate of every descendent of Batman to become another Batman. That's what I was complaining about when said that hereditary hero additive shit was gay.

She didn't say it was that simple. She said herself that Terry didn't inherit Bruce's mind, just his heart, and his stubborness when it came to fighting for what was right. And its the same idea as Bruce inheriting his doctor father's compassion for helping people.

She was saying that it was fate that lead Terry to Bruce.

Again.
Superman landed with the Kents who instilled in him the values to become Superman. They just happened to be driving along that particular road when his ship landed.

Barry Allen/Wally West just happened to be standing by the window and a shelf of chemicals when lightning struck (the same lab twice).

Bruce Wayne just happened to be at the circus on the night Dick Grayson's parents were killed.

All examples of fate, its a big part of the superhero genre.
Posted By: Pariah Re: Justice League Unlimited: Epilouge - 2005-06-27 11:45 AM
In the context you're trying to use, Supes, Bats, and Flash were prophesied to be effected by those occurences--But they weren't. They simply happened the way they did and it became their fate. Amanda Waller was trying to say it was Terry's fate to become Batman before he actually became Batman--And that's BS.

She was saying that was her belief that fate stepped in.

It was that same chance that created the other heroes to lead Terry to Bruce Wayne's house the night before his father's murder.
I think the idea that Terry's DNA was manipulated before he was even born to make him more like Bruce only takes away from the character. It adds nothing.

If you want to think of it as such, he was already a "hero of fate." It doesn't help to know that half of him is Bruce Wayne, especially when the character was built on the idea that he was supposed to be so different from his predecessor.

And Pariah is right, it wasn't much of a JLU episode. I've seen more JLU involvement in thirty minutes of Batman Beyond. It would have fit better as the final BB episode.

I'm complaining but the storytelling is great, the best I've seen on JLU really. It's just that the story itself needed work.

Yeah, and the fact that they used such a deus ex machina plot device is what makes the story behind this episode a piece of shit.
Pariah, now you're arguing semantics.

it was a good episode. Obviously the producers used it to wrap up Batman Beyond (which was cancelled suddenly), but as a fan of Batman Beyond I don't mind.

No. It's not semantics. It's the same subject I've been arguing the whole time. They're implying that Batman is a hereditary trait--And that's idiotic. End of story.

As for the ending of BB: You're prolly right, but that doesn't make things better. Just worse. Although, it does reaffirm my point that it's an elseworlds.

And Pariah is right, it wasn't much of a JLU episode.

but the storytelling is great, the best I've seen on JLU really.

To me, the story is different from the storytelling.

The story is the particulars and course that lead from point A to point B. The storytelling is the way in which they are presented. I wasn't too fond of the particulars for reasons listed above, but I felt the way the episode was presented was wonderful.

You fuckwads! Where's the fucking spoiler notification!

God, I hate you all.
The last several pages of this thread have been filled with spoilers for those depending on American TV.

Where have you been?
Posted By: Bianca Re: Justice League Unlimited - 2005-06-27 6:19 PM
You used a spoiler alert on page 22 but then there's nothing after that.

The "spoilery" stuff starts again around the end of page 24, with no warning. That was just after last week's U.S. aired episode (Hunter's Moon).

I'm sorry I'm not as savvy as the rest of you downloading fiends, but that doesn't give you the right to include spoilers for a show that's still airing (first run) for a lot of people.

Saying, "where have you been?" doesn't make spoiling future episodes any better. Very uncool on all your parts for loading this thread with spoilers without warning people, especially towards the end of the current U.S. season.

A little courtsey isn't too much to ask for, or so I thought.

it was a good episode. Obviously the producers used it to wrap up Batman Beyond (which was cancelled suddenly), but as a fan of Batman Beyond I don't mind.
The JLU storyline was wrapped up last week.

You are arguing semantics. You're conceding that fate plays a role in heroes becoming heroes, but that the son of Batman having the traits of his father is stupid.

Amanda Waller said Terry had his father's stubborness and compassion, those are character traits that can be inherited. She made a point to mention he didn't have the genius that Bruce did.

Fate stepped in by leading Terry to Bruce, so of course he'd become Batman that way. The way you're arguing it makes it seem like you think Terry was destined to be Batman had he never met Bruce or even heard of Batman.
That would've been stupid.

First of all: She wasn't just saying that it was his stubborness and compassion. She was implying that there was some sort of spirit of Batman in him.

Second of all: Stubborness and compassion aren't genetically inherited. They're passed on from influence. Bruce didn't influence Terry all of his life.

Now you're just trying to over-explain things and confuce the issue.

The fact that you think fate stepped in and made Terry meet Bruce means that you think Terry was pre-destined. Not me.

One thing can be said about this show, any DC show actually. It's WAY better than anything Marvel has come up with yet!

Though I liked X-men Evolution very much it's still no where near as well-thought-out and produced as this show!
Posted By: Pariah Re: Justice League Unlimited: Epilouge - 2005-06-29 4:09 AM
The original X-Men cartoon rocked.
by original do you mean the 1990's version? or the 1970's version where Wolverine is Australian?

Uh....Well.....

1990s I guess.
ok.
Yeah, that show was good until the last season when it got all lame.
But JLU and all the Timm/Dini shows are still better.

The newly aired shows are good, but I hope this isn't going to make newcomers feel like they missed something when they first tune in. We get enough of that in mainstream comics.

Re: Divided We Fall -- spoilers

Okay, so I've watched it three times now (a la video tape) and each time I still cringe when Wally disappears into thin air after beat the shit out of Brainiac/Lex.

But, it was great . . . and I still miss it when Diana disappears to go after the Javalin to throw it at the building. Man, that was awesome!

But yea, I have to say, that the best scene was Wally zipping around the globe like it was nothing was fantastic!

So, with the end of the Watchtower, does this mean we get the Hall of Justice next season? That would only seem fitting if we do get the Legion of Doom (that's the rumor anyway) . . . wouldn't you say?

And, next week's Epilogue should be interesting. I actually liked Batman Beyond (with a few exceptions of course) and it'll be interesting to see how things are in that future now with all the other changes that have occured since the last time we got a glimpse into the future with Bruce.

But . . . at the end, when Superman is addressing the crowd again and Bats says to Diana, "You guys can handle this. I have business back in Gotham." He pauses to look at her and says, "You have my number." The look on her face and then the look on his . . . was it just me?

**Spoilers....uh....Just in Case...**

Okay, so, I don't normally watch this show. For one reason, it comes on at such odd hours, I can never seem to catch it on time. And, another, it always wants to showcase fucking Supergirl in the intro, which I think pretty much kills the show for me.

HOWEVER....and I mean however....

I accidentally caught the Superman VS Capt Marvel episode. Fantastic! Lots of fun and explosions and hitting things. All I wanted.

And, I caught one last night where the Big 7 unite to stop Braniac/Luthor.

Holy...freaking....shit.

I only caught the last ten minutes where they were battling him, so, I have no idea what was going on. But, damn what a fight! And finally....FINALLY they gave Flash his due. I got so pumped the moment he started coming from all sides, faster, and faster, and faster! And then, when he just started hammering into him at superspeed! FUCKING AWESOME!!

LOVED what I saw of this episode. Really.

Can anyone tell me when they are releasing this show by the season on DVD? I mean, what's the freaking hold up? Every other show kicks them out by the season within moments of debuting. I want to OWN this series, so I can watch all the ones I missed.

Also, what's with the "dismantling" the Watchtower and all? Are they about to try and conform to the Alex Ross gayfest-Superfriends book he's putting out? Or, is it the other way around?

Thanks for any input...

Good. This animated universe has sucked for too long. All it's been is one big fanboy wankfest. Sometimes, on that rare occasion, it has been entertaining. But, mostly it's been crappier than the most recent Gotham Knights run.

Unfortunately, the only good animated superhero show has been the first three boxed sets of Batman: The Animated Series. When they went cheap with the animation, heavy on the sexual innuendo, and sold out to super villains for every plot, the animated universe died.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. Feel free to ignore it.

Damn, it seems that this is really the final season from the way it ended

spoilers

I presumed the new episodes in the UK stopped because of the School Holidays and the goddamned Pokemon marathon all week [ ], so I missed most of the Darkseid invasion episode

The last ep. ended with Luthor and the Legion of Doom members who stayed loyal to him [Grodd free'd, mutiny insighted] turning up at the JL Embassy and Luthor telling The League "We have problem."

Caught the last few minutes of the proceeding episode. Seems Darkseid was really pummelling Superman with the power of Brainiac running through him. Then Luthor walked up to Darkseid, spat out some words. Darkseid took it as some kind of challenge and spat out his usual "Bah", "Infidel", "Whelp", stuff. Then Luthor revealed he had the anti-life equation, shook hands with Darkseid with it in his hand, some kind of sand-storm hit, and they were both gone, with Superman presuming they are both dead for some strange reason [doesn't he ever learn?]

Then comes what seems to be a definitive ending, even though Timm has said he's done every season as if it were his last. The League plan to jail the Legion of Doom members who helped them out during the fight [all the ones who followed Grodd should be dead in space], to which Atomic Skull complains and says they helped save the Planet. Batman reconsiders and says

Batman: "Your right........5 minute head-start"
Atomic Skull: "What?...."
Wonder Woman: "4 minutes 50 seconds"

Superman says something about Bruce getting soft in his old age, then some cheesey music is played as most of the JLU members are seen running down the embassy steps 2 at a time, followed by Supes, Bats and WW together

Ending credits are random pics of different JLU members, not a preview of the next episode

Oh, and Giganta, the former Gorilla given a make-over by Grodd, kisses Flash

I liked the "twist" with the Deadman ep vis a vis Grodd's master plan.

SPOILER

Grodd enlists Luthor and the rest of Society for that they think is a mind control device. Turns out, however, Grodds plan is to turn every one on earth ...into a gorilla.

Which sounds like a stupid plan, and I was thinking "that's the plan? man, what were the writers thinking?"

But in the next scene, the fact the plan was so stupid is exactly the impetutus for Luthor to betray Grodd and take over the society.

Good move on the part of the writers.
Posted By: Flameswordsman Re: Justice League Unlimited - 2006-02-26 12:19 AM
I believe Grodd did the same in the comics. The annual where the JLA are all Gorilla's
i just hope Luthor isn't being used to bring back Darkseid. Then I imagine the only way to stop him would be for Luthor to enter the source wall and obtain the Anti-Life Equation, after that he and Darkseid could vanish in a blinding light.

Speaking of cheese, I watched To Another Shore today, it was a fun one. But it had Diana (in civies) twisting around to change to her WW costume like the old Linda Carter show. Totally cheesy, but I loved it.

I have enjoyed JLA-JLU, and before that, Batman :TAS.
For me, Kevin Conroy WAS the voice of Batman..all others before him voiced the Dark Knight like he was a waiter in a restaurant..too polite and friendly sounding. His Batman was very masculine, determined, and sometimes angry, yet he had his kind moments, too.

I will miss JLA-JLU..I will buy the dvd's.

I will miss Kevin Conroy...he IS the one true voice of Batman!

This is truly the end of an era.

I tend to agree here on this one..but, I will think fondly on episodes like the one where the JLA first met, the one where Wonder Woman got turned into a pig and Batman had to sing to get her back to normal, the one where GL, Hawkgirl, Jonnz, and Flash went to a parallel Earth and met a group that was a knock off of the JSA, then there was the Metamorpho one, and the ep. where all men caught a disease, the Christmas show, and many other great episodes....

That is how I will remember the League.

Okay, I'm sure I'm gonna sound stupid, but isn't it "Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light"?

Roxanne
You dont have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You dont have to sell your body to the night

Roxanne
You dont have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You dont care if its wrong or if its right

Roxanne
You dont have to put on the red light

I loved you since I knew you
I wouldnt talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I wont share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I wont tell you again
Its a bad way

Roxanne
You dont have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You dont have to put on the red light

most of this season sucked. the only good episodes were the two flash-centric ones.
Even the fight with darkseid in the finale seemed pointless after the one in the Superman TAS finale.

That is how I will remember the League.

i said this season. I enjoyed the other seasons much more. overall, justice league was a great show.

Was just agreeing with you. Does anyone else have the 10" Justice League figures? I have 'em of the seven main characters..they look pretty good, too.

I have the Wonder Woman one. It kinda made me sad that I paid $150 for the maquette and then that came along for $10...heh.
